When this interview/notebook activity was assigned, I was very uneasy with the fact that I would be interviewing a stranger about her child. Before meeting with Megan Lindley, I was extremely nervous for what to expect, and even how she, her husband, and her birthing coach would act with me there. Going up to the front door of Megan’s house was one of the scariest things that I have ever had to do, nevertheless, I did it with a positive attitude and prayed to the Lord that she would be very open and willing to answer the questions I had for her. Megan answered the door and greeted me with a genuine smile. Immediately, she started asking me questions, which was such a relief because I had no idea how I was going to begin my interviewing process. After introductions had gone around, Megan and I had a great conversation about Hannah, her seven month daughter, which was a wonderful transition into some of the questions that I was going to be asking her. Due to my lack of knowledge of pregnancy and birth- which has greatly increased since conducting this interview- I asked Megan all of the sample questions provided on the notebook activity sheet, and once I became more comfortable, I started asking some
Megan’s concern for Hannah’s wellbeing started as soon as she found out that she was pregnant, so she began drinking more water, however, because her tastebuds were not functioning properly, water tasted like metal to her, which always made her feel nauseous. One very strange, but incredible thing that Megan shared was that she never vomited during her pregnancy, she only felt nauseous. During this time in her pregnancy, Megan began reading Supernatural Childbirth, and mentioned that it helped her find Biblical scriptures to support her need to stay in a healthy
That same night, I walked by Hannah’s cell and I saw her staring down at a newspaper clip out of a young teenager shaking hands with another man. I recognized that the boy was the man who visited today. Could he be Hannah’s son? If he is, then why hadn’t he visit her all this time? Hannah brushed her fingers across the books on her shelf, and took out a sheet of paper and started writing in it. This time, her eyes turned grey and they were empty, but free.
My daughter’s name is Peyton Lynn Hetherington. Peyton had a normal birth. Labor was about ten hours long, and given naturally. A natural birth is a group of techniques aimed at reducing pain and medical intervention and making childbirth as rewarding as possible (Harris, Sara). I am proud that my "team" could make use of the natural childbirth breathing and relaxation techniques. My partner and myself were amazed at our angel Peyton. My partner and I are adapting well thus far with the new addition to our family. We are taking turns with Peyton and my partner has been very helpful.
One of my assignments for a clinical rotation day this semester on the post-partum unit was an ESL mother and her newborn. The charting stated the mother was ESL, but she actually spoke almost no English, and the ESL father translated throughout our care. Although, the patient care is fundamentally the same, I chose this as the topic for my reflection because it was challenging, and a unique experience as a student nurse. Both parents despite our obvious barrier were very receptive of health teaching as well as patient throu...
This time she had concerns about not being able to spend much time with her son, as she will like. In other hand she as her son complaining about mom no being home as much and how she explain the situation to her son. and him being able to understand . She also describe how her son is able to understand their believes due to and how is is able to costume to their life style, and no being judgmental to others ways of living. She also talked about her new job how supported she feels from her co-worker. This time around was different from the pass two sessions. she tends to concentrated a lot about her and surgery and struggles and achievements, this time was about her but in a different way. this time her main topic was her son, how proud she is of her son and how her believes are part of their day to day life.
For that, I interviewed my boss, Karen. I see her almost every work day but there were still many things I wanted to ask her about. I knew that she had been married to a man before she met her wife, and that she still had his last name even after separating and remarrying. I also knew that her father was a Methodist minister and performed her marriage ceremony back when he could’ve gotten in a lot of hot water for doing so. I knew that she was adopted, too. But the rest of her life, the in-between moments, were still a mystery to me. So, I really enjoyed that interview. As you can tell from the transcription, we laughed a lot and got along well. I think she felt comfortable and she told me later that she had enjoyed talking with me. I also came more prepared and with more questions. It was hard to do my initial research on my student interviewee because there wasn’t a lot of prior information that I could find about her. With Karen, I not only had my own prior information, but she is also easily found on the internet. A lot of that has to do with her age and the businesses she has been involved
For the first part of the interview I really focused how Emily got to where she is and why she wanted to pursue nursing. My first question entailed, “What made you want to become a nurse?”
