My thoughts and reactions about how the roles are changing between the genders are not surprising at all. These four articles and chapter 3 immediately reminded me of 2003 “Daddy Day Care” movie starring Eddie Murphy as Charlie Hinton and Regina King as Kim Hinton. The father in the movie Charlie Hinton was laid off and his wife Kim had just gone back to work as a lawyer. In which, the gender structure in the home changed between the two main characters in the movie due to financial capabilities that one of spouses was able to work and the other one stayed at home to take care of the child. In Spencer’s interview with Ohio’s Kenyon College Dean Jennifer Delahunty, Dean Delahunty was conveying her thoughts about young men in college with the following statement “there’s a kind of anti-intellectualism of young men that really bothers me.”(p. 1) This made me instantly refer back to the Families and Works Institute research project. In which, these shifts in gender socialization in schools have made a significant change in the attitudes, beliefs, and drive by the male gender between the 2008 and 2012 compared to the female gender now. This movement in gender and social change was quite evident and acceptable by each gender.
