Throughout the advances in technology, these technological improvements seem to have been beneficial in the medical field also. Scientist and Medical workers have been improving on the various kinds of therapies and treatments for people who suffer with this condition. The therapies that are existing and that help patients with Cerebral Palsy include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and recreational therapy. Usually all states have federally-mandated programs, generally known “Regional Centers”, as for the benefit of the treatment of children with Cerebral Palsy and other developmental conditions. Physical therapy focuses on muscle training and exercises that helps with strength, flexibility, balance, mobility …show more content…
There are several types of medication for different types of needs and it is different for each patient. Some of the drug treatments may include isolated spasticity for when spasticity is isolated to one muscle group. The medication for this is usually in an injection format. This medication called Onabotulinumtoxina also helps improve drooling. There are some risky side effects as with any other medication there are. The other type of medication there is is for generalized spasticity. This is common for when the whole body is affected. These drugs include Diazepam, Dantrolene, and Baclofen. All of these drugs contain risky side effects as well. There are some surgical and other procedures that also may seem to be beneficial to Cerebral Palsy patients. Surgery may be needed to lessen muscle tightness or correct bone abnormalities and deformities caused by spasticity. These surgical treatments include orthopedic surgery and severing nerves surgery. Orthopedic surgery is generally for children with severe contractures or deformities that may need surgery on bones or joints to place their arms hips, or legs in their correct …show more content…
Cannabis, another word for the plant in which Marijuana comes from, has proved to show medical efficacy for symptoms of Cerebral Palsy such as spasticity, pain, and sleep disturbance. Medical Marijuana provides the patient with very few low risk side effects as the other medications provide the patient with much more hazardous side effects that can be dangerous to the patient’s health. Medical Marijuana is also sometimes prescribed to Cancer patients to help them relieve pain and there are innumerable of testimonies that claim it has been a huge life changer throughout their whole process with medication and Chemotherapy. In addition to, there are also some alternative medicines that are for use of only to those who have tried other options but have not seen results. For example Hyperbaric oxygen therapy which is also promoted for use of as a treatment for Cerebral Palsy but it has shown limited efficacy. There are also other forms of electrical stimulation but these as well have shown limited effectiveness on the patient’s health regarding to Cerebral
Treatment for Spinal Muscular Atrophy is currently unavailable to correct this condition. But a person can take other steps to try to help comfort the situation they are in but there is no stopping it. Physical therapy is important because it can help work the muscle to prevent contraction of them. Breathing machines are an important to have because a lot of trouble falls under the breathing when the weakness of these muscles occurs.
Nutrition, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight are extremely important factors in controlling the factors and symptoms related to OI. Bone health is essential to maintaining the brittle bone disease and requires correct amounts of dietary calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus to remain strong. Muscle strength is also a key point in controlling OI since muscles play a key role in the movement of the body. Engaging in physical therapy is vital for the patient and must be performed so that they are able to bear their own weight. The patients should often be encouraged to increase their strength, walking, and running. The physical therapy for the patient should be started as soon as the child shows a developmental delay or shows weak motor activity.

