Throughout her political career, Roosevelt set informal precedents when she was the First Lady of the United States (1933-1945) and a Diplomat for the United Nations. She once said, “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness,” and having said that during the Great Depression, demonstrates her exemplary traits as a leader. I strive to possess the same qualities Eleanor Roosevelt has exhibited. I admire her determination, willingness to help others, optimism and commitment. Providing optimistic views in situations is important to me because it gives people a reason to rise above difficult times.
