What we do at a young age at a specific environment is what shapes our identity. Characters characteristics can have overall change which can be caused by the environment which affect social life, mood, and emotion and mental health which changes their identity One Kid went through all of this and his name was Jason Kim. Jason Kim show an example of this when he sees all of the kids playing around and him sitting alone. The quote that i have to support is when he says pg2“Outside on the playground, sitting alone at recess”, Therefore this is affecting his social health. Another example is when Jason is going through motions because he is asian and learning to hate his culture, to support this Jason says pg2“I learned to hate being asian”. But then he graduated and moved to another city which changed his environment , then from there he learned it wasn't bad to be different than other people. The quote i pulled out to support this explanation from the story was when he said pg2“being different was an asset, not a risk” and pg2“I didn't have to be ashamed about being an Asian immigrant”. Overall this tell us that he learned a lesson and that you should accept who you are. …show more content…
Lucy raised by wolves. One of the reason being is when Claudette merages changes because of her environment. First Claudette changes from this loyal girl to this selfish and self conscious girl. One quote that supports is when she says “we couldn't return not if we wanted to break mom's heart”, therefore this supports that she cared about people and not herself. But throughout the story the environment she stayed in changed here to this self conscious girl and got her sister in trouble for her not get in trouble,to support this claim is when Claudette says “I didn't want your help”, and also says “Mirabella has ruined it”. Therefore all i could say is some changes of environment can be for the good or for the

In life adversity plays a role in shaping an individual's identity. Overcoming adversity in life can give you new found strength and courage. Helping you become a better person later in life. In the photo Through The Door the child opening the door symbolizes trying to overcome something. The child can be trying to overcome adversity. The adversity seen in the photo is from the depressed theme. This theme of depression comes from how sad the child looks, and how disastrous his surroundings are. The fence around the child is poorly put together, and made of sticks. While the door the child is using is barely holding together, and the door is scraped together with spare pieces of wood. Giving the door a dangerous feel. With the poorly made stick fence, and the door put together with the sad child it gives off get a depressed theme.
This stage of my adolescent life was very memorable. This was the time when my life was becoming more complicated as I struggled to find my own racial identity, and constantly questioning myself, “Who am I?” “Where do I belong?” while facing the pressure of “fitting in” as a biracial teen in prejudicial Asian society.
Knowing that it would be four years of relentless pestering, I knew that someday I would surpass my tormentors; I would keep under cover of my books and study hard to make my brother proud one day. It would be worth the pain to someday walk into a restaurant and see my former bully come to my table wearing an apron and a nametag and wait on me, complete with a lousy tip. To walk the halls of the hospital I work in, sporting a stethoscope and white coat while walking across the floor that was just cleaned not to long ago by the janitor, who was the same boy that tried to pick a fight with me back in middle school. To me, an Asian in an American school is picking up where my brother left off. It’s a promise to my family that I wouldn’t disappoint nor dishonor our name. It’s a battle that’s gains victory without being fought.
Lucy and her father have a conflict because he had an affair and has a child that he hid from their family for seven years. Lucy ends up losing all her relationships becuase of her overbearing emotions. As the plot continues, Lucy decides to rebel and leave her parents and run off to Maine to live with her grandfather. No one knows where she is for two days causing panic. This reflects on her character because this act was very impulsive and irresponsible. I also believe that the way she acts is a good reflection on her age. She acts like a stereotypical teenager, such as making irresponsible decisions without
In “A Dialogue on Personal Identity and Immortality” John Perry conveys conversations between a philosopher and her two friends a few nights before she dies. We then come to how the dying philosopher is trying to have everyone convince her that she will survive even after her body dies. In this John Perry claims that there are three ways of deliberating personal identity: bodily identity, psychological continuity and immaterial soul. The essay then describes the different types of identity and how they can use them to prove to the perishing philosopher that she can still remain alive. I will argue that the only way we can distinguish personal identity is through psychological continuity and how we can determine a person based on their memories and experiences. From this we can go into discussion about some terms that will be used throughout this paper.
