Child abuse is very common in the United States. You see it on social media sites, on the news, people talk about it, and maybe you have been a victim of child abuse. Child abuse is a terrible thing. had a bad day. Who would want to hurt a child just because you are angry or having a bad day? It is not their fault that you or are just a horrible person. They almost always walk on “eggshells.” Some parents lash out in anger, meaning the parents act out of anger and the desire to make sure they are in control. The parents who are physically abusive may believe that their children need to fear them in order to behave. Other cases of abuse are: holding the child under water, burning or scalding the child, tying the child up, throwing an object at them, starving them or failing to provide a child with food, and locking them in a closet. Also, shaking baby syndrome is the most common form of physical child abuse. It is the leading cause of death in child abuse. Even though it only lasts a few seconds, that causes death or brain damage. Anything that interferes failing to provide medical care when a child is injured or sick, or knowing that you are putting them in a dangerous situation. One in five reported having been left alone at a time when a parent should have been supervising them on three or more occasions. About fourteen percent reported having been physically assaulted (slapped, kicked, or hit) three or more times. One in 20 reported having been left without basic needs (food, clothing, or cleaning) three or more times. About 1 in 25 (4.5%) report having been sexually abused by a parent or guardian on three or more instances by the time they entered the sixth grade (Hussey, Chang, & Kotch, 2006).
Child abuse in the United States is a growing epidemic. Every year the number of reported cases, and missing children go up. This is caused mostly by lack of education about the different types of child abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Communities need to provide more resources to better educate the public about the types of abuse, and the signs that go along with it. Child abuse and neglect can be lessened by more resources, more education and to reach out to others.
