In order to live a holy life by avoiding evil and doing good, there are several things that we must do. First, we must love God with our whole strength and follow the Laws which He has laid down for us. Going against the law of God is a sin, thus Catholics should avoid sin to their best ability. It is difficult to keep our minds focused on God’s love for us and our love for Him in return, especially in the modern world. People are surrounded by temptation to sin every single day. We see pathways leading people to sin through things on television, articles in magazines, photos on the internet, and music on the radio. Within the system of justice in which the friars operate, it is not only just, but necessary, to sin by lying and deceiving, in order for love and harmony to prevail. It then becomes a question of not whether these holy men abuse Christian dogma, but of their intent behind the deceit. Thus "craft against vice" is the powerful system which allows for discrepancy concerning sin in order to combat the havoc caused by deception by evil intent.
Roman Catholics believe that through the sacrament of confession the Lord will forgive the sins that they have committed. The Priest acts as an intercessor for Christ; he hears the sins that the Catholic has committed then with the power he receives from Jesus is able to forgive the sins (catholic.org). Adultery is a horrible sin to commit, but it can actually be avoided, although many people in today's society respond differently based on their religion and culture. When a person commits adultery they fail in keeping his/her commitment to their partner. When adultery happens the trust is broken in the relationship and the other person will feel deceived and betrayed.
Tyler Perry’s Temptation highlights the struggles presented to a young African American woman whose strong Christian beliefs counteract a sin stricken society. The main character, Judith, attempts to overcome the difficult obstacles that were placed in her path by fighting the sexual urges that she craves. Judith came to realize that her urges began to transform from wants and desires to real actions; Judith’s deepest desires were becoming reality. The encounters Judith faced on a daily basis began as an emotional and mental attraction that led to a more physical relationship. These continuous urges began to take over Judith’s well-being as she began to fall more and more into the depths of sinful behavior. The idea of sexual freedom consumed Judith’s mind and spirit which turned her against her own religious beliefs, and eventually lead her down a path that she would regret for the rest of her life.
