Nishat Hotel was the first thing that I started off in Pakistan. I developed an interest in hospitality when I came back from the London after graduating in International Relations from London School of Economics. I soon realized that Hospitality industry that me more than IR so we started a small boutique hotel with sixty-five rooms. The idea was to give such an interior aesthetic, food and quality service that when one walks in he feels like he can be anywhere in the world. Stepping into Nishat Hotel would make you feel that you could be at any of the modern day hotels in the developed world. The response we got is tremendous. It runs at a hundred percent occupancy. Soon after this, we started with the Emporium mall. The idea came from Uncle Mansha. The land was bought at an auction and the whole mall was planned afterwards. What is your secret to developing a winning team and how do you manage their performance?
Maintain an environment that is conducive to attain what you aim for. And there should be a lot of team building activities. We just had a cricket match and now we are going to have a soccer match. At the fun factory, we have days allotted for the employees to take their kids there. For all of this, we have a fixed budget so these are not once in a lifetime kind of practices instead we aim to maintain these.
How do you manage stress?
I exercise and offer Namaz. My mother always taught me that religion helps to calm your nerves. So I start off my day with exercise and through the day Namaz helps me manage stress.

It requires a great effort of teamwork and trust among each other. As stated in HBR article “Managing Teams for High Performance”, “A team is a small number of people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, set of performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable.” [1] We can easily see that team Varsity didn’t mix up well and were critical of one another’s performance. Their individual performance being better than team performance clearly proved that there was some dysfunction in the team. Coach P. decided to evaluate them based on leadership skills and found that most of the Varsity team members were team disruptors instead of team builders.
