1. Name 3 ways that you could specifically use Audacity in your grade level and content area.
Audacity could be used as a way to improve a student's ability to read expressively by listening to themselves reading a passage then determining where expression is needed. It could also be used to create learning reviews with a voiceover for students that need refreshers on content, these could be uploaded to YouTube for students to view at home if needed. Audacity could also be used when discussing the topic of soundwaves because it shows the actual wave a sound it has recorded makes, this would allow students to experiment with pitch and volume and see how it affects the soundwave.
2. What do you think would be the most beneficial reason to use
Audacity in the classroom? Audacity is beneficial for teachers because it allows them to add a technological element to their lessons that can be used in variety of ways. It is beneficial for students because it allows them to record their readings or thought process on a problem then send that to classmates or their teacher for feedback. 3. What do you think would be the hardest part of using Audacity in the classroom? The hardest part of incorporating Audacity into the classroom is a lack of resources. Not every classroom is equipped with a computer and microphone, or multiple if we are needing them for students. This lack of resources would put constraints on time which seems to be scarce, so most teachers would rather find another option if they lack computers or microphones. 4. How could you have students use Audacity in and outside of the classroom? Students that need reading intervention could be provided with a teacher recorded version of a passage or book that they can practice with at home. These students could then record themselves reading the passage or book for the interventionist to listen to and track progress.
For this assignment, I chose to interview JL Audio cofounder Lucio Proni. JL Audio is a consumer/professional audio manufacturer located in Miramar Florida that produces speakers for boats, cars, and home sound systems.
Auditory learners are students that learn by being read to, so that they can get the information in their ears. They understand it better that way, they can’t understand it through their eyes. This is the importance of books being put on tape. One perspective that I learned from watching this video about students with learning disabilities is that it is very important to get to know your students, so that you can learn the best way to teach them what they need to know.
The Studio System Key point about the studio system could be: Despite being one of the biggest industries in the United States, indeed the World, the internal workings of the 'dream factory' that is Hollywood is little understood outside the business. The Hollywood Studio System: A History is the first book to describe and analyse the complete development, classic operation, and reinvention of the global corporate entities which produce and distribute most of the films we watch. Starting in 1920, Adolph Zukor, head of Paramount Pictures, over the decade of the 1920s helped to fashion Hollywood into a vertically integrated system, a set of economic innovations which was firmly in place by 1930.
Learning disabilities are very common among students in today’s society. Some students have specific needs that must be met in order for them to learn, while other students are not getting the help that they need to succeed in the classroom. Reading disabilities, related to the disability of dyslexia (National Center for Learning Disabilities, 2014), can be met with certain assistive technology that can make learning to read easier for the students. A type of assistive technology that helps reading disabilities is an audio book that allows students to hear the book read to them with the option of following along (Raskind & Stanberry, 2010). Audio books allow the students to focus on the purpose of the book; rather than struggling to read the book and focus on what the book is trying to explain. Since this type of assistive technology reads out loud to the students, it can guide them to learn how to read certain words correctly and how to grasp the concepts of the book easier. A specific type of an audio book source is Audible (Raskind & Stanberry, 2010), which allows the user to download and auto book on to a “smartphone, tablet, or desktop” (Audible Inc., 2014, p. 1). This source benefits students because they can listen to book in a classroom setting or they can listen to the book at home, especially when writing a book report.
Recording technology wasn’t always a digital process. Before the 1970s, all recordings depended on capturing a physical analogue sound with microphones. This was done on either tape or disk. Analogue recordings lacked the sonic integrity that the 21st century demanded; it was becoming increasingly problematic and expensive in reducing noise and distortion that plagued analogue recordings. As a result, audio researchers began to study digital conversion techniques. They discovered that digitizing an electrical audio signal consisted of sampling the audio wave thousands of times a second, measuring the peak amplitude of each sample, and then assigning one of a limited number of binary values to each.
List any special features of your school or classroom setting (e.g., charter, co-teaching, themed magnet, remedial course, honors course) that will affect your teaching in this learning segment.
Auditory learners are people who learn more effectively through listening to speeches or lectures. About 30 percent of the population is an auditory learner (Jacob, S. and Cole, S. 2005). For auditory learners they have to have sound in the background in order to learn the best. Auditory learners depend on hearing and speaking as a primary way of learning. They will use phrases like “it is starting to ring a bell” and “sounds good to me” to describe distinct memories. There are two types of auditory learners, auditory listeners and verbal processors. An auditory listener prefers to have things explained to them and will have trouble with written instructions; where as verbal processors must move their lips and reiterate the thoughts in order to understand the instructions. It is important for auditory learne...
