The world is full a mean people Melody in the book Out of My Mind knows this very well. Melody has not been able to walk and talk since she was born. Her biggest dream would be able to talk. She has so many ideas and thoughts to share with people and is hard to that without talking. Melody is a very intelligent person. She seems to do very well in school and gets good grades. A lot of people think that this is because of the special ed teacher helping her and giving her all the answers. Melody tries to live like a regular girl in school but she knows that, that is not going to happen. Throughout the book melody goes the struggles and challenge of school and life. Melody really has struggled in school. Not with her grades but with the people around her. For example her social studies teacher has a geography bee and melody wins. Everyone thought it was a hoax even the teacher. They had to make sure that her special ed teacher didn’t help her. The other students in her class were jealous of her and that they beat her even though they may think she is stupid. In Spanish class, I sit across from this kid named Ben. He is really good at Spanish and helps me a lot. You may not think of him as someone like that but he really uses his gifts to his advantage. Melody tries to do that but just gets put down for trying to use her gifts to her advantage. When I was reading this book, I really started to think about that inspirational painter that came to our school. He talked about saying words of life not death.
