Throughout the advances in technology, these technological improvements seem to have been beneficial in the medical field also. Scientist and Medical workers have been improving on the various kinds of therapies and treatments for people who suffer with this condition. The therapies that are existing and that help patients with Cerebral Palsy include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and recreational therapy. Usually all states have federally-mandated programs, generally known “Regional Centers”, as for the benefit of the treatment of children with Cerebral Palsy and other developmental conditions. There are several types of medication for different types of needs and it is different for each patient. Some of the drug treatments may include isolated spasticity for when spasticity is isolated to one muscle group. The medication for this is usually in an injection format. This medication called Onabotulinumtoxina also helps improve drooling. There are some risky side effects as with any other medication there are. The other type of medication there is is for generalized spasticity. This is common for when the whole body is affected. These drugs include Diazepam, Dantrolene, and Baclofen. All of these drugs contain risky side effects as well. There are some surgical and other procedures that also may seem to be beneficial to Cerebral Palsy patients. Surgery may be needed to lessen muscle tightness or correct bone abnormalities and deformities caused by spasticity. These surgical treatments include orthopedic surgery and severing nerves surgery. Orthopedic surgery is generally for children with severe contractures or deformities that may need surgery on bones or joints to place their arms hips, or legs in their correct …show more content…

Cannabis, another word for the plant in which Marijuana comes from, has proved to show medical efficacy for symptoms of Cerebral Palsy such as spasticity, pain, and sleep disturbance. Medical Marijuana provides the patient with very few low risk side effects as the other medications provide the patient with much more hazardous side effects that can be dangerous to the patient’s health. Medical Marijuana is also sometimes prescribed to Cancer patients to help them relieve pain and there are innumerable of testimonies that claim it has been a huge life changer throughout their whole process with medication and Chemotherapy. In addition to, there are also some alternative medicines that are for use of only to those who have tried other options but have not seen results. For example Hyperbaric oxygen therapy which is also promoted for use of as a treatment for Cerebral Palsy but it has shown limited efficacy. There are also other forms of electrical stimulation but these as well have shown limited effectiveness on the patient’s health regarding to Cerebral
