Juvenile Crimes and Solutions

When we turn on the television, how many times do we see a report mentioning a juvenile in trouble with the law? I see this quite a lot, especially in urban areas. The ages and races of these offenders range anywhere from 9 years old, all the way to 17. But what is the cause of these troubled youths and the reason they commit these crimes? Well, according to
Craig and Glick (http://www.yale.edu/ynhti/curriculum/units/2000/2/00.02.07.x.html#h), there are three causes behind juvenile delinquency. These are 1) careless or inadequate supervision by the mother or surrogate mother; 2) erratic or overly strict discipline; and 3) lack of cohesiveness of the family unit. A more strict and firm discipline action can be taken to help reduce a child becoming delinquent.

So what are some of the crimes that juveniles commit? Well, in some instances, that depends on the area and the teens upbringing as well as their surroundings. For instance, a lower class, African American teen, who is known for hanging around people who steal, will more than likely turn out to become a thief. While a Caucasian teen, who lives in the country and has a bad temper, will more than likely be arrested for assault or similar violent crime.
According to a report from an online website
(http://shesabutterfly.hubpages.com/hub/Juvenile-Delinquency-Crimes), over a quarter of juveniles arrested are caught for property crimes, while nearly a quarter of teens arrested are caught for violent offenses. It was also noted that a lot of these crimes are committed around the times that the juveniles are getting out of school.

...the lives of the youth in our families. Whether it’s a brother, sister, son, daughter, niece, etc. That way, they see they have a strong support system to be there for them. Also, reach out to them when we see and pick up on the signs. If we cannot help them, try to get help as soon as possible for them. Always remember that a juvenile will do what they see because they will think it is right and that they will think it is cool, especially if their peers, older siblings and even parents do it, so be sure to be very positive in their lives and make an impact where you can monitor what they are doing from a distance but not too far. If these do not work, there are programs like Beyond Scared Straight, in which is like a shock incarceration for juveniles. With this program, there has been a high turn around rate with youths who have committed delinquent acts.
