The Danish Container Ship called Svendborg Maersk was departed from Rotterdam, the Netherlands on 13 February 2014 at exactly 1530H to Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Container Ship was sailing on its way to Suez, Canal and subsequently going to Far East. The Master expected that the weather condition on the route is worst but the ship was prepared in accordance with the crew members’ experience and the company’s heavy wheather checklist. The Master of Svendborg Maersk is not in the wrong; he comes with the problem with full composure and is at the right. A person given terrible circumstance due to the miscalculations of the forecasted weather that was predicted in the area, Let us start with what he was capable of achieving thanks to his calm and collected means to not only lessen the damage the vessel had to suffer when experience the violent …show more content…
The chief officer was facilitating the crew members that were to muster on a deck and the second engineer had mustered in the engine control room. A possibility of abandoning ship by bringing their immersion suits; assuring him that all members were safe and sound. He even had the foresight to not to seek shelter because turning the ship around alone would bring some variations when there are rapid waves present. Only when weather conditions slightly improved did the master decide to repeal the mustering. He even gave the effort to remain on the bridge for the rest of the day and only took rest on the 16th. As far as I am concerned this alone shows he did that entire he could do with the given situation. There is also the mistake that the predicted forecast provided to him was not completely accurate, that may not have been the intention of those that provided this information as weather forecasts do not give a complete guarantee as to what may come to occur when on voyage. There is also an issue regarding the state of what was used to contain the

I personally found this book to be an excellent read, and while I haven’t read to many business management books. I can feel safe to say that I think this one does an excellent job in conveying key management principals for today’s workplace. It also appealed to me due to my fascination with the way in which our military operates. I believe he did a great job of staying clear of getting too detailed in either is leadership model and military jargon. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels intimidated by management books that read more like a textbook, who want to learn but also enjoy the reading too.

Ship out to sea – had doubts but sent it out anyways (avoided error). James belief would react differently following the method of knowing the truth- which could have drove to the decision of either (passionate about either the welfare of the passengers or the destination of the cargo) depending on ones individual ethic. Despite the doubts of the boats safety- ship owner muted the ideas with past events of successful trips-on insufficient evidence. The authority of the mechanic over the authority of communal rumors.
The picture of the crewmen; Michael Moran, Dale Murphy, Alfred Pierre, Robert Shatford, david Sullivan and Frenky Billy Tyne Jr. on the Boat shows the viewer how they had to dress everyday to work and what they would have been wearing when the boat capsized and sank but the bodies were never found. This picture shows the imagery of how life as a fishermen would look like on the open seas. This also gives insight to how the ranking of the crewmen worked captian telling the fishermen what to do depending on the
The decision making process that was observed in this film was the captain of the team taking a stand and becoming the leader of the group to help everything run smoothly. He took over and made sure everyone who needs help was helped. He also got everyone together to search for any surviving passengers and to start looking for was to get help. Individuals had to put their own pride and fear aside in order for others to survive in the harsh conditions they were in. With the weather and amount of people they had to dig up clothing from any luggage close by. They band together to scramble for food and water, they used their resources to provide themselves with the necessi...
However, the Titanic continued at 20 knots, which was almost her highest speed. This was because the ship had a very strict time schedule to maintain. Combined with the fact that it was a moonless night, it meant that when an iceberg was spotted, it did not have enough time to avoid the collision. About 15 minutes before the Titanic collided with the iceberg, A Ship named the Californian tried to warn Captain Smith that they were surrounded by Ice. The wireless operator of the Californian, Cyril F. Evans, called up the Titanic and said “We are stopped and surrounded by ice.” Captain Smith replied by saying “shut up, shut up, I am busy; I am working Cape Race” . The US senate found Smith at fault for the tragedy, “for taking the Titanic at such speeds is such treacherous conditions”. Once the iceberg had been spotted, the crew could have responded differently, thus saving the Titanic from her demise. The officer on watch, First Officer William Murdoch, ordered a “Full astern” after the iceberg was seen. At

... ground and commented that the kind of training was not part of the agenda and that LTC Holland was too low and banking over too hard, but he did not take inmediate action to this respect. Besides this observations from these senior leaders no action was taken. Despite the regulations that were established, the two senior officers lack of moral courage to say that LTC Howard was acting wrong that day. One of them should take the decition to stop the B-52 pilot. As we can see, moral courage is very important and in this situation could save the live of the B-52 tripulation, but, It did not happen. Nobody claimed for something fair (stopping LTC Holland actions). Col Pellerin and LTC Holland did not act within morale standars. Finally there was no cohesion in this group and there was lack of confidence to tell that one element from the organization was acting wrong.
26, 1956, a time charter-party was signed between the owner, Hongkong Fir Shipping Co Ltd and the charterer, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha Ltd for a period of 24 calendar months of hiring. The vessel was delivered at Liverpool to pick up her voyage at Newport News, than to proceed via the Panama Canal to Osaka. The whole sail was expected in about two months while Osaka was not reached until May 25, about five weeks after the expected date. The delay was due to the unseaworthiness of the vessel. And the reason for this unseaworthiness was the insufficiency and incompetence of the crew. The seaworthiness was required in Clause 1 of the charter-party contract by expressly stating in this way:”……she being in every way fitted for ordinary cargo service .”According to this term, which the defendant believed it was a condition, the charterer wrote to the owner cancelling the
Some of the biggest challenges include a potential strike by 600 pilots. This was because Norwegian was planning on outsourcing its flight staff to Thailand and elsewhere. I believe that the biggest challenges Norwegian Air face had to deal with the other competitors in the aviation business creating problems for Norwegian Airlines.
These actions that the captains has made on several occasions was foreshadow to the insecurities and self-doubt that would lead him to endanger his crew, and thoroughly depict the prevailing theme throughout the novella. The theme that was displayed underlined the significance of confidence and the art of acting knowledgeable and trust worthy, in order to remain in control and live up to the expectations that your peers have given you when they put their lives into your hands. The self doubt that the captain displayed led to the ignorant decisions that endangered his crews lives, if the captain did not display this self doubt, and obtain the murderer Leggatt, then his role of captain would have been flawless, and have preserved the lives of his crew better on the most part. Self-doubt leads to ignorance.
M.P could have been the one to want to destroy the Titanic. He wasn't on the ship himself that is a little suspicious. Cancelling last minute to ride the biggest ship of all time, let alone his creation, that just does not seem correct. Many high class people cancelled last minute, could he have warned them about going on the ship that it was going to sink because he had a plan? Could he have known that there was an iceberg there somehow, or got a bad feeling of going on the
The captain of the Titanic received warnings of icebergs in the area on April 14, 1912. Despite the warnings, Captain Edward John Smith continued sailing the Titanic at full speed until an iceberg was spotted directly in front of the ship. Captain Murdoch quickly steered left to change the course but the collision was inevitable. Impact from the blow caused
