Japan has laws that set high standards for the physical working conditions of employees, as well as for the recruitment of Japanese employees. Tesla will have to adapt their recruiting practices in order to adhere to their host country’s outlined standards. Tesla’s best option for recruiting employees in their host country, at least in their initial wave, will be through the government-run employment agency called “Hello Work.” This agency, with offices located throughout Japan, connects employers in various industries with potential employees and only collects fees when an individual is successfully hired (“Overview of Withholding”). Like most companies, they have training programs such as new employee orientation programming, legally mandated training programs (ie: diversity, safety, etc.), and specialized training for certain functions like sales and lean manufacturing. All managers and supervisors receive dedicated training in communication, leadership and team management in order to create the most effective and cohesive working environment with the impression of a flat structure. According to Glassdoor.com, employees receive customized health insurance plans where Tesla also pays out the remainder of the amount the employee does not use. Tesla also gives employees an option for a 401k plan, but Tesla can adjust this option to fit Japan’s equivalent of America’s 401k plan. Tesla also gives employees 10 paid holidays off in the United States, which should be translated into Japanese holiday’s when including that in the employee
