As the year is coming closer to an end and with graduation so close, it is time to decide what I am going to do for the rest of my life. Part of figuring out what I am going to do is knowing what career I am to pursue. Last year during my junior year, I developed a strong interest towards psychology and have decided to pursue a career as a psychiatrist. Yet in the four types of personality/career tests, they state entirely different things but they all agree that I should do some type of teaching in a way. These results vary from jobs such as engineers to teachers to a marine biologist to management to an artist, some of which I would have never considered pursuing.
In the first career test, the Career Test Center Online Personality Type

However, the careers associated with the personality type I feel like are not for me. These careers include management, bank examiners, dentists, school principals, real estate agent, computer programmers, none of which I am interested in the slightest way. The Enneagram test results state I am a type 4, meaning I must be unique/different to survive; my lowest scores were in type 3 where I must be impressive and attractive to survive. This was in fact not a surprise to me because I hate being called the same as everyone, that is why stereotypes irritate me greatly. Careers in type 4 include psychotherapist, yoga/dance instructor, life coach, masseuse, artist, relationship/couples counselor, or actor/ musician. Because I am interested in psychology, I have researched the different types of careers in the field, so psychotherapy may be a possible path to take. Though the life coach and relationship/couples counselor and life coach paths seem interesting as well. In the third career test, the Sixteen Career Cluster Survey, I scored highest in Education and Training careers and the lowest in marketing. This is a surprise because I
I had the opportunity to take the 16 Careers Cluster Inventory. I found the assessment very easy to take. As well, I found the inventory easy to score. My results of the assessment indicated my top three career areas were: 1. Educational and Training, 2. Health Sciences, and 3 had a three way tie between Human Services, Hospitality, and Law enforcement. I found the assessment to be dead on. Based upon the past personality inventories that I have taken I found the suggested areas very appropriate. One of the appealing aspects of the inventory was the easy of taking it! It seemed to gather accurate information without being overly pathological and test-driven.
Following college graduation, I desired a purposeful career but was initially unsure which profession to pursue. I
All the personality tests I’ve taken in class, such as sigi3 and DWYA suggest I could pursue a career in my chosen field. Based on my personality type I like caring for people and “helping others reach their full potential” (Do What You Are 2014). Because of my desire to help people and my attention to detail pursuing a career as a nurse practitioner would be perfect for me.
As we begin to grow up and come to the end of our high school career we must start to begin to start thinking about what type of career we want to be in. It is very important that a person picks the right type of career for them. Otherwise you will be unhappy with what you are doing and will not enjoy it at all. I am not entirely sure what I want my career to be but I have a pretty good idea as to what type of job it will be. I would like to go into the field of a physical therapist and sports medicine, I fell I will enjoy this more than any other type of career just because I already have a lot of interest in it.
Application of career theories to my own life allows for analyzing past and future career decisions. Holland’s Theory of Careers states that one’s vocation is an expression of self, personality, and way of life. There is an indisputable and fundamental difference in the quality of life one experiences if they choose a career one truly enjoys, versus choosing a career one detests. A true testament to the validity of Holland’s theory, my job/career choices reflect my interests, as well as the evolution of my personality (internal self). My first job as a fine jewelry specialist and second job as a make-up artist echo my love of the fashion world. As I matured and became less fascinated by presumed “glamour” careers, I became captivated by physical fitness, nutrition, and medicine; I received my national fitness trainer certificate so that I may become a personal trainer. Nevertheless, my career decisions do not fit uniformly into merely one career theory.
Many of my friends pick their careers based on money and trade skills that they have. I am proficient in art and design, but didn’t feel like that was what I wanted to do for my career. Your career shapes a huge portion of your life. It is what you do every day, for a large portion of your life. It is what I have prepared for the past 12 or so years of my life. It is way more than just money or a skill. I wanted to do something unique, something interesting, something that would inspire me to be a better human, something that would make me feel, something that is challenging, something that helped others, and above all, something that was rewarding and made me feel fulfilled.
The tool is affordable, reliable, valid, easy to use, and yields a wide range of information that can be extremely useful in career counseling. Although anyone can use the tool to identify the best career option, it is important to seek the services of a career counselor in interpreting the instrument’s results. Career counselors are trained in career guidance and can accurately interpret and analyze the instrument’s results while considering an individual’s
I have known from an early age that I’ve wanted to become a doctor. Helping people has always been a passion of mine. When I was younger, I wanted to be a veterinarian. However, after working with young children I have found that I love working with them, and have a connection with children. Currently, I am interested in becoming either a neonatologist or a general pediatrician so I can continue to work with young children.

A career in psychology is one that offers a wide variety of paths in which you can pursuit it. When one decides that they want to accomplish a degree in psychology, the next step is to decide what specific path you are willing to take. In the beginning we might feel overwhelmed, unsure and scared by having all these choices, and not knowing which one to turn to, or if were even making the right choice. Exploring the different paths in the career can help us narrow down the alternatives that we are exposed to. I have decided to major in psychology and work in a field with kids, and have decided to explore the following jobs in the field of psychology: clinical psychology, developmental psychology,
From an early age, I can remember being interested in the way the human mind and body work. The way they coincide together and how one can affect the other. With these two things being the subjects that I was most interested in one can assume that I would choose psychology or nursing as my career path. Becoming a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner would be my dream job because it combines the 2 things that drive me the most psychology and nursing.
Yes, I'm a bit more seasoned than the typical APM candidate. I'm a career switcher, sort of like my uncle who managed a Walmart tire department after serving as an electronics technician in the Air Force.
Job classification is to group job positions and then value them in a fair and transparent manner according to various functions as well as geographically.
There are hundreds of majors to choose from, however, as college freshman, we can only pick one. Even so, some college students have a difficult time deciding between a major they are interested in and the major that will benefit them the most. There are also many students who do not know what they want to do with their lives at all. A possible solution for this confusion is to take personality tests. Tests such as the Kolb, Myers-Briggs, and Holland inventories can help college students, especially incoming freshman, explore their personality types and find what interests them. It will give students insights that they never knew about themselves and even list careers that they may find
Choosing a career is one of the most important decisions a person has to make in their life. It is so important because that is what we will have to do to support ourselves throughout life. Imagine being stuck in a dead end job and having to go to work every morning and dreading it. That is no spending oneÕs time and life is too short to work 35 years and be unhappy with it. If a person likes the job they do then it is not work, because finding satisfaction out of a job can bring great happiness. That information has enabled me to make the decision of choosing my area of study and career in the field of Information Technology.
