I think Darrel Curtis is a Static and round character. Darry does not show a major realisation throughout the book and that would make him static. Ponyboy thinks that Darry does not love him but in fact he has showed it throughout the entire book it’s just in his own way. “I didn’t think! I forgot! That's all i hear from you. Can’t you think of anything.” Darry was showing his love by being a big brother and trying to teach Pony through discipline. “You two do up the dishes. You go to the movies if you want to before you go see Dally and Johnny.” Darry was showing his love by rewarding Pony with the movies for doing his hard work. I also think Darry is a Round character he has many traits and shows them throughout the book. “I told you, you
Before going to Alaska, Chris McCandless had failed to communicate with his family while on his journey; I believe this was Chris’s biggest mistake. Chris spent time with people in different parts of the nation while hitchhiking, most of them whom figured out that McCandless kept a part of him “hidden”. In chapter three, it was stated that Chris stayed with a man named Wayne Westerberg in South Dakota. Although Westerberg was not seen too often throughout the story, nevertheless he was an important character. Introducing himself as Alex, McCandless was in Westerberg’s company for quite some time: sometimes for a few days, other times for several weeks. Westerberg first realized the truth about Chris when he discovered his tax papers, which stated that “McCandless’s real name was Chris, not Alex.” Wayne further on claims that it was obvious that “something wasn’t right between him and his family” (Krakauer 18). Further in the book, Westerberg concluded with the fact that Chris had not spoken to his family “for all that time, treating them like dirt” (Krakauer 64). Westerberg concluded with the fact that during the time he spent with Chris, McCandless neither mentioned his

“The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is that my story could have been his” (Moore, 2011). This quote perfectly describes the book The Other Wes Moore. This book was a story about two people who have the same name and grew up in similar environments, but had very different lives. The author of the book, Mr. Moore, became successful and was given the opportunity to receive “one of the most prestigious academic awards for students in the world” (Moore, 2011). On the other side of the spectrum, the other Wes Moore “will spend every day until his death behind bars for an armed robbery that left a police officer and a father of five dead” (Moore, 2011). Mr. Moore decided to contact the
In The Other Wes Moore, the author and a neighbor have the same name, Wes Moore, and they both begin their lives in similar ways. However, as their lives progress, they begin to part. For example, both “lost” their fathers when they were young. Because of the way their mothers respond to this loss, the boys’ lives begin to separate. Both mothers have different responses to challenges in general, which eventually leads them to respond to their child’s actions in contrasting ways. Throughout this novel, readers learn that depending on how a mother decides to react to the negative actions of their child’s actions, the child can either lead a successful life or lead a life of failure.
Facts: Chet is basically Gene's only real competition in school for valedictorian but Chet doesn't really notice it as competition because his love of learning is so sincere. Also, he is amazing as tennis and playing the trumpet, and was even asked by Finny to play at their winter get together when the band can't come.
Darry is really sensible when it comes to Ponyboy because from the perspective of a reader you would think he's such a bad brother because he hits Ponyboy and is always strict and scolds him it's all out of the love for him so he does not turn out a bad kid like Dally and you could see in the quote that Dally was sincere for his actions. When Ponyboy got hurt badly from the church fire when he came back he stated “Suddenly I realized, horrified, there were tears running down Darry’s cheeks, he didn't make a sound but tears were running down his cheeks.” (page 98) This shows that behind the scolding and being strict Darry was so sad and worried for Ponyboy and his emotions got out when he saw him all bandaged up and in the hospital. To follow up on that, Darry states “Oh Pony, I thought we lost you like mom and dad.” (Page 98) This is a huge quote because Darry thought Ponyboy died and he got really sad because of that and he thought his youngest brother and his parents died and if that did happen
The Protagonist “Ponyboy Curtis”, had Adversity with Darry. He tried his best to explain all the mistakes that he made, and Darry would just start yelling at him, and go completely insane. Ponyboy didn’t want to live with him that way, because his would’ve
To the 20, to the 10, to the 5, touchdown! Charlie Gaines is a football phanatic. He knows all there is to know about football. From his favorite team the Los Angeles Bulldogs to the New England Patriots Charlie knows it all. Above all this Charlie truly wishes he were a better football player like his bosom buddy Kevin Fallon. All in all he is still a decent middle linebacker for the Culver City Cardinals. A kid known as the “Brain” because of his freakishly good ability at fantasy football, Charlie Gaines is a very interesting character.
Christopher Johnson McCandless, a.k.a Alexander Supertramp, “Master of his Own Destiny.” He was an intelligent young man who presented himself as alone but really he was never lonely. However, he believed that life was better lived alone, with nature, so he ventured off throughout western United States before setting off into Alaska’s wild unprepared where he died. Some may say he was naive to go off on such a mission without the proper food and equipment but he was living life the way he wanted to and during his travels he came across three people: Jan Burres, Ronald Franz, and Wayne Westerberg. McCandless befriended these people, it is believed that he made such a strong impression on them that their connection left them with strange feelings after finding out about McCandless’ death.
“Since Mom and Dad were killed in an auto wreck, the three of us get to stay together only as long as we behave (2).” This explains why Ponyboy, Dally and Sodapop did not have parents. In the novel, this really effected their life and character. "…It was Darry. He hit me. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't take him hollering at me and hitting me too... He didn't use to be like that... we used to get along okay... before Mom and Dad died. Now he just can't stand me (2)." This shows that not having their parents anymore effected Darry’s character and how he treated Ponyboy, which in return effected how Ponyboy felt about himself in comparison to how he was treated. This illustrates that Ponyboy believes that Darry picks on him all the time. This shows that Darry was like a caring parent in a tough way,

Dean Nils Harstad is the prime example of a character who takes harmful shortcuts as his interactions with Marly were pre-planned to have a specific outcome, one completely unrelated to the love he claimed to have for her. Dean Harstad’s true passion in life was to spread Christianity after the, “fall of Godless Communism in Europe” and Marly was simply a means to an end (Smiley 214). Dean Harstad’s belief that the spread of Christianity was God’s mission for him suggests one of two options; Dean Harstad experienced a religious awakening the likes of which have not been seen since St. Paul or, the more likely of the two, Harstad is simply using religion as a shield to achieve his goals by any means necessary without having to explain himself.
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman’s Giles Corey, Yeoman narrates the events leading to the death of the titular character, along with his beloved wife. Although both Giles and Martha Corey are accused of being witches, and two other characters self-identify as witches, the existence of witchcraft is never made definitively clear. While not adhering strictly to historical fact, depicting Martha as dying several weeks before Giles whereas in real life she died several days after, the play suggests that the cause of the Witch Panic was not witchcraft itself, but enmity between neighbours, expressed through female spite and male obstinacy.
Darry is very caring for his family and works for them too.“If we don't have each other, we don't have anything. If you don't have anything, you end up like Dallas...and I don't mean dead, either.” (pg 154) Hinton This shows that he cares for everyone and wants them all to have each others backs so nothing bad ever happens to them."And I can't even call the cops because you two would be put in a boys' home so fast it would make your heads spin." (pg 49) Hinton This shows he won't call the police because he doesn't want the social workers to take them away. All of this shows that he is more than qualified to take care of Ponyboy.
