The definition of a cell phone is a portable telephone that uses wireless cellular energy to send or receive messages or voice calls. The first people who were able to correctly demonstrate the usage of the first cell phone were two men by the names of John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper. It had been named “The Jitterbug” . It looked like a big house phone. It also weighed about 2.3 pounds (or 1 kg) Only thing was, it had finally been able to be used in a different place than home. In the year 1983, the next cell phone that had become available was the DynaTac 8000x. It also looked like a big house phone, but that was the first phone to be publicly released. By the year of 1983, the phone had a price on it which was $3,995. Yeah i know what you’re thinking, that’s a lot of money. But if you think on it, that was the only device that was available for portable communication in the US. As the years went by, the phones started to develop as they had gotten upgraded a lot. They communicated better, the size started to decrease including the weight, and they were able to add mobile network (internet) to them. People have studied the ideal cell phone and worked on the ins and out of it to create the beautiful multitalented phones we have as of today. Cell Phones have enormously evolved from the time they were first created in 1973 to the year 2014 which is the year we are in as of today. We have went from the Jitterbug to the Nokia phones. Those came out with more things like images and little games on them. The famous games like snake, brick attack, Tetris, and other little gray and black fuzzy games. Those phones had become smaller with less weight. Then we had upgrade from nokias to now the iPhone 5s which is the most purchased ... ... middle of paper ... ...d to teach them how to be responsible with the phone. They should assign punishments for the children if they violate the rules of having a cell phone. They also need to keep them from researching the bad things and keep to the positive. Well to me, overall I think cell phones are not that harmful. Cell phones are only harmful if they remain in the wrong hands. If you feel that you are responsibly ready for a cell phone, then gone ahead and get one. But if you feel like it can cause a distraction to your work ethic or education, don’t even bother. We don’t need any more accidents, or kids not graduating because of them being distracted of a cell phone. I sometimes get distracted by it but not while I am working like on this essay. My phone has not been touched since I have worked on this paper. So cell phones are good in the right hands.
Cell phone sells were at its apex. Cooper and his team devised a technology so novel that the popularity of it was instantaneous. A device with the ability of only conversating is what the first cell phone was, but as time progressed and technology flourished the once simple talking device transformed into a diminutive computer. Gradually, a plethora of unique features were supplemented to the cell phone sharpening its value making it worthier and superior to the first cell phone. These features include browser accessib...
Cellphones have changed physically and technologically throughout the decades. From the militarized phone bags that were used to give orders during war to the more modernized, smaller, multi-use cellphones where anything can be found
In 1983, Motorola released its first cell phone, known as the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, which offered 30 minutes of talk-time, six hour standby, and could store 30 phone numbers. By that time, cell phones were extremely expensive -- the DynaTAC 8000X costs 3995 dollars, and the cellular network was limited. To analyze the development and interpretative flexibility of the cell phone at its early stage, we must first introduce social groups that were related to the artefact. The users of the artefact were the most important social group. At the time, users were mainly constructed by businessmen, managers, politicians, doctors, big companies, military etc. who had high income and had to remain in contact with others occasionally. For them, the cell phones were the extension of corded phones that helps keeping the communication on without the limit of ranges. Thus, the problems that this social group had with cell phones are rather clear. The cell phones were too big and heavy, the talking time was too short for frequent users, and the nu...
Cell phone technology dates all the way back to 1947. “In that year researchers first developed ideas as to the possibility of creating mobile phones that used "cells" that would identify a user in whatever specific region he or she was initiating the call from” (Cell Phone World). Still the technology was very limited at the time, so much more extensive research was required. In 1968 private companies started getting involved with cell phone development, such as AT&T. The FCC (The Federal Communications Commission) then opened new frequencies and the private companies had the theory of cellular towers. Each tower would be responsible for a particular region. When a customer traveled farther a way from one region it would switch the call to a closer tower with no interruption. In 1977 public cell phone testing had begun. People in Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington were the first to be eligible for cell phone trials. In 1979 a company in Japan began doing cell phone testing with the public. Not until 1983 were cell phones really available. “The year 1988 changed many of the technologies that had become standard in the past. The Cellular Technology Industry Association was created to set realistic goals for cellular phone providers and research new applications for cell phone development” (Cell Phone World). In a way they still were not very accessible to the public, due to their extremely high operating cost to the consumer. Only the very wealthy could afford cell phones. Important heads of cooperation’s, movie stars, and top government officials were able to afford the luxury of a mobile phone.
With ever increasing technology it is easier and more economical to manufacture these phones. This then results in more investors entering into the market and creating more competition
Today, the cell phone has become a common device in the U.S. Almost all people in the U.S. use cell phones. By using these phones, people can be reached everywhere they go. Because of the development of technology, now there are many kinds of cell phones from different brands. Every cell phone company offers their products from the cheapest to the most expensive one with their advantages and disadvantages. So now, people can choose from many types of cell phones.
