Therefore, consumers in larger families may not be heavy users of ready meals, where the importance of freshly cooked meals is still dominant. However, consumers in smaller households still form a precious part of the target group for ready meals.
The results show that changing lifestyle i.e. more stressful and chaotic lives due to long working hours, is a significant contributing factor in the growth of ready meals sector. The reasons provided by the respondents, mainly working women, were that they purchase ready meals to avoid the problems of cooking in their busy schedule.
In the case of students and working men, “do not know how to cook” or “time saving” are the factors that make them inclined towards the purchase of ready meals, as they are quick and easy to prepare.

In Michael Pollan’s “The End of Cooking” shares the message of what we are losing something important in this day and age because of all our pre-made and processed foods. This can be compared with Kothari’s “If You Are What You Eat, What Am I?” and her argument that food is part of one’s own identity. By using the examples from these two texts you can analyze the state of food and culture in the United States today. All of the processed and pre-made foods are causing people all across America to lose their sense of Culture. We no longer know what it’s like to make one of our cultures specialty dishes from scratch which can help people identify with their culture. This process helped newer generations see what it was like for those before them to cook on a daily basis and could help them identify your sense of culture.

In the article, “A Food Manifesto for the Future”, Mark Bittman makes his claim on how our American diet is unhealthy and unsafe towards our bodies and the environment as well. Within his piece, he includes multiple suggestions that could be implemented towards the foundation of a healthier, and safer diet. Since most of us, depend on the dining halls for food, we don’t necessarily think about what we eat; we just eat what’s available (Mei). Some students on campus, however, actually don’t get the luxury of often going to the dining halls, usually because of the type of meal plan they chose. Even without having an accessible dining hall, college students could still make their own meals without the use of processed foods. The working class, lower class, and children are mainly attracted through fast food marketing methods. These methods enable continuous growth within the fast food industry, and allow for it to be a staple for these socioeconomic groups. It will be mainly focusing towards understanding the importance of various factors affecting the choice and the need of fast food outlets by Indian young consumers. Also, it aims to study the consumption pattern towards fast foods particularly with respect to the frequency of visits and choice of fast food outlets.
