Nutrition Month Celebration
Last July, Life College has a celebration for Nutrition Month. The program runs like this:
In the morning, the students have a food fair, each level decorated their booth and sell cuisines. Elementary students sell nutritious food like fruit salad, pancit, eggs and etc. assisted by their parents. 1st year class was assigned to cook Seafood cuisines, 2nd year for Asia cuisines and 3rd year for World cuisines.
While the food fair is on going, chosen grade 1to 4 students participated in Poster Making Contest. It was held in the Library at 9:00 am. The contest was not that easy because they must just used their fingers and natural food color for painting. A Grade 3 Matatag student won the contest.
Aside from those activities, some of the students join the parlor games. Their activeness in the games showed that they are healthy and fit. Some of the games are Tug of War, Stop Dance and Pasa Buko.
The food cooking competition started an hour and a half before noon. Each level and section are provided a list of ingredients that they must bring and use in making appetizer, main dish, soup, dessert and beverage. When the clock struck at 12:00, the judges start to taste and grade the food that they cooked. 2nd year students got the taste of the judges and won the contest.
In the afternoon, the program is held in the Life Church auditorium. They have Quiz Bee about nutrition. You will see that all of the contestants are giving their best. 1st year Dependable got the 1st place, 3rd year A got the 2nd place and 1st year committed got the 3rd place.
After few minutes of break, the Search for A1 child 2008 started. 6 children from the Preschool Department joined the contest. They are all smart and talented. The audience cheered when they saw these children dressed with their costumes related to fruits and vegetables, sport wears, and school uniforms. The mass stood up form their chair and clapped their hands when the children showed their talents.
The children share how they also had a special toy they did not want no one to take it from them, after discussion the children had an opportunity to work on a sequence book in which they will create the story as they remember what happen. Materials were provided. A book with blank pages, crayons, markers, and characters cut out were given to each child. The children work on their book and discuss what their favorite oar tot the story was. One child mention that his favorite part was when Corduroy fell off an the security came to get him. One of the girls mentioned that she would have taken him home too, she loves teddy bears. The finished product were amazing because neither look the same, one child color the overall red and the other boy tells him his overall are green not red, the child just respond I like
The first group will be divided into two subgroups: the general student body and student athelete. Student athletes that are out of season generally play inmurals to stay competive and active during their off seasons. We would like to target them, because they are naturally drawn to competion and may provide a fan base due to player’s standing with the fans. We would like to aim at the general student body as providing oppurtinty to relax, de-stress, and entertainment on campus.

...ng, eating habit, walking and exercising. This program allowed the researcher to teach weight management lesson and skills week. All topics support the messages given in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and My Pyramid.
The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.

In the front of a fourth-grade classroom, there sits the ever-smiling face of a little girl. Each morning, this girl is the first to class, dressed neatly and appropriately, with a backpack full of supplies in order for her to be successful in the classroom. Her homework is always finished, and her parents always make sure she is doing her reading, and trying for excellent grades. The constant efforts of the child in the classroom, and her perpetual kindness to all of her peers has persuaded the teacher into being impressed with the little girl’s work this year. According to the Centers for Disease Control, “Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years,” meaning that America’s children need to start eating healthier, including healthier school lunches. The National School Lunch Act is a fairly recent addition to American society. For, as the world waged war a second time, the United States began to worry about the strength and health of the country’s soldiers. However, in the beginning, selling excess agricultural goods was more important than building a healthy, well-balanced meal for students. Unfortunately, many children coming from poorer families could not afford well-balanced school lunches, so in order to compensate, the School Lunch Program changed its focus to help these students. This program, however, decreased schools’ lunch budgets, and schools had a hard time keeping up with the amount of free meals they had to provide, so they came up with some extra ways to increase revenue. However, in a small town in Massachusetts, one chef makes a difference in the health of the school lunch students eat each day, and proves that hiring a trained chef to cook real, healthy meals can increase profit. Unfortunately, that is not the case in most schools across the nation. The quality of health of the food being served in school lunches is extremely poor and was allowed to decline even more with a new set of rule changes. ...arable interaction between nutrition and exercise, and I appreciate a program that challenges students to see how different areas of health intersect and connect. In addition to this solid foundation of public health knowledge, George Washington’s one-on-one mentorship opportunities and customizable field and research experiences allows students to develop the skills necessary to succeed in their specific area of interest. The university’s location also provides access to a wide range of organizations, agencies, and policymakers, and the chance to work with these groups would give me unparalleled insight into public health policy. George Washington’s public health program strives to fully prepare students for successful careers in public health, and I hope to use the knowledge and experience from the program to reduce the impact of eating disorders on public health.
Keeping track of what I ate for three days forced me to be held accountable. Few people realize just what they eat on a daily basis. Seeing the food log and the analysis helped me have a better understanding of what I put into my body and what my body needs on a daily basis as far as energy and nutrients. The analysis gave a summary for calories, food groups, and nutrients, both macro and micronutrients.
For that day the students participated in their community based instruction lesson. The community based instruction lessons help the students practice and learn life skills that they will need such as cooking, how to shop at a store, how to pay for something at the checkout lines at stores, and how to behave in a restaurant. For their community based instruction for that day the students were learning how to behave in a restaurant and were taken to an Italian restaurant to practice how to behave and what to do while they are there. The teacher went through the steps of what to do when you are at a restaurant (enter the restaurant, follow the hostess to the table, sit properly in your seat, order your drinks when they waiter asks what you would like, etc.). The teacher put the students into groups of four with who they will be sitting with at their tables in the restaurant. The teacher practiced with the students by going over to each group and asked them what they would like. This taught the students how to be polite to the server (saying hello, having eye contact with the server, saying “yes please” and “thank you”, etc.) and how to order their drinks and food. The students also had note cards that they had filled out and the note cards had what they want to drink and what they want to eat. These note cards
