Career development goes beyond merely landing a job in the corporate world. Rather, it focuses on implementing dynamic strategies that will foster continuous personal improvement. Several strategies must be employed ranging from personal enhancements to inter-personal tactics. Personal career goal setting is a fundamental step in career development. Putting the end in mind first is elemental in setting one’s course and achieving success. They provide both the motivation as well as a meaning for every step I take. The coach is able to assist the client with navigating through concerns or desired change through skilled processes, industry knowledge and required considerations. Today, career coaching can prepare the client for the revolution that their work environment has placed upon them.
The major focus of career planning is on assisting the employees achieve a better match between personal goals and the opportunities that are realistically available in the organization. Career programmers should not concentrate only on career growth opportunities. Practically speaking, there may not be enough high level positions to make upward mobility a reality for a large number of employees. Hence, career-planning efforts need to pin-point and highlight those areas that offer psychological success instead of vertical growth.
The changing workplace - a by-now familiar litany of economic, demographic, organizational, and social changes - has made ambiguity the only certainty in work life. Many adults had little or no career education, guidance, or counseling when they were "in school " and often seek such help now, making job or career changes spurred by their personal stage of development or by the "postmodern" workplace. Although career development is a continuous lifelong process, "media and some scholars continue to dramatize crisis in midlife" (Lea and Leibowitz 1992, p. 8). Crises and transitions can occur at any period, however. Hoyt and Lester (1995) found that the career needs of adults aged 18-25 are particularly not being met. The reason I chose the Hotel Management industry is because it is a career path that I have always been interested in and curious about. It is a fast growing widespread global industry. I’ve always wanted an exciting career, which would integrate my business and creative skills in a way, which would be more energetic, active and fun than most orthodox and boring office desk jobs. I also desired to work in an industry, which I was fervent about. For my first year Applied study period I had the opportunity to work at The Taj hotels, resorts and palaces, India and my experience there established many of my principles of how the hotel industry operated. Despite my refining on the job experience, that allowed me to explore the various departments and requirements of the everyday job, I had never elaborately researched the prospects of working and skills and requirements required in the Hotel Management industry; and this Is exactly what I aim to accomplish with this report.
Career management plays important role in career development. Career management is done with involved taking some necessary steps to reach the career plan and commonly more focusing on the ability of the organization able to do for their employee to increase their career development (Werner & DeSimone, 2009). Career plan is usually able to be performed, at least in some apart, through the training program which implemented by the organization. Career management process contained four steps which are self-assessment, reality check, goal setting and action planning (refer to Figure 1 in Appendix 1).

Whether you’re setting new goals for your future or re-evaluating your career, having a “plan” is crucial to proper career management; it’s like setting out a road map to get you to a new and exciting destination. When looking for a change of career many organisations will look for experience and knowledge people to ensure they are the right person for the job.
According to the study of this course, I have learned many useful management skills and I feel like these skills will be applied to my future career development. When working on the self- assessment tests, I found myself fall into the category of the ISTJ personality types, which as illustrated by Myers Briggs, is the type of personality that is conscientious, considerate, and helpful. Personality traits such as honest, dutiful, practical and responsible are my strengths; personality traits such as stubborn, insensitive and poor communication skill are my weaknesses. Related to the knowledge I have learned in the course I believe both strengths and weakness will have influence to my future career development. In this reflection paper, I will demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses that may place the most influence on my way of success.
