The first recommendation for Under Armour is that they should build on its relationship with veterans and first responders. In order to do this they should continue to offer the ten percent discount to these groups. Additionally Under Armour will develop a marketing campaign that appeals to veterans and first responders, and builds Under Armour’s reputation as the brand that supports those that support us. The second recommendation for Under Armour is that they should develop a shoe line and marketing campaign for women, based on the idea of everyday athlete. The first step is to identify influencers that can be used as spokesmen for the campaign. Under Armour should target individuals such as Melissa Stockwell; in 2004 “Stockwell was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army” when “she became the first female soldier to lose a limb when a roadside bomb exploded near her unarmored Humvee claiming her left leg.” Stockwell has become a world-class athlete competing in the Paralympics in 2008 and then winning three gold metals in the 2010 ITU Triathlon World Championships (Marie). Under Armour can create an ad campaign playing off of their 2003 “Protect this House” ad campaign with a “Protect this Country” message showing Stockwell and firefighters from around the country in Under Armour …show more content…
The Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association has projected that revenues from athletic footwear will grow at a rate of 5.1% (Wheelen, Hunger, Hoffman, & Bamford, 2015, 2012, 2010). Under Armour should target at least this 5% growth rate in its footwear segment Under Armour has always set aggressive targets for themselves and they should not change that now. The leadership team believes that “a 3% share of the (athletic footwear) market would nearly double UA’s total revenue” (Wheelen, Hunger, Hoffman, & Bamford, 2015, 2012, 2010), and this should be another one of the metrics that Under Armour monitors and grows. Finally Under Armour needs to implement better monitoring and control of its stock levels. Under Armour has been forced to cut prices in the past do to being overstocked. Improving supply chain management and shorting the turn around time on order both to retailers and from suppliers is going to be key in preventing this from happening again. Upside supply chain flexibility measures the amount of time that it would take for suppliers to react to an unplanned increase in sales, monitoring this metric will ensure the necessary improvements are being
Overall, Under Armor did an outstanding job targeting young, aspiring athletes to do what they want to do with their life. They used logic to show how hard the athletes work along with emotion to show how serious they take their training. Finally, Under Armor used the credibility of the athletes to sell their new training shoe. This commercial will make anyone want to purchase a pair of shoes and workout themselves. Since the commercial is on such a serious level, viewers emotionally connect with it which makes Under Armor seem like the best brand

Under Armour uses pathos as well to sell their product. The way Under Armour’s ad sells is almost the same as Adidas. Under Armour’s ad creates a message that all of the greatest athletes had to work hard to get where they are now. The ad is also trying to convince the audiences that their product is what will help to be a better athlete. They also use the famous athlete to convince the audience that their products will make them become great, as well as, get their money.
Since 1998, Lululemon has transformed the way people dress to workout. Through innovative products and technical athletic fabrics, a brand was created to provide clothing for workouts such as yoga, running and cycling. Lululemon opened its first store in Vancouver in 2000 with the plan to have the store be a community hub for people to learn and discuss their physical fitness and overall health goals. As Lululemon was more than a store to provide products for consumers, their goal was to influence every person who walked into the store. A basic criterion for investment is Lululemon’s mission to create components for people to live longer, healthier, fun lives. All Lululemon locations maintain strong relationships with local communities and host in-store events such as complimentary yoga classes and goal-setting workshops.

American Eagle Outfitters is a fairly new company but they are doing extremely well because they have a clear grasp of who their target market is. They posses a fresh new hip look with great quality clothing at a reasonable price for consumers (http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gte201w/aeostrat.html). This is one of the main reasons why teenagers and young adults are so attracted to the company. American Eagle is aiming to appeal not only to the targeted 20 year old but also consumers between the ages of 16 and 34 years old. This will widen the gap between their major competitors because they are trying to appeal to more segments than just one. American Eagle seeks to be assessable, fashion orientated, and has a strong value proposition, which has allowed the company to thrive and take shares from competitors over the past five years. Not only is their clothing line very comfortable, bold and fresh, the store layout and atmosphere is also major key factors in American Eagle’s success over the recent years. AE also has a strong competitive advantage because of their short lead times and their ability to position themselves in high-visibility, high-profile locations in key markets. American Eagle’s cycle time is about five months from design to delivery, versus about nine months for The Gap and six months for Abercrombie. AEOS minimizes lead times by maintaining sourcing relationships with a few key manufacturers and producing much of the merchandise in North America, versus 9% for The Gap and a minimal amount for Abercrombie. AEOS has the ability to quick-source some of its simpler product categories in order to react quickly to sales trends. (http...
Nike’s focus for fashion forward women is the following: lead the athleisure trend, increase advertising, and the introduce the #BetterForIt social media campaign. We need to focus on the athleisure trend by increasing our portfolio for the women target market. Athleisure is already 20% of the firm’s revenue and we need to recognize that women are leading this fashion movement. Under Armor and Lululemon are already making headways in this fashion focused market. We need to emphasize our athletic technologies, promoting lighter fabrics and better performance, while still maintaining a level of comfort and fashionability. Increasing the portfolio means nothing if women don’t know we’ve done just that. Nike will need to increase advertising specifically with this target market in mind. The #BetterForIt campaign is one important aspect of these advertising efforts. Similar campaigns should promote and help “normalize” athletic wear in everyday

Nike’s positioning in the market has more of a mass appeal compared to their main competitor Adidas who strive to make products for elite athletes. The positioning strategy for Nike is currently working at a satisfactory level as Nikes global annual sales between 2013-2014 was reported as 27.8 billion (Statista, 2014) compared to Adidas’ 19.95 billion (Statista, 2014). The global market for sports apparel is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 4% between 2012-2019, Nikes compound annual growth rate during 2010-2012 was 12.3% which is an excellent result as the brand’s growth was larger than the market as well as outgrowing Nike’s closest competitors Adidas, Puma and Asics (Forbes,
