The world is full a mean people Melody in the book Out of My Mind knows this very well. Melody has not been able to walk and talk since she was born. Her biggest dream would be able to talk. She has so many ideas and thoughts to share with people and is hard to that without talking. Melody is a very intelligent person. She seems to do very well in school and gets good grades. A lot of people think that this is because of the special ed teacher helping her and giving her all the answers. Melody really has struggled in school. Not with her grades but with the people around her. For example her social studies teacher has a geography bee and melody wins. Everyone thought it was a hoax even the teacher. They had to make sure that her special ed teacher didn’t help her. The other students in her class were jealous of her and that they beat her even though they may think she is stupid. In Spanish class, I sit across from this kid named Ben. He is really good at Spanish and helps me a lot. You may not think of him as someone like that but he really uses his gifts to his advantage. Melody tries to do that but just gets put down for trying to use her gifts to her advantage. When I was reading this book, I really started to think about that inspirational painter that came to our school. He talked about saying words of life not death. My book is about a thirteen year old girl name Raspberry Hill. She is a black African American girl that lives in the projects with her mom and they don’t won’t to live there. Her mom is a hard worker. Raspberry is afraid of being homeless again. Time back, her and her mom lived on the streets, lived in family houses and got kicked out. Raspberry doesn’t wants to be on the streets any more so this is why she has her mind stayed on money. She will do anything to get her hands on money. She will get down and dirty, skip lunch, skip school, clean houses and sell nasty rotten candy to the kids in school. When she goes to school she always has candy and pencils to sell to the kids in the school. She has 3 friend’s name Zora who has a single farther name Dr.Mitchell that’s in love with Raspberry’s mother, which upsets both of them, Mia who wants to be identified as black, but has African American and Korean parents, Ja'nae who stays with her grandparents but is urgently wanting to stay with her mom.
Often the change and transition to middle is a difficult one for students, so it is no surprise that a student of Juanita’s caliber would be having trouble as well. Her regular middle school teachers were not going above and beyond to make sure Juanita succeed, if anything it seemed as if Juanita was a burden to them. If it was not for the Ms. Issabelle’s effort, Juanita would have failed the 6th grade, and possibly fell through the cracks of the education system.

Mara, the main character, is a perfectionist. She has straight-As, is in National Honors Society, and is a future Yale student. She is competing with her only ex-boyfriend for the Valedictorian. Her life changes completely when her niece V, who is only a year younger than her, comes to live with Mara. V is a slutty, druggie that has an attitude. This story takes the reader on an adventure of two complete opposite girls who have to learn to love each other. Mara eventually learns that she cannot control everything and has to take life as it comes.
A student should never be denied the right to learn and become successful because of a different skin color, or because they speak a different language. “No saco nada de la escuela” by Luis Valdez is a play that discusses the racism in schools. The play starts with students going to elementary school and then ascending to middle school and college. At the beginning the students were not aware of what racism really was because of their innocence. However, the teacher that they had was very racist and bullied the students of color. That experience made the other kids realize that not everyone was the same and because of color or language they should be treated differently. There are five different students who take part of this play, two of those students were white, and there were two Chicanos and one black. That is great diversity of cultures. The teacher that the students have in elementary school was an example of the other professors they were going to have throughout their school years. Very arrogant and not understanding of the minority students. Their teachers were not really interested in teaching the minorities and always showed her discontent of having students of color. Their teachers didn’t believe that students who were part of a minority should be placed in the same classroom as the white students. Maybe that was because they didn’t know the potential a minority student could have. One Chicano student named Francisco never denied his roots and became very successful. In Ken Kesey’s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, the reader has the experience to understand what it was like to live in an insane asylum during the 1960’s. Kesey shows the reader the world within the asylum of Portland Oregon and all the relationships and social standings that happen within it. The three major characters’ groups, Nurse Ratched, the Black Boys, and McMurphy show how their level of power effects how they are treated in the asylum. Nurse Ratched is the head of the ward and controls everything that goes on in it, as she has the highest authority in the ward and sabotages the patients with her daily rules and rituals. These rituals include her servants, the Black Boys, doing anything she tells them to do with the patients.
There are many different examples demonstrating that the bullying experiences of the author are the main idea of the book. From 5th-12th grade she was tormented by her classmates. But her family and the friends she made along the way helped her get through and and overall she says it made her a better person. She overcame what happened her and let it change her in a positive way. She now works to prevent what happened to her from happening to anyone else. What could you do to prevent it? In conclusion, the main idea of this book is that bullying was a common occurrence in the life of Jodee Blanco but now the most common occurrence in her life is success.

In both of these stories, the main characters are letting other people control who they really are inside. In the story, Out of my MInd, the main character Melody has a disability where she cannot walk, talk, and she can barely move her body, but this doesn’t affect how her brain learns.
