Noble Noble, according to Merriam-Webster online dictionary, is referred to as both “possessing outstanding qualities” and “possessing, characterizing, or arising from superiority of mind or character or of ideals or morals.” While there are many definitions of the word noble, these two definitions are most exemplified by both Mulan in the movie Mulan and Steve Rogers also known as Captain American in The Avengers. Both of these characters demonstrate nobility but are very different from one another. Mulan is considered a noble hero based on her concepts of morality in bringing honor to her family and her emphasis on family importance as well as her ability to show her desire to identify herself as equal to a male’s identity in Chinese society. …show more content…

By resisting this temptation, he is able to safe his father’s soul and defeat the Emperor. This was not an easy task for Luke as he is very close to striking down the Emperor and giving in to ‘hate’ as the Emperor desires greatly. In comparison to Luke, Antigone from Sophocles’ play Antigone, is successful in demonstrating her will to defy Creon’s law for the greater good of society. Antigone is successful in identifying her own morals and putting them as priority over that of society’s. Luke succeeds in many ways and is able to continue living. In contrast, Antigone does not succeed in the battle of her own life and her morals as she takes her own life. Antigone may be successful in demonstrating to society that Creon’s laws were unjust according to the ‘gods’ but in the end, committed the selfish act of taking her own life. While both Luke Skywalker and Antigone are successful, only Luke considers preserving his own life as a success in comparison to Antigone. And while Antigone may have woken up society in Thebes, she ended her successes with a selfish act of