How many of us wished to have super powers as kids ? I don't mean being strong as hulk, being bitten by a spider to be able to climb buildings like spider man, or be able to fly like birds around the city in the blue sky's. It is known that the human brain can not focus on a single task more than 10%. But there have been some individuals that are capable of this ability. Daniel Tammet have learned one of the most strenuous languages on earth fluently in just 7 days from his interview or Stephen Wiltshire which was capable of drawing the New York city and Rome just by having an one time tour with the helicopter and flying around the city he was able to draw the whole city and mentioning all the details without captivating any pictures or writing any notes. Amazing right? Sadly these talents have their own cost. Most of these indivisible suffer in their daily lives not being able to communicate with others within verbal communication or emotionally, most of them can't even function in their daily lives by their own, dress by them self or even eat a simple lunch not even talking about preparing the food leaving them to intended to live their lives isolated from the society. This rare syndrome i'm talking about is recognized as the savant syndrome. it's an unique condition letting the persons have an intelligence above normal in some ares in life such as musical, mechanical, artistic and mathematical, in exchange of limiting this person emotionally. Savant syndrome touches several people in the world. It can occur after birth or later in any stage of life. It affects both males and females but occurs mostly in males. Many scientists have come with different explanations for the savant syndrome. First it was discovered in 1987 by J.London Down. Also, he was the one that devised and related the disorder with the skill to mention an amazing memory. A study published by Bernard Rimland have states that "the savant skills most often present in autistic people are those associated with right hemisphere functions and the most deficient abilities are associated with left hemisphere functions (Treffer, 2002). This supports prove that the left brain hemisphere model to be correct.
Many people have heard the term cerebral palsy and may have a personal perception about the appearance and effects of this
In the 1960’s, an Austrian pediatrician, Dr. Andres Rett, recognized a few of his female patients with similar indications of having some type of neurologic disorder but did not fit the cerebral palsy classification (Zoghbi, 2002). Without the knowledge of earlier research, a Swedish physician, Bengt Hagberg, began to openly speak about his observations similarly to Dr. Andres Rett records (Zoghbi, 2002). Bengt Hagberg observed numerous of female patients with this unknown syndrome and was curious in their wringing hand movement that no textbook had information on. In June 1981 Dr. Neil Gordon hosted a board meeting of the European Federations of Child Neurology Societies in Manchester and Bengt Hagberg had the opportunity to share his studies there. The discussion group had other pediatric neurologists that had seen the same behaviors but they all were unable to categorize it into its own identity. As years past, this syndrome has increased and neurologist began to evaluate this syndrome t...
...ed to be provided. Every child’s impairment is different and unique so therefore no treatment for cerebral palsy exists worldwide. (A comprehensive treatment plan is required to coordinate care of all conditions – primary, secondary, associative and co-mitigating conditions. Because of variety of conditions that need to be addressed, a treatment plan usually involves a multidisciplinary team of medical specialists working closely with the child’s pediatrician to establish and accomplish care goals.) Parents or legal guardians need to work closely with the multi-disciplinary team. (The comprehensive treatment plan takes the child’s abilities into consideration, as well as his or her socio-economic situation and home care dynamics. Health
Today, in the United States alone there are over: 400,000 cases of Multiple Sclerosis, 4 million cases of glaucoma, and between 1.3 and 2.8 million cases of epilepsy. That is at least 5.7 million people that suffer every single day. For many of those people, the situation seems hopeless, but there is an option that may help. Medical marijuana has been proven to be very helpful in all of those cases including other things such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and just pain in general. Not only has it been known to help reduce pain and other symptoms from those diseases but it has also becoming apparent that marijuana may also be able to potentially slow down cancer as a connection has been made between the plant turning off a gene
Dr. William Little wrote the first medical description of the disorder in the 1860’s. He thought most cases of CP were caused by complications at birth resulting in lack of oxygen to the brain. Cerebral Palsy was called Little's disease for many years. CP refers to neurological disorders that appear in early childhood and affect movement and coordination (“Cerebral Palsy: Hope”). Although CP is caused by damage to the motor areas of the brain and affects body movement and muscle coordination, it is not caused by problems in the muscles o...

Medically, marijuana has proven to be a productive drug. Studies show marijuana has helped dealing with “pain, muscle spasms, seizure disorders and nausea from cancer chemotherapy.” (Weir) Scientist believes these benefits come from a chemical compound in marijuana called cannabidiol. This chemical is not the active chemical that gives marijuana users the mind-altering effects. With the unce...

Autism spectrum disorder has become the most common neurological and developmental disorder diagnosed in children today. The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2012) estimate that 1 out of every 88 American children have been properly diagnosed. There is no known cure for autism, and the inconsistencies of the symptoms of autism in each case make it difficult to target a particular set of effective treatments. However some behavior management therapies, specifically physical therapy, may help to significantly control the unwanted symptoms in young children with autism spectrum disorder.
...to a positive outcome, when traditional medicine has failed. Cannabis plants that are high in CBD have been proven to aid children with killing cancer cells and reducing epilepsy seizures. The potential use to retard tumor growth and spreading is even more appealing considering that Cannabis shows a good safety profile, regarding toxicity, and is already used in cancer patients as palliatives to stimulate appetite and to prevent devastating effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain. Children and their families gain strength when a sick child can eat and sleep resulting in a positive outcome for everyone. There are many different options available for how cannabis may be given pure extract from the plant is the most effective way for treating children with conditions such as cancer and epilepsy.