Pregnancy can be an exciting and sometimes frightening experience for many women. It was a snowy Sunday afternoon, and I was not feeling very well. I remember all week long, every morning I felt nauseated. I was craving odd foods, and foods I normally would not eat together. I was on the phone with my best friend explaining to her how I was feeling. She said “It sounds like you are pregnant.” That thought never even crossed my mind until that moment. Sure enough she was right, I was pregnant for the first time. I was excited to have a baby and never realized how many emotions or complications can take place during a pregnancy. Everybody that I knew that had babies, had such wonderful experiences. Unfortunately, this happy moment became such a monumental, emotional and stressful time in my life. During my pregnancy, I went through many emotional experiences from almost losing my child, to the uncertainty of a birth defect and early delivery.
It was August 25, 2006 and I just received the news that I was going to have a baby. At that moment so many thoughts ran through my mind. I was extremely nervous and terr...
The Internet is like a “safe place” for teens these days. Teens are consistently doing things on the internet, most of which, they don’t want their parents seeing. The Internet can be dangerous and there are many hazards to it, however teens have a right to their privacy. In Harlan Coben’s article, “The Undercover Parent”, he tells you that it is a good idea for parents to put spyware on their teen’s device. In my opinion, I think that spying on your teen’s Internet use is a vast invasion of privacy.

I interviewed a woman who has a child with special needs. The child is now in kindergarten. The mother reported having a normal pregnancy with no complications. This was the second child for the mother, who has another child who was five years old at the time. The mother disclosed that during the pregnancy, she was in the process of separating from the child’s father and that this caused a moderate level of stress. At the time of the pregnancy, the mother was also working full time as a waitress in a local restaurant. The mother reported that her job required her to be on her feet for long periods of time. She was able to work until around a week before her child was born. The mother reports that the child was born around two weeks early but that labor was easy and the child was born healthy.
At the time, my wife Jeanne was pregnant with our soon-to-be daughter Tahlyn. We had waited eight long months for her to arrive, and finally her due date was getting closer and closer. The excitement grew stronger as the days went by.
Jennifer, as I call her, about allowing me to interview her, she was just as excited as I was about getting to know each other and being able to share her work experience as a Medical Technologist. We began with general introduction and background during which she told me that she graduated from East Carolina University with a Bachelor’s in Clinical Laboratory Science. Laboratory science wasn’t her first choice. She initially started out working as a Chemical Engineer, but after going through a summer internship she decided that it wasn’t what she really wanted to do. Jennifer said: “After working the internship, I decided that it wasn’t for me. I knew that once I had children that I wanted to work in a field that had a part-time option.” She went on to say that she wanted to work in a field that dealt with either science or math, and that she definitely did not want to be a nurse. Like most people I’ve spoken to, she learned about the medical laboratory profession by talking to someone that worked in healthcare, and that person just so happened to be a nurse. After discussing possible jobs in the hospital, her mother-in-law told her about possibly working in the hospital lab as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, and after doing some research she decided to meet with her academic advisor to find out what courses she needed to take to complete the
For my oral history I decided to interview my mother. My mom’s life is filled with so many interesting stories and they always take me to another place. I chose her because I wanted to more, I wanted to see if my mother was more like me when I was younger. Mother was a straight A student in high school and involved in many clubs. She was born and bred in Cleveland, she grew up in a different and exciting time; it was the eighties. Here is my mom in not so many words :
By the time the hospital gave my mother a room, it was midnight and I was very sleepy. I was told by my mom to go to the room with her so I did. I was falling asleep on a sofa the hospital had, while my mom was screaming her lungs out. Looking back at this I have no idea why I was in the delivery room. I was later kicked out of it by mom anyways. I wanted the memory of me being in the delivery room for that one hour to stick with me as a reminder of how hard it is to be a mother from the start. Years later, it did stick with me, and it helped me be a better daughter.I realized my mom went through a lot to bring me into this earth and it wasn’t easy for her to do so. From that moment on, even though I was kicked out of the room as soon as I saw her again, I have been as helpful and careful with her as I could ever since. That moment I spend in the delivery room with my mom is actually one of the most special parts of the trip because it made my mom and I closer. I became much closer to her after I realized I owe her to be the best I can as a daughter and to be the best for
