Changing Birth Rates Around the World

Birth rates are a key indication in any situation to a countries

economic development. The world has largely varying birth rates from

less than 1.7 born per couple in the United Kingdom to over 4.6 in

countries such as Pakistan. Birth rate scan be influenced by many

factors, here is an in depth description of these factors.

Sanitation and health care are two main factors or birth rates.

England has one of the best health services in the world and provides

adequate sanitat6ion to everyone who is a legal occupant of the UKas a

legal right. The Uk also provides a free health care system in which

contraception is freely provided and in which sex education is

promoted. Good health care also provides a longer life expectancy and

therefore a large proportion of women are now having children in later

life and having careers in early life instead. This has caused a

significant drop in birth rates, so much so that birth rates are

actually declining against death rates so the United Kingdom has a

dying and ageing population.

In Pakistan it is in their culture to have a large family consisting

of mainly males, this is because the value of a male is apparently

higher for manual labour which in their economy ids the main source of

work. Pakistan also does not offer a free health service and operation

such as abortion as not readily available and are frowned upon by

their religion and culture. Because of this and poor schooling,

contraception and sex education are not available. This causes

increased birth rates and therefore a lack of jobs, as there culture

dictates " if a family has a falling income there is a need for more

sons to create a higher income" this therefore is a misguided mistakes

the more people you introduce into the world the less jobs there

becomes.

Another main factor of birth rate is the education towards the use of

contraception. Most medc's with free schooling have falling birth
