Protagonist Paragraph The protagonist of Most Likely to Succeed is Katherine “Kaye” Beale Gordon. She is a senior in high school, vice-president of student council, and head cheerleader at her high school. She is the epitome of what every high school girl imagines: popular and in control. Kaye exhibits the two character traits of proactiveness and prestigiousness. Kaye exemplifies proactiveness by already having her life planned out, for after high school. Throughout Most Likely to Succeed, Kaye continuously talks about what she planned. At the beginning, she talks about having plans with her highschool sweetheart, Aidan. They planned to “establish [their] banking careers, and then getting married,” for which she had known the plan for “three …show more content…
The first most important event in Most Likely to Succeed is when the student council meets. This is the reader's first time meeting Kaye, Sawyer, and Aidan. Sawyer, the parliamentarian, interjects in the meeting that Aidan should try to have the homecoming dance even though the basketball court is damaged and they will have to change locations. Kaye, Aidan’s girlfriend, agrees with Sawyer, and Aidan hates it because Kaye is suppose to be on his side in his opinion. This is Aidan’s “last straw” with Kaye and he decides to take a break with her at the football game after he gets a recommendation letter from Kaye’s mother (81). Aidan was using Kaye for the recommendation so that he would have a chance in getting into Colombia, even though before he got to her house he had already decided to take a break with her. After the breakup, Kaye goes to her friend’s house and they have girl talk. Although Sawyer is there, he is sleep and do not hear the girls talking about him. The girls tell Kaye to “experiment” with Sawyer “as long as [she is] on a break with Aidan”(107). Kaye was hesitant because she thought that “Aidan wld never go out w [her] again,” even though Aidan had no intentions with getting back with her (108). Kaye wanted to be in a relationship with Sawyer, but she was afraid that he “reject”
In the Lilies of the Field by William E. Barrett, Homer and Mother Maria both display straightforward, hardworking, and stubborn character traits. Firstly, Homer and Mother Maria both display a straightforward personality by being brutally honest about their opinions. For example, when Mother Maria asks Homer to build a chapel, Homer speaks his mind by telling her he does not want to build it. Mother Maria shows her straightforward behavior during Homer’s stay at the convent. One morning, when Homer sleeps in late, Mother to becomes extremely upset and is not afraid to show how she feels about him. Secondly, both Homer and Mother Maria display a hardworking spirit. Homer is a hardworking man because after finally agreeing to build the chapel,
People have goals everyday, believe it or not some people think that dreams aren't worth it. I believe that it is worth it to dream because it gives a person a goal, it makes them feel good, and it makes them stronger. I know this from The Pearl, A Cubs video, the Susan Boyle video, and We Beat the streets.
She believes the American Dream means having family and a home. Her beliefs are not negative, but her attitude regarding obtaining these possessions is negative. She tries to obtain a family or a loving relationship and preserve a home by any means necessary. In the novel, she is portrayed as a separated young woman whom is irresponsible and selfish. She willingly pursues a married man in an effort to have someone she can love and someone to love her back. She does not want to be alone or feel lonely. She disregards the wife and children Lester has at home. After Kathy loses her home, she makes poor choices to retrieve her home. She takes the law into her own hands and disregards the feeling and lives of the new owners of the home. Kathy’s actions are unacceptable, but her view of the American Dream is simplistic and
Success is the chance to go out there and use the resources available to take advantage of opportunities that most people do not. Usually, things happen in life and it can prevent the process of obtaining success. In the readings, “The Lesson” by Toni Cade Bambara and “Horatio Alger” by Harlon L. Dalton conveys the message that success is not always an everyday thing and it takes opportunities for it to become part of life. In “The Lesson”, an angered girl named Sylvia is taken on a field trip to a toy store with Miss Moore to learn a valuable lesson. The lesson is to become successful in society because it is the only way to make it to the top. On the other hand, “Horatio Alger” shows more of a realistic viewpoint where success is not as easy
When Michael Oher was a child, his life was a mayhem of homelessness and starvation. If you take a glimpse at him now, you never would have suspected that he came from such an unfortunate beginning. However, his book I Beat The Odds reveals certain times in his life where had he not made such phenomenal decisions for his future he might have not succeeded. This story also deciphers the reason he is so spectacular today, because of his past. Flashing back to Michael’s childhood, it is observed that Michael had an abounding amount of siblings in his family. He was one of the younger brothers, yet he felt the responsibility to foster his siblings at a very young age. His family never said “I love you” and they by no means had enough food to go around. His
In the book The seventh most important thing by:Shelley Pearsall Arthur Owens distributes multiple character traits but only two really stood out to me. Based on what he did most people probably think that he is a crazy kid that always gets into trouble, but not in my opinion. One of the Character traits that stands out to me most is that he is very caring when it comes to his mom and Barbra, an example for that is when he heard his mom crying down stairs he ran down there to check and see if she was ok. That shows that he is caring because he was trying to be there for her, if he wasn't caring he wouldn't have ran down there to see what was wrong. Another Character trait I noticed was that he was pretty kind, he went out of his way to give
The definition of success varies around the world, but according to Malcolm Gladwell its achievement can be broken down into a few components. Although Gladwell never truly establishes credibility in his book Outliers, he still backs up his proposed theories with reputable studies and sources which intrigue the audience to keep reading. The purpose of Outliers was to enlighten people about the different elements of success while also informing them of real life situations where seemingly less than likely people beat the odds and became the powerful figures that they are today. The intended audience is anyone who is looking to become successful or who is perhaps interested in the idea of success itself and wishes to learn more about it. Understandably, a secondary audience could be high school students who are about to venture out into the world on their own because with this book they will hopefully start paying attention to different factors of their lives and seizing opportunities that they may have otherwise passed up. Malcolm Gladwell talks about the 10,000 Hour Rule and also how I.Q. does not amount to much without creativity. He also speaks of how chance opportunity comes into play and that the distant background of a person still reflects how they handle situations in their present day life. Gladwell’s Outliers successfully informs the reader about the different components that add up to success with probable theories and credible studies to make for an interesting and motivational read.

Noah remains loyal to Allie even in the situation where he is unsure whether they will ever meet again or not.

Success is defined as the attainment of wealth, position, or honors. It can also mean the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors; the accomplishment of one’s goals. My definition is expressed in a way that makes success not just focused on wealth and being prosperous. Success is not only measured on how much money one makes or what kind of car they drive or how many luxurious things one has in their life. It is also about achieving what one personally wants to achieve in their life. When one sets goals for themselves and they accomplish them, they earn the right to be successful in their life.
Even though the definition of “success” has a very nuanced meaning depending on its culture and context, highly successful people typically exhibit the same universal characteristics. For despite common belief, successful people are not affiliated with some exclusive club and it has to do more with attitude than superior I.Q intelligence. Therefore, many people have the ability to learn about how they can be successful and do better than they are now. Due to having the privilege of interacting with successful people on a daily basis, I gradually coined my own theory of success. In addition, interviewing successful college students for the basis of the EPE course project has managed to further support and strengthen my theory. Yet rather than just being applied to an academic setting like a college or school, theses theories can be slightly modified to be applied in other aspects of life as well. It should be worth emphasizing that exhibiting some of these traits are likely good indicators of being a successful person, however there are a lot more not mentioned. For due to their vast variety, it would be extremely difficult to talk about each of them individually. As a result, I have taken the liberty of grouping them into broader categories and have listed them in no particular order.