Many philosophers and psychologist from Jean Piaget to William James have theorized what makes a person who they are, their identity. Jean Piaget believed that the identity is formed in the sensorimotor stage and the preoperational stage. This means that a child is forming his identity as late to the age of seven (Schellenberg, 29) However, identity is strongly impacted by society such as school, church, government, and other institutions. Through our interactions with different situations our personality develops (Schellenberg 34). "In most situations there is a more diversified opportunity for the development of social identities, reflecting what the individual wants to put forth to define the self as well as what others want to accept,"(Schellenberg 35). Therefore, humans, much like animals, adapt to different situations based on who they are with. Individuals are always changi...
Identity. What is identity? One will say that it is the distinct personality of an individual. Others will say that identity is the behavior of a person in response to their surrounding environment. At certain points of time, some people search for their identity in order to understand their existence in life. In regards, identity is shaped into an individual through the social trials of life that involve family and peers, the religious beliefs by the practice of certain faiths, and cultural awareness through family history and traditions. These are what shape the identity of an individual.
After returning from the internment camp, the boy and the girl tried to return to “normal” life again. School for them was an escape from judgment, even though they still had some problems that most normal people deal with occasionally, they still had hope that they would be treated equally when they returned to school. While walking to school the children couldn’t come to realization that looks were still being drawn to them by how they “ignored the passing glances of strangers”(Otsuka 120). Also the types of questions they were asked by strangers, “What kind of “ese” are you, Japanese or Chinese?”(Otsuka 120). What comes to mind is an image of how society glances upon a person with a different look. In today’s society judgment is still happening. People will do something different than other people and they will just give them a glare. Groups like the KKK, thought that treating people poorly with a different skin color was okay and their actions were a sign of power, ruining the lives of those with a different skin. Being a different skin is not a sin, it's a gift that God has given us, so that we can diversify around the world and get past all of the colorful chaos that people with power created in order to strike the fear in the eyes of people who are
Different situations change people, people change others. We don't necessarily have to change, but we do need to know who we are. We need to know who influences us and what can change us. Defining our personality and the reasons behind it is the first part of finding out who we are in and out.
How are our identities shaped? In the novel, The Perks of Being Wallflower, Stephen Chbosky character’s shapes their personalities in intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Michael’s depressed personality comes from extrinsic motivation. Brad’s embarrassed personality comes from extrinsic motivation. Charlie’s sensitive personality is created by extrinsic motivation. Identities are shaped by extrinsic motivation.
A person’s identity is shaped by many different aspects. Family, culture, friends, personal interests and surrounding environments are all factors that tend to help shape a person’s identity. Some factors may have more of an influence than others and some may not have any influence at all. As a person grows up in a family, they are influenced by many aspects of their life. Family and culture may influence a person’s sense of responsibilities, ethics and morals, tastes in music, humor and sports, and many other aspects of life. Friends and surrounding environments may influence a person’s taste in clothing, music, speech, and social activities. Personal interests are what truly set individuals apart. An individual is not a puppet on the string of their puppet-master, nor a chess piece on their master’s game board, individuals choose their own paths in life. They accomplish, or strive to accomplish, goals that they have set for themselves throughout their lifetime. Individuals are different from any other individual in the world because they live their own life rather than following a crowd of puppets. A person’s identity is defined by what shaped it in the first place, why they chose to be who they are, and what makes them different from everybody else in the world. I feel that I have developed most of my identity from my own dreams, fantasies, friends, and idols.
As a person develops they begin to mold into themselves based on what they admire or pick up around them. People who
And finally, circumstance is another important element to human identity. Where your born, the languages you speak, the social class you’re in, and ultimately the environment you 're around shapes the essence of your identity. For example take identical twins and put them in two different families in different parts of the world and then when they’re brought
Every country, state, city, even families have their own set of values. Culture is defined as a cluster of ideas, beliefs, characteristics, and behaviors shared by a group in society. When people talk about their identity and how it was formed, they tend to talk about what influenced them, what values came into it, how their experiences, negative or positive came to shape themselves. Since everyone is different people who counsel, treat, or work with helping other must be understanding and receptive of the individual’s identity and beliefs.
