Born September 16 1997, Taylor Hebert was welcomed into a Caucasian, French Northern New Brunswick family. Already earning a status that is accompanied with many stereotypes, Taylor was a “maritimer”. Nonetheless she was part of a loving family of her two parents Marilyn and Michael who were devoted to providing her with an ideal lifestyle filled with opportunities. Growing up, Taylor lived a typical suburban lifestyle; she attended church every Sunday, was driven to school by her parents, went to Disneyland by the age of 6, and considered her parents to be her best friends. Her family openly portrayed their values and beliefs; believing in a higher power and valuing family and education. Taylor was a well behaved child who loved school and …show more content…

Free of any charges or statements of infraction on her criminal record, Taylor was introduced with a clean slate. Her parents made the decision to enroll her in a Christian school within the city in attempt to introduce her to new social groups who held the same beliefs and values as her family. Reluctant at first, and denying any offer of help, Taylor slowly began to build back the relationship with her parents. The school introduced many new opportunities to Taylor; she was encouraged to interact with new groups, participate in at least one extracurricular activity, and maintain at least a 60% grade average. With this push for improvement, Taylor grew increasingly aware of who she desired to be and underwent another identity change due to her new environment and social groups she was now interacting with. The opportunities presented from this institution allowed Taylor to experiment with hobbies and extracurricular activates as she joined the cast for the musical, began playing softball, joined the student union, and volunteered within a hospital. The manifest function of this institution is to provide an education however the school did much more for Taylor; it provided her the resources she needed to excel in areas she never had before, her new friends accepted her despite her past, and she was able to rekindle distant relationships made within her

Taylor kind of seems like an adult figure to Jade Dragon because she stays with Jade Dragon to make sure she is okay. A lot of times when someone loses their parents of a guardian someone else steps in to be a parent figure, or someone to watch over them.
Taylor had a goal, a reason to achieve it, had many challenges along the way and in the end found her reason to thrive. Had Taylor stayed in town, there is a good chance she would have followed the rest of her peers, getting pregnant ad married without any thought to the world outside. Taylor Greer learned that she could rise above small town culture, be herself and thrive. This can be a lesson to readers and critics that life is a quest, and the most important part of it is our development and to find our place in the

“Emotional regulation can lead to more fulfilling social experiences. Children of the same age argue on about the same socio-cognitive and moral level, face the same transitions and life events. These similarities are expected to improve their understanding of their peers’ situation, perhaps to some extent independent of inter-individual differences due to level of development, personality, or upbringing. The second reason follows from the fact that peers form a group. Being together with a group of likeminded peers should intensify some of the emotions children experience.” (Salisch, 2001) The group they formed was a good social experience for them. Without the group I think the boys would not have gone on to do great things if they had not had the
At the beginning of the novel, Taylor is intensely independent. She stands apart from the other high school girls at Pittman County. She is the only girl not wearing “beige or pink Bobbie Brooks matching sweater-and-skirt outfits” (5). She is determined to avoid teenage pregnancy, which is so common in her high school. She is the only girl brave enough to ask the science teacher for a job. Taylor believes that she can survive on her own. She finds herself a rickety car. It is a ’55 Volkswagen bug “with no windows to speak of, and no seat and no starter” (11-12). She learns how to push start it all by herself. Her mother helps her to be independent and to conquer her fears. Mrs. Greer lets the air out of one of the tires and also the spare, forcing Taylor to pump the tire herself despite her fear of exploding tires. Taylor learns that “nobody was goi...
Tracy Freeland in Thirteen is the epitome of a person going through the stages of adolescence. All of the surroundings you grow up in affect and help shape the person you become. In Tracy’s case, her identity was formed by her choices with her new friends, and how she chose to explore that new world. It can be seen throughout this film how easily adolescents are influenced by those around them when deciding the type of person they want to be in adulthood. References Berk, L. E. (2011).
“I always knew I wanted to be a teacher,” she stated. Her passion for helping children with special needs was developed at a later age. The reason why Chris decided to be a special education teacher was because of two twin boys in her grade who had special needs. Chris was only in kindergarten at the time, but she recalls that one of these boys did not get to go to school. The other boy, Jimmy, could come to school, but he would have to leave halfway through the school day. Chris was confused and upset about how Jimmy could not be at school and asked her mom about this. The reason why Jimmy and his brother were not at school was because there was no special education program. This moment, even though she was in kindergarten, shaped Chris’s plan for her
...onsequence of her having zero interaction with other humans, this child was not aware of any social qualities. From the example of feral children, we can reasonably infer that socialization and nurture are key ingredients in a child’s development.

I first lived in Fremont, CA with only my parents because my siblings were not yet born. I only lived in Fremont for the first two years of my life, so I do not believe it made much of a social impact on me. The book suggests, however, that these two years were essential for my development of trust with my parents (Welsh, 2012). In 1999, my parents and I moved to Columbia, Maryland where my Ryan was soon born. The community in Maryland was predominantly Caucasian and had a relatively small population. Because of this, I was only exposed to a limited number of peers during “Early Childhood” which is where children begin to develop social end emotional skills (Welsh,