For the teacher, computer technology can lead to more efficient time management in record keeping and developing lessons plans as well as the ease of conducting any kind of research and communication without having to leave the classroom.
The first advantage would be teachers embracing tech in the classroom.Teachers embrace tech as a teaching tool in a way the students will understand.According to Eric board when students took an assignment of translating passages of Othello into other dialects, some students used the texting dialect,”resulting in some very interesting dialogue between lago and othello. The kind of technology teachers are embracing on are high tech calculators,Ipads, smartboards, and a variety of sites.Today’s high tech calculators don’t just calculate certain equations but also graph equations, how to find the greatest common factor, and even get a larger view or smaller view of the graph. The use of ipads in the classroom is useful for both the teacher and the student. For the students the ipad can give them some hints on the problem their solving and maybe even keep a record of their grades that certain student has so they can easily check up on them at any time. While for the teachers they can easily set up tests and quizzes and even grade assignments quickly and effecently.Although some teachers still use regular boards, most teachers use smart boards to teach. These boards are like ordinary boards except these are controlled by remote control pen.By just clicking on the board questions can be written...
Imagine a world without music…can it be done?? Of course not. Music is everywhere, even when we don’t realize it. In fact, there’s a piece by composer John Cage entitled “4:33” validating that such thing. Cage’s composition, or lack there of, puts an emphasis on how even in silence, the beauty of music still shines. His work consists of a pianist sitting beside a piano for four minutes and thirty-three seconds doing absolutely nothing…or so we think. In reality, though, the genuine music is the tiny sounds like the air conditioner, the whispering of people, etc. As outrageous as this might seem to some, I believe it’s genius. Like current day Audio Engineers, or Music Producers, Cage put a lot of thought into his creation prior to writing or producing it. Moreover, I believe Cage’s silent song paved the way for those employed in Audio Engineering now, and for those to come. By becoming an Audio Engineer myself, I too, want to show the world how beautiful music can be.
Using videos in the classroom provides multiple avenues for learning. Not only do students learn by seeing, but this also helped students develop auditory skills to be able to listen. Because visual learners learn by seeing, I can use maps to help students better understand concepts in social studies or history. Seeing where the pioneers traveled as well as talking about the climate and harsh conditions will allow the students to make sense of how the people had to survive. Another way I can utilize my talents are making posters with eye-catching cartoon characters. This will provide an opportunity for me to be creative and draw, but also make the subjects more appealing for when the posters are hung in the classroom. Graphs will prove to be helpful in math because I can do an experience, but also mark the results using a chart to provide a visual. This will also provide lessons in visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. Graphic organizers will be used a lot to compare and contrast two stories. This will make it easier to see the differences and similarities. Using my graphic organizer as an example, students have an example of what their work should
As I performed participant observation this weekend, continuously walking and circling the 9/11 memorial pools in an almost figure eight fashion, I performed two different types of note taking: audio recording and hand-written. Of course, both methods had their advantages and disadvantages. First, the audio recording was great for picking up details. As I type my observations, the audio recording paints a fuller picture of the field and help me recollect events much better. However, one disadvantage is that the notes are a bit long. I recorded everything I saw or mentioned what I thought was significant, which was too tedious or later turned out to be insignificant. Second, hand written notes were often brief, which is nice. I quickly
Technology properly used in the classroom has many advantages to a student’s learning. Technology can help students become more involved in their own learning process, which is not seen in the traditional classroom. It allows them to master basic skills at their own rate rather than being left behind. Teachers and students alike can connect to real life situations by using technology in the classroom; this can also help to prepare students for real world situations. Technology can be used to motivate students as well as to offer more challenging opportunities. It can also be used as a visualization tool to keep students interested in the subject that is being taught. When technology is used effectively, students have the opportunity to develop skills that they may not get without the use of technology (Cleaver, 2011). Assessing and monitoring students is easier on the teacher because of the ability to use technology in the classroom. When technology is used correctly it offers limitless resources to a classroom atmosphere.
Now let's talk about students paying attention in class. That is the main reason teachers and superior people of school worry about. They don't need to worry because the students can record whatever the teacher is saying. It also helps if the child is half asleep in class or they just don’t understand the concept. the student can go home and listen to what to do however many times they want.It will also help with studding before a test.
The corresponding Internet site for this textbook greatly improves the overall effect on the education of students. Students have quick access to any part of the text. They also receive visual and audio stimulation, which has been proven to increase the amount of information the student remembers. Some students are simply not strictly audio learners. Listening to a professor or teacher lecture sometimes just isn't enough for students. With the site they can review material quickly and easily and see the multimedia imagery at their own pace. Students can even take practice tests to see if they have learned the material.
