The name’s Chanel Oberlin. If there was just one word to describe me, it would be queen. I rule my sorority, Kappa Kappa Tau. My minions Chanel #2, Chanel #3, and Chanel #5 grovel at my feet. We don't talk about #4, but if you're really curious, she left and went home because she was “sick.” As soon as she arrived home, she died. It just proves that karma exists. In it was a list of riddles that were beyond vague. We decided that we wanted to live so we started to decode the first riddle. The first riddle was, “she loved her candles so very much. She was one you guys would never touch.” We quickly figured out it was Jennifer. We thought of places that would carry candles. There is only one candle place downtown called “Can Can Candles.” We went in and it was pitch black. We entered a candle-making room. When we entered, Jennifer’s dead body laid surrounded by candles. We dragged it up to our car checking out surroundings. We didn't want anyone to catch us dragging a dead body to our car if you know what I mean. We checked her body off the list and we searched for the next pledge. The next riddle was, “she looked like she belonged here with her funky hat. It started as any ordinary day at Fowler Middle School, kids laughing and learning. But, at 8:51 AM, a classroom of students walked into a horrifying scene. Billy Plummer, the boyfriend of the victim's daughter, committed this murder. It is clear that the murderer was Mr.Plummer because of involvement in previous conflicts with Mrs. Tokzullot, presence at the crime scene and access to the murder weapon.
Meg goes back to Melinda’s diary. When Meg looks at the riddles, she notices one line that says: “Monticello points the way” and she realizes that it might refer to an old desk the sisters own that once belonged to Thomas Jefferson. The hidden spring must be a spring on the desk, Meg thinks. Clara tells Meg that the sisters already knew about a small hidden compartment on the desk, but it was empty. Meg appears to be at another dead end, but more strange events are to follow.

I looked forward to this day every year, it was my favorite day of all time. I enjoyed learning all the things that happened before me. It was my way of being there when I actually wasn't. I ran to school as soon as I picked up my brown paper bag that contains my lunch. I grabbed my books from the cubbies at school, I came in just as the teacher was scratching down the morning list on the chalkboard. I sat at the front because usually, the kids that sit at the back get the meter stick. I grabbed my books out, just like the teacher asked, and started reading chapters 4 and 5. That's when I heard snickering in the back, “Ha Ha Emma’s a loser, she must be scarred from the concentration camps, she’ll never grow up to be a normal person”. I just sat at my desk acting like nothing ever happened, like I do every day. I focus more on my reading, so I don’t think about the pain. I always push it to the back of my mind, not wanting to make a scene. Suddenly, Tommy stone walked in front of my desk. A white paper landed on my desk, I quietly picked it up trying not to make any sudden moves. I unfolded it under my desk, hiding it from my classmates. Tears started rolling down my pink checks, I wiped them off with my sleeve, trying to make a normal face, with what strength I had left in me. I shoved everything back in my body. With what
