On February 21, 2018 was the annual spring career fair. The career fair is a very important event for students even if they are not graduating. This allows a student to get an idea of what jobs they can get after graduation. This can even help with the decision of your career focus. I am currently a junior in college and I have attended the career fair every semester since I have been here. I enjoy going and hearing about all the jobs that are related to my field. There are many ways that the career fair related to social psychology because the career fair is set on social interactions. One thing that related from the book was transformational leadership. Which is found in chapter 8 (p. 302). This is when the leader has significant influence, vision, and inspiration among the employees (Myers, 2013). This is evident in the career fair because the business has chosen leaders to come inspire students to be a part of their company. They promote the visions of the agency and what their services are. This theory is explained as interactions between humans that tend to aim to maximize a person reward and minimize their costs (Myers, 2013). I had seen this at the career fair because people were trying to get people to join their team. This would maximize their reward because they would have more people working for them so they would be able to have more clients. This means that they would make more money by having the ability to take on more clients. They would also get their name out there more by having the ability to take on more clients. This would minimize their costs because they would not lose very much by getting more
I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past.
When I arrived at the career fair, I was a little overwhelmed at first. There were so many different options to choose from and I was unsure as to where to start. This was my first ever career fair so I truly wasn’t sure what to expect.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and be in search of a future career. The magnitudes of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors were related to the job market. Ultimately, this class helped me gauge and find a suitable career path, which will forever shape my future.
As a whole, Warren Bennis defined the values and achievement plan for becoming the most successful leader one can be. He highlighted the link between self knowledge and business. A leader is not just “doing a job” or “running a company,” but it’s finding one’s personal vision. Bennis tries to do as much as he possibly he can to shatter this myth. For me competency 2 is the ability for us as social workers recognizing the characteristics and factors that help shape an individual’s identity and help define what an individual believes in and what they stand for. These characteristics and factors include things such as gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, age, etc. Its these characteristics and factors that affect an individual’s human experience and it’s what makes each of us incredibly unique. According to Pearce & Conger, (2002), the action that leads employees in achieving its objectives or goals is called leadership. It has been proven in several researches that leadership in an organization plays a significant role in employee’s productivity and performance (Yuki, 2001). Leaders are one of the people in an organization who can influence the behavior of the employees in several ways. They motivates employees, sets a clear vision for the team or for the management, builds morale and guide their employees through the course of their work (Smirch & Morgan, 1982).
Leaders are the individuals who help to create options and opportunities. They help in identifying the choices and solve the problems. They build commitment and coalitions. Leaders do this by inspiring others and working along with them to construct the shared vision of the possibilities and commitments of a better group, organization or community. They engage the followers in such a way that most of the followers become leaders in their own right. Leaders are considered as an important part to any successful organization because the leader is not just being a successful leader but also to bring achievement to the organization and its employees. “Leadership is the ability to influence a group toward the achievement of goals.” (Robins, page 221). Leaders insist employees on entering training courses to improve the productivity, and to expand their knowledge.
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
Discovering what motivates this leader to lead is the belief that this she was sent to this earth to help others become autonomous and self-reliant; to help groups overcome their fears, to prepare the way for followers to embark upon their own progressive journey to help lead teams to authentic happiness. Although there are many outstanding, albeit necessary qualities of a good leader, it is the leader’s beliefs in which greatness is given its first breath, fostered by action, and spread throughout the institution. A great leader believes in encouraging, not destroying; in setting the precedence instead of yielding to prominence ; in collaboration, not division; in giving, not taking; and in having high standards and volunteering to be the first of many to be held to them. A great leader does not take advantage of the people being lead, but instead, creates an advantage for the people by giving them the opportunities to lead. Only when people take ownership of an institution will passion be cultivated, action be taken, and greatness be achieved.

An internship is a formal program to provide practical experience for beginners in an occupation or profession. By this point in my internship I am more than half way through it and taking on more and more responsibilities and positions as I go along.
It has been a while since I started at the internship and I am really glad I decided to work here. I think the experience in this area is a good preview of my career and future. I am learning some important skills and finding out some things about myself and the tough skin I will need in order to stay in the area of juvenile support.
