PEREIRA- Captain Torres was nearly killed last Thursday afternoon (April 15) by “Rebel”, Matias Rodrigues. Captain Torres claimed that all the time the rebel member, his barber was shaving him, the barber was whispering under his breath “Just Lather, That’s All.” The Captain sensed a moral dilemma, especially when Rodrigues started humming “murderer or hero” repeatedly under his breath. Rodrigues succumbed to his thoughts and tried to slit Captain Torres’ throat. He was stopped by the Captain's hands. The barber said he’d clean the cut and went to his cabinet. The Lead of the Captain’s Security Team, Ignacio Garcias, figured that Rodrigues was probably lying about simply getting antiseptics from his cabinet. The antiseptics and the clean …show more content…
Accordingly, I called on my guys to chase him. As he is a local he knows the area much better than we do and must have found somewhere to hide. For that reason, the Captain called a manhunt for him and we will look far and wide for that cowardly barber,” said the Lead of the Captain’s Security Team. One of the other rebels who the Captain visited (who chooses to stay anonymous) claims “When Torres visited my tailor shop, where I made him a suit, he was taunting me the whole time” Apparently Captain Torres had commented “without any effort, I could go to sleep.”He told the tailor that he would wear the suit for the dinner celebrating an execution of Rebels. He supposedly invited the Tailor to watch the execution. Captain Torres probably said the same lines to the barber as he did to the Tailor. The tailor could tolerate Captain Torres pushing his buttons, however the barber could not. The Pereira police is searching through the 20 square kilometer forest behind the barbershop, a five kilometer radius around the barbershop and a two kilometer radius around the forest. Detective Edwin Valencia disclosed “there was a lot of vomit found next to Size 10 shoe prints. We have not got back the DNA results and we do not have a warrant to check through Rodrigues’ home.” This was in the forest, just three kilometers west of the barber
Dia de los reyes magos is on Jan. 5 - Feb. 2 and the day is about the 3 wisemen, But January the 6th is the special day in Mexico….. this day represents the height of the Christmas season. This celebration is where it is stated that the kings, Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthasar, traveled by night all the way from the farthest confines of the Earth to bring gifts to Jesus, whom they recognized as the Son of God. As well as regal, the Three Kings are depicted as wise men, whose very wisdom is proved by their acknowledgement of Christ's divine status. Arrived from three different directions, the kings followed the light provided by the star of Bethlehem, which reportedly lingered over the manger where the Virgin Mary gave birth for many days. In

This book has great balances of love interests, actions, and internal conflict with characters. It has an interesting story so far with new pieces coming up every few chapters that are very important. Like Al attacking Tris, Eric talking about Divergents and how the rebels must be eliminated. Tris and Four are developing feelings for each other, which I find weird because he is basically her teacher. They are only two years apart, so the relationship is not that awkward. In this journal I will be predicting, evaluating, and questioning.
His client is Captain Torres, who is an evil man. The barber has been given the job of shaving his beard, and with the Captain sitting before him and a razor in his hand, the barber realizes how easy it would be to kill him. “I could cut his throat just so, zip! zip! I wouldn’t give him time to complain” (Tellez, 3). This develops the barber’s inner conflict as he is silently contemplating whether to simply shave him like a professional barber should, or kill him on the spot. The Captain’s fate is literally in the barber’s hands. This inner conflict is a result of his image, how he wants to be portrayed, because he is both a barber and a secret rebel. “My destiny depends on the edge of this razor” (3). Therefore, whatever he chooses ultimately results in how his future will unfold. If he kills the Captain, he could be seen as either a “murderer or hero” (3). If he doesn’t kill the Captain, he is letting the man go who is responsible for so many terrible things. After contemplating his choices and considering the consequences, he eventually solves his conflict by simply giving him a shave and letting Torres go. As a result, the barber indeed proves how one’s identity will result in how one’s future will
Immigration is a large aspect of American history. In the book Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez, we are able to see the struggles of one Hispanic boy immigrating to the United States from Mexico. Many of the people in the community that Francisco lived in didn’t really accept Hispanic people. It was really depressing that he would make friends, go over to their house and their parents wouldn’t let him come over again, simply because he was Hispanic. In Diversity Matters the text states, “Unique stresses created by the process of immigration to another country and discrimination faced in the new country can create psychological distress for many immigrants” (Spradlin 126). During this time in America, there was still a lot of discrimination going on not only with Hispanics, but other minority races like African Americans. This really goes to show how far our country has come over the years. There is still a long way to go, but I think that if people are more educated and aware of the discrimination people face on a daily basis they will be more open-minded. The United States is becoming more open to diversity, but first we will look at the struggles of one Hispanic boy growing up here illegally in Breaking Through.
... under any immediate danger (Téllez). Even though Captain Torres is very close to the barber, he is in a position of disadvantage because he is disarmed and he is retrained by the sheet that the barber put on him (Téllez). The proximity of the killer to their victim creates circumstances in which forces one to kill or allows one to not kill.
Cesar Chavez uses aphorism, allusion, and other literary devices to give more of a lasting influence in this piece of writing. By using these devices, Chavez’ piece about nonviolent resistance is further developed. He also uses devices to help people understand what he is saying and connect it to their own lives/life experiences.
The secret police pick him up and treated him rather nicely. Once they arrive at Fortaleza San Luis thing change dramatically. Yunior insinuates that he will be tortured for the next nine years. They take all his belongings and punch him in the face for asking questions. He is then thrown into a cell as the policeman tells the other prisoner Abelard is a homosexual and communist. The other prisoners take all his cloths and leave him naked and restricted to a small area near the feces covered toilet. This is a further insult to him as a man in Dominican culture.
In the short reading “Like Mexicans” Gary Soto is undecided about what route he should pursue when moving on into the future. In his early teens his grandmother told him to become a barber and to marry a Mexican girl, Soto’s mother told him this as well. When Soto was in his twenties he ended up falling in love with a Japanese woman named Carolyn. Towards the end of the story Soto realized that the reason his mom wanted him to marry a Mexican girl was because they are in the same social class as him. At the end of the story when Soto is at Carolyn’s house he perceived that her family was different, but they were just like Mexicans because they were poor. Throughout this story Soto crossed three life changes: Culture, food,
