Introduction
The campus bookstore is where many students go to buy snacks, lunch, and beverages. It is only one of two available options on-campus. The other option is to buy food and drinks from the café. However, the store only sells hot food and full meals. It is also hard for students to know what the nutritional content of each item they are buying contains. Understanding the nutritional content in food and drinks is important for maintaining a healthy diet. To help track what nutrients are consumed the Nutrition Facts label was created by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. It was then required for food and drinks to come with a nutrition facts label in the 1990s. The nutrition facts label is based on what the FDA recommends

Carbohydrates are a good source for energy. However, the body can only burn a certain amount of carbs before those carbs are stored and are turned into fat. Figure 4
Nuts & Seeds had the least amount of carbohydrates. Again, pastries had the most amount of carbs. At this point it would be best to avoid eating pastries.
Pastries and Sandwiches have the highest percentage of total fats. Figure 5 also shows that candy and snacks have the least amount of total fats.
Eating Nuts & Seeds and select chips would be the best option. A reason why the chips remained low is because their serving sizes were lower than other food products. They also included “healthy” chips like Kale chips.
Figure 5
The campus store also sells several different drinks as well. Unlike, food, the drinks did not contain a significant amount of fats, therefore, fats were not accounted for.
Drinks are one the easiest ways to overconsume calories, sugar, and carbs. Drinking does not enable the stomach to feel full, so it can be hard to know when to stop

Surprisingly, the store had quite a few energy drinks that had little to no calories. This can be seen in Figure 6.
Figure 6
Drinking low calorie energy drinks would be better than drinking protein shakes. Unless, a person is active enough to burn the amount of calories in protein shakes they should avoid them.
Soda had less calories than coffee drinks and this is due to that fact that some of the coffee drinks had crème or were flavored. Despite not having the highest amount of calories, it did have the most sugar. As seen in Figure 7.
Figure 7
The protein shakes had the least of amount of sugar which is interesting given that fact that it had the most calories. Energy drinks have relatively low amounts of sugar as well, thanks to the zero calorie energy drinks. However, this could also be due to the fact that nutrition labels on 20 oz. soda bottles were 1 serving and labels on energy drinks were 2 servings even though they were in one can. Drinks have carbohydrates even though it may seem like they do not have carbs. This is why it is important to check label. One of the first images that comes to mind when people think of carbs is bread or pasta. But, carbs can still come in liquid
This is a no-nonsense drink," Sperber said. It is not a fashion statement. It doesn't have a cool name; it is just a simple grab-and-go product to help busy adults when they can't afford a letdown." Each 2-ounce bottle contains zero grams of sugar, about the same amount of caffeine as in a small coffee, and 4 calories. This drink also contains about a dozen ingredients that have been broken down into vitamin B, and the manufacturer lists it as the “energy blend.”

Most alcoholic drinks are not composed solely of pure alcohol. Beer, wine, mixed drinks, spritzers, cocktails, and frozen drinks all contain additional ingredients and additives that often add lots of sugar and calories to your drink. To keep sugar levels balanced, use diet sodas, plain club soda, or water as mixers, and for some kick, add a spritz of lemon or lime to taste. If you enjoy the flavor of liquor on its own, try ordering your drink neat or on the rocks. If liquor is not your drink of choice, opt for light beers and steer clear of sweet dessert wines.
... like tuna, mackerel, and salmon. some dairy products, orange juice, soy milk, and some cereals. The only mineral that was the least of the 100% recommended by my DRI was potassium, Which I plan to get from bananas like I stated before, avocados and cantaloupe.
Monster beverages have always been, and still claim to be free of preservatives, caffeine, sodium, artificial flavors and colors. Although many people believe that all energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and are not healthy, the company’s mission statement which has not changed since Jan 5th, 2012 when the company changed its name, states otherwise.
¨ Chocolate milk has 18 total grams of sugar (12 grams of lactose naturally found in all white milk and 6 grams of actual added sugar),¨ According to the Western Dairy Association, the fifteenth leading milk producer in the U.S. On the other hand, sports drinks and colas have almost three times the amount of added sugar. Cola has nine teaspoons of added sugar and sports drinks have about seven teaspoons of added sugar, according to Melissa Dobbins a Nutrients. This proves that kids are not obese because they drink chocolate milk, but, because they drink beverages with mountains of fattening ingredients. This proves that chocolate milk does not cause obesity but colas and sport drinks
Nutrition experts in the United States and Canada have a list of standards with four list values. These list values are called the Dietary Reference Intakes. The DRI committee sets these values for vitamins, minerals, calories, and nutrients. These nutrients include fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber, and water. These list values measure the nutrient intakes of healthy people, and its major goal is to help prevent chronic diseases.
Nuts (I eat almonds and raw peanut butter, but most of the nuts are similar in nutrition facts).
A food label is a source of advertising a food product. Manufacturers try their best to make their product food label as attractive as possible, by using bright colours, bold text, food claims, and a lot of information. Too much information on a food label might have caused a lot of painful headaches for consumers; but it's all worth it, due to many health and nutrition problems. By law, manufacturers must abide by the standard code terms of what is put on their food label. By this, a food label must have no false claims or information, be in English and legible and easy to see. Also must contain a barcode, name of food, list of ingredients in descending order of weight, net weight, any additives in the food, country of origin, use of imported ingredients, name and address of manufacturer, date marking and nutrition panel if any claims are made.
Carbohydrates are biomolecules that consist of a chain or ring of carbon atoms attached to hydrogen and oxygen atoms. The simplest formula for carbohydrates is (CH2O)n. Carbohydrates are important to organisms for a variety of reasons. They are used to form the structural components of the cell, aid in energy storage, and serve as intermediary compounds for more complex molecules. Carbohydrates are classified as either monosaccharides, disaccharides, or polysaccharides. Both monosaccharides and disaccharides dissolve easily in water. Carbohydrates are produced in plants through the process of photosynthesis and animals obtain these carbohydrates by eating the plants. ("BIO 1510 Laboratory Manual," 2016)

Research from the 1980-90s shows sports drinks help minimise fatigue during longer-term exercise. Since then, these drinks have been extensively used with great effect in “endurance” athletic events. A 600-millilitre bottle of the sports drink Powerade, for instance, contains the energy equivalent of 30 minutes of walking or 10 to 15 minutes of jogging. That much energy content can be very useful for someone aiming to improve exercise performance, but it’s not useful for people who aren’t highly active and are already eating a normal diet.
The first step is to understand the effects of sugary drinks on the human body. Daines states that, “Many factors contribute to obesity, but there’s one pernicious one: added sugar” (632). Consumption of sugary drinks alone has held an increasing placement in our daily eating routine. As stated in A Tax That Invests in Our Health, “We consume about 300 calories more a day than we did 30 years ago, and most of those calories come from sugar-sweetened sodas, energy drinks or fruit-flavored drinks” (632).
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are good for you and what they do to help the body function.
