The day has come. The one day that you absolutely need to bring your A-game. The day that can determine your employment status for the upcoming summer or, even scarier, your life after college. It is time for the Career Fair. Even as a freshman, attending the Career Fair is a valuable learning experience, because you can practice talking to recruiters and, hopefully, get a job shadow or internship for the upcoming summer. This is how I thought the Career Fair was going to go, but I was proven wrong. I began preparing for the Career Fair three days in advance. I had already created my elevator pitch before then but I really started to research the companies that were going to be there three days in advance. This is because I thought that three days would be enough time for me to absorb enough information about each …show more content…
Going up to the representative, I felt nervous but I also felt that my practice beforehand would get me through the elevator speech and by then, I’ll be comfortable enough to overcome my nervousness. However, when I went up to the representative, I completely froze and my mind went blank. I was able to recover and begin talking but I kept thinking back to how I drew a blank and how the recruiter thought of me. The next company I talked to was a little easier than the first. I talked to the representative from Khols, and I felt like this interaction went a lot better. I was able to remember some of the research I had done and utilize it to further my case as a good candidate. However, I feel like the last company I talked was the best. I talked to American Charted Banks last and I felt great. No longer was I nervous and I was beginning to feel a little confident. My elevator speech was recited almost perfectly, I kept eye contact, and demonstrated my knowledge about the company that I gained from the research I had done. Overall, I felt pretty god about my interaction with American Charted
I went for the Career Network Event and it was a great learning experience for me. I went there trying to apply everything that I learned from my job search class and it was a success. Because I had the chance to speak to the employer of my interest, and I everything went as planned, I remember my professor in class told us to make sure we have a goal and to know which company that we would like to work for and just go for it. I went in there and I did the exact thing that he told us. I remember before taking this class I used to try to speak to every single one of employer and then I put everything in one folder. Later on when I went to contact the job that I was interested in, I would get all the employers mixed up and because of that, that cost me a lot of jobs that I always wanted in the past.

Like I said before, I was not very familiar
Growing up all my friends had perfect jobs for teenagers. As a teenager, I spent a lot of time applying for jobs and searching for places to work because money didn’t come easy and I wanted to be in control of my own money. But I could never score a job. I applied to at least 100 jobs at least twice and I still couldn’t get an opportunity.
Time sure does fly; in the blink of an eye, yet another 7.5-week class has come and gone. Just like life, it is scary to think that in just a few short years I will be graduating college and in search of a future career. The magnitude of readings, assignments, PowerPoint lectures, and videos have all contributed to the valuable knowledge I have gained since taking this course. Nothing that was presented or required was seen as invaluable towards my progression of career development. This career development course has allowed me to do some self-exploration, career research, and help me understand what influencing factors are related to the job market.
The outcome of an interview/meeting can automatically be predicted in the first few minutes (Elkins). Thus, the importance of having a great first impression is magnified, as it determines the outcome of an interview.
that I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field but I was not sure
I’ve heard it all before from family and friends, “Martha, you should stop eating this or doing that”. I knew they only meant the best seeing how my blood pressure was through the roof and my ankles and knees were constantly sore. But it was still infuriating how others would make it seem like it was just so simple for me to change the lifestyle I’ve had for the past 35 years. The stress and weight piled up quickly after my messy divorce. I hit rock bottom and didn’t care much about my weight or eating habits that shaped my 5’5” 350 pound frame. However, everything changed after taking my 6 year old daughter to the fair on a Saturday morning about 2 years ago.

Finally, I’m home after a full week of tryouts. One full week of hard work and lots of soreness. I just sat in front of the computer screen. I had dinner there and watched T.V from there. I was just waiting the moment for coach to put up the numbers of the people who had made the team online. I was nervous but confident, I felt that I tried my best and gave it all I could and actually felt like coach liked me. Especially because after the last session he said, “Great job. I see your passing and shooting are really good and I like that.” When I heard those words come out of his mouth I felt that I had automatically made the soccer squad.
On February 21, 2018 was the annual spring career fair. The career fair is a very important event for students even if they are not graduating. Timing is important when it comes to scheduling a college career fair. Doing it at the wrong time of year will ensure you get few attendees and even fewer recruiters. Since it's likely you don't have the budget to hold countless career fairs throughout the year, you need to schedule your career fair carefully.

Career Counseling, or Career Services depending on the institution, is frequently offered on a one-on-one basis, but at times this service is provided through group workshops, classes, or computerized guidance systems. Traditionally a standard function of the career services role is to help students develop job search skills however the scope of the career development services has broadened considerably in recent years (Komives, Woodard, & Associates, 2003, p. 344). Career services professionals may teach resume writing, critique students' resumes and cover letters, provide resources on resume and employment letter writing, job interviewing skills, and planning job search strategies. Students may be videotaped in mock interviews so they can see themselves in action. Additionally some career services offices involve alumni, school advisory committees, or employers in critiquing resumes, conducting practice interviews, or leading workshops. Many may also offer sessions on related topics such as professional networking, proper attire, or transitioning to the work place.
