Haas and Flower created an interesting point when I read “Rhetorical Reading Strategies and the Construction of Meaning “. In the reading, Haas and Flower, provided multiple propositions to apply, however a key one certainly caught my eye. Haas and Flower proposed various arguments, yet their main idea implied that there needs to be an increase in rhetorical reading. I came to the conclusion that increasing rhetorical reading was their main point due to a statement in the text. “We would like to help extend this constructive, rhetorical view of reading, which we share with others in the field…” [Haas and Flower, 167] the following statement blandly states their intention to spread an important strategy, reading rhetorically, among community.

“ From One Second To The Next”, A film by Werner Herzog, he repeats the quote “ It can wait” This quote describes how that one text can take lives of our loved ones with one blink. Throughout his film, he illustrates how we put innocent people in danger with our one mistake. He expresses the main point by using people who have suffered the pain of losing the life of their loved one. I agree with Herzog’s idea of a text that can be made later on instead of when you are driving. But I also disagree with the criminal system because it delivers a light sentence and does not deliver justice to the people who have grieved.
Within an organization one of the key tools that they use is that of: communication. Communication is a primary key to any organization and without it there is no cohesion, no leadership, and no functionality. Communication is an essential component for effective leadership and management. Without it, the organization will struggle carry out their mission. Simply communicating is not enough. Effective communication hinges on the clarity of the message. As Popovic and Hocenski (2009) stated, a “Leader must be able to communicate clearly to others in a language that they can understand on all levels in an organization, from the most unskilled worker through to the Chief Executive” (pp. 15-16). There are a lot of elements that can affect one’s ability to accomplish that. A small, but distinctly important, few are discussed in the following paragraphs.
It is clear in looking closely at a brick-and-mortar versus virtual organization the key difference is in communication and collaboration and how the organizational leader effectively communicates to the followership. In a traditional organization the leader, leads behind four walls, with face-to-face communication as the driving force in moving his or her organization. In a virtual organization, the leader still has the same power to communicate with the organization, but it is often through email, chat or online technology which some might suggest is non personal and often open for interpretation or perception of what is really being said. The debate may swing as a pendulum, either way, whether a brick-and-mortar or a virtual organization, a leader must build criteria in moving the organization towards success.
To achieve equilibrium, H&M encourages open communication and employee engagement within the company to satisfy both goal and needs. Choosing a topic for this paper was very difficult. Many topics seemed very interesting, but after reviewing many topics the choice was clear. I also took into consideration the fact that we would be presenting these topics to the class. So, I choose the communication process. It is very important in management. Having been a manager for three years, I felt I would be able to explain this topic well to the class.
Communication is defined as “the transfer and understanding of meaning” (Robbins & Judge, 2013) and is the foundation of every relationship. There are four main reasons for communication in business. They are to control, motivation, emotional expression and information (Robbins & Judge, 2013). Without effective communication the sharing of ideas, information, feelings and questions cannot be completed. There is a process to communication and when the process is broken communication is not effective. In business it is a manager’s responsibility to understand the process of communication, the functions of the communications and to minimize any barriers to communication so that there is effective communication.

Today a person can communicate with almost anyone in the world at any time. Leaders in today’s workplace face new advantages and new challenges when it comes to advances in communication. The traditional workplace is changing as the virtual workplace expands. Research indicates that one of the biggest challenges to companies today is finding leaders with the skills to thrive in a complex and changing world (Dennis, Meola, Hall, 2013). Leaders of today need to be able to reach across differing cultures, many time zones, and they need to collaborate and build alliances across geographic distances (Dennis et al., 2013). Leaders today need to have a global mindset which includes operating from multiple sites, directing workers at multiple locations and working with clients in different geographic areas (Dennis et al., 2013). In a recent study by ASTD.org entitled Virtual Leadership: Going the distance to manage your team, a survey of five hundred and five managers found that ninety-nine percent responds affirmatively when asked if their employer provides some employees to opportunity to work virtually (Mandzuk, 2014).