Roos (2011) stated the following information about the major milestones in mobile technology and communication: In 1946, AT&T launched its first commercial mobile telephone service. In 1947, the company used a mobile phone system from United Airline jets and a moving train to ground stations. Throughout the 1950’s, the invention of the circuit contributed significantly to make mobile phones truly portable. In the mid-1960’s, CB radios became popular among truck drivers and in 1970’s it had become popular with the general public. In 1973, Motorola released a 28-ounce portable telephone. Motorola invested 15 years of research and $100 million to develop an even smaller product. Only high paid professionals could afford this type of luxury. It took 10 years for the Federal Communications Commission to approve the mobile telephone. Motorola introduced in formally in 1983. The initial model weighed almost two pounds and costs near $4000. This amenity was only obtainable by a small number of users. The milestones listed above were taken from D. Roos’s article about
As long as I’ve lived there has always been some form of a mobile phone. Before the invention of cell phones I imagine that the world was a lot more mystery in the world. Now we can find all information on our phones. We have phone addicts who have to have their phone ...
Back in the late 70s and early 80s phones did not have cameras or web browsing or anything like that. They were basically just plastic boxes with wiring inside unlike today’s smartphones with glass touchscreens HD camcorders, video calling, and web capability, but if not for the first cellphone we would not have come so far since then. In 1973 the founder of Motorola Martin Cooper made it easier to call and chat with people and made the worlds first mobile phone. However, it was not approved by the FCC until September 21, 1983, when it became the first commercial portable cellphone. At a cost of $3,995 people thought of this as the future of communication and everyone wanted to get their hands on one though looking back on it now they might have been a little over priced compared to todays modern cellphone prices. We have come a long way since the 70s phones have become more compacted easier to take on the go and today mankind is still coming up with ever newer ways to stay close to ...
Over thirty years later, the cell phone has evolved greatly. In 2007 Steve Jobs created the first iPhone and when it was released it was the first touchscreen phone. The iPhone has become a intrical part of every day life for most of the population. Within the iPhone is a means of communication, a personal computer with access to the Internet, a place to play games and much more. Apple has sold over seven billion iPhones.
The smart phone was innovated heavily towards the late 2000’s and a lot of the newer features on them made their value skyrocket. There was a time when phones could only make calls, and even then the service was not that reliable. Eventually, companies start innovating with better resources of technology and start giving consumers more of a bargain for their dollars. The early 2000’s come around (2000-2004) and cell phones start to innovate text messaging, and some basis for PDA computing. The PDA industry did not last long because of the quick innovation ...
When this phone released, it was only available on a first come first serve basis with a limitation of two phones per customer. [1] The trademark for this phone and future iPhone developments was its home button. The iPhone 3 was completely touchscreen (other than the home button), had a metal rear casing, a 3.5-inch display, and was initially the foundation for future modern smartphones to come. [6] Apple was proud to announce that on September 10, 2007, 74 days after its release the iPhone 3 sold its 1 millionth phone. [1] iPhone was included in TIMEs All Time 100 Greatest and Most Influential Gadgets where TIME honored this original phone, not its latest model, for “the way it rocked the mobile-phone industry” (8 Years of the iPhone: An Interactive Timeline,
When phones became available to the public they were not considered to be mobile in today’s sense of the word. They were available to have installed in an automobile, they were big and bulky, and they needed and consumed a lot of power to use. The phone networks would only support a few simultaneous conversations. Cell phones since then have made vast improvements in their efficiency, abilities, and size. The first handheld mobile phone wasn’t produce until 1973. The origin...
Cell phones represent a type of technology that has been around for more than over fifty years; it has only been recently that many people began to use cell phones as a major part of their everyday life. In the past cell phones were for business people to conduct their business, but in today’s society every one owns a cell phone. Cell phones are interesting, useful and also play a major role in our life’s bringing people closer and keeping in touch with one another. Most people do not know and understand the physics of a cell phone. Cell phones are also known as cellular phone, hand phone, and commonly known as a mobile phone. A cell phone is an electric device that can make and receive calls, over and automatic repeat request (radio link petrol -RLP) used over wireless air interdace.it us a portable telephone that uses and receive phone signals.it also divides that earth into small regional called cells.in the resent estimates there are over 190 million people using mobile phone. One of the primary health concerns is the impact of cell phone radiation, by radio waves by which it operates.
In America today, owning a mobile phone is not only common, it has become the absolute normative. In fact, they are so popular that over 90% of American adults own a mobile phone, among which the vast majority own a Smartphone (Smith). Unlike their predecessor, Smartphones are not limited to simply voice based communication. They are instead a wealth of limitless information and entertainment, available all at one’s fingertips. While all of this is extremely convenient, they are also a source of distraction which is leading to more than just rude behavior; it is beginning to have an effect on the physical safety and mental health of children. Among these Smartphone users, many are the parents of young children. However, even with this enormous responsibility, there is seemingly no reduction in the number of daily hours spent on their Smartphones texting, emailing or browsing online (Smith). For many parents, the belief is that they are capable of multitask, using their Smartphone and still providing ample care for their children. The truth is though, these actions are leading to distracted and disengaged parenting and the danger it causes to children could be more than just emotionally damaging, they could be deadly.
