Completing a capstone project has been truly been a figurative capstone to my undergraduate education. Through this experience, I have not only been able to integrate many of my intellectual interests, but I have also learned skill that will help me in my future pursuits in education and a career. I have gained insight on how to work and communicate with other researchers across multiple locations, the general research process, and how to disseminate findings through writing and formal presentations. In addition, I have also acquired skills in new statistical models and computing methods which will be valuable to me in the future.
As a student majoring in both psychology and statistics, I am always looking for ways to integrate both of my

fields of study. Not only am I interested in applying statistics in the field of psychology, I also enjoy research on the underlying mechanics of statistical methods and ways we can use these methods to gain the most information from research data. Though I have taken many courses in both psychology and statistics, in my coursework the two subjects were taught separately with very little crossover. My capstone project, along with other research projects and honors contracts, was the perfect integration of all of my interests. I was lucky to have began working with Dr.
Cruz a few years ago and thus I have been able to go through the entire research process with this project. I participated in every stage of this project from using past literature to formulate research questions, gaining IRB approval, acquiring and cleaning the data, creating an analysis plan, analyzing the data, and summarizing the findings. I learned the necessary skills associated with each of these stages and I know this information will be vital to me as I attend graduate school and pursue a career in research in the …show more content…
future. Because we used data from a different university, doing my capstone project also taught me how to collaborate and communicate with other researchers. Because the majority of our communication with team members from different universities was through email, I learned to be specific and concise in my communications. As I tried to understand and organize the data that we received, I also learned the importance of asking questions concerning things such as how the data was collected and recorded. This helped to prevent misinterpretations of the data. In addition from the lessons I learned from collaborating with other researchers, I also gained a great deal from my student-mentor relationship with Dr. Cruz. Having someone to go to with my questions about the research process, statistical methods, the graduate school application process, or anything else provided me with a vital resource in navigating through academia. I appreciated Dr. Cruz's patience and guidance as I tried to meet deadlines and understand confusing theories and ideas. This taught me the importance of seeking out mentors as I continue in my schooling and career. I also learned effective ways to work with other researchers from Dr. Cruz's example. Dr.
Cruz also helped me learn how to communicate the findings of my research. I presented four posters in connection to my research with Dr. Cruz, one being specifically related to my capstone project. I learned how to orally describe my research and to adjust this description based on the level of knowledge of those who I spoke with. I also learned important lessons on visually representing data through this experience. Though challenging, the written thesis portion of the capstone project also taught me how to succinctly summarize my ideas in a way that was understandable to others. I also learned how to use different technology to assist me in producing a quality finished product. For my thesis, I learned how to use the document preparation system LaTeX within the \textit{R} software
environment. Of course, one of the most important lessons that I learned through my honors capstone project was how to work through setbacks and challenges. As in most research studies, the timeline of this project did not always go as I planned. Going through the IRB process, acquiring the needed data, and preparing the data for analysis was a process that took multiple years from start to finish. The analysis process was rigorous as well. Because I was knew to many of the statistical methods which I was using as well as relatively new to programming in \textit{R}, I would sometimes work for hours or even days on analysis just to find out that there was a way to accomplish what I needed using one line of code. Similarly, as I tried to find out the best methods for analyzing the data we had, I would often hours researching a potential analysis method only to find out that it would not work for our set of data. Though this was frustrating, I had to remind myself that I was learning a great deal through this process, even if I did not feel as productive as I wanted to. The challenges and setbacks, as well as the triumphs of my capstone experience, have prepared me for my future pursuits in academia and a career. I will be attending graduate school in the Fall to study biostatistics. Working with Dr. Cruz on this and other research projects was what ultimately helped me decide to pursue further education in the field of biostatistics. I will be working as a research assistant in graduate school and I know that the research skills that I gained through my capstone experience will be vital in my success in this position. I also hope to have career in medical research in the future. My experiences in honors have laid a foundation that I can build on as I pursue further education and a career. I feel that the honors capstone project was the perfect way to end my undergraduate education. For this project, I integrated both my psychology and statistics fields of study into one project. I also drew on knowledge and skills that I had learned throughout the course of my years at Utah State University. I am grateful for this experience and the many lessons that it taught me.
Teaching about the method and the myriad of amputations that could be done in just one day. Another thing I found interesting was how Harvey Cushing performed his work. I knew that the pituitary gland was responsible for the growth hormone and the different things that could go awry, but the way he had an assistant break into a funeral to remove the glands of a dead man seemed irrational, but I suppose it proves
How would you summarize your results and analysis? What questions remain unanswered? What questions were raised by your results and analysis?
As student nurses, I have many goals that would like to achieve upon completion of 150 hours of my capstone course. My plan is to use this opportunity to demonstrate competency skills, and knowledge gained through previous quarters. I have listed seven learning goals that I wanted to achieve during the capstone experience. On my first day of capstone, I have gone over each one with my preceptor and requested from her to provide me with feedbacks, so I can use them as stepping tool to work upon. These goals ranged from critical thinking decision making, culture, growth & development, legal and ethical to clinical competence safety/holistic care, evidence-based practice, and professionalism lifelong learning.
...t the last year of high school would be less agonizing without a laborious issue such as a Culminating Project, to attend to. Therefore, these points have been covered: what the project is, examples of different advocators of the project, and the different viewpoints of why it is useful verses why it is not. Hopefully, this can change the ideals and opinions of the administrators and enforcers of the Senior Project, to consider what a hindrance it is.

In today's world, technology is constantly changing from a new paperclip to an improvement in hospital machinery. Technology lets people improve the way they live so that they can preserve their own personal energy and focus on the really important factors in life. Some people focus their energy on making new innovations to improve transportation and the health of people that may save lives and some people focus on making new designs of packaging CDS. Technology is significant in everyone's life because it rapidly changes what is in the market. But, some new innovations of technology are ridiculous because they serve no purpose in helping mankind.
...g many things that I never thought about before doing this paper was also a benefit. For example, I found out how much Nikki Haley has done for the governor. I also benefited by this research because when I’m out of school I want to move to South Carolina. I have learned much from this paper, and I know it will help me later on in my life.
Finally, here I am typing this assignment on the first floor of the library finishing this paper so I’m able to continue onto my college and career journey. I’ve learned so many thing in just the past couple years that’s helped with other situations in my life and I will carry them to help me along with things through the rest of my life; like multitasking, highlighting the important facts, summarizing, communicating, to not be so self conscious, and finally to be successful in pursuing my dreams and going to UNLV and becoming a criminal profiler.
The movie “The Class Divided” was a very inspirational movie because it taught a lesson on discrimination and racism. The film covers Jane Elliot experience with the “eye-color” exercise and it shows how the participants responded to being a victim of discrimination. The teacher who came up with the exercise was a third grade –teacher that wanted to explain to her kids the reasons behind Martin Luther King death. She divided each class she taught up by their eye color and treated them according to whatever eye color was more superior that day. Her lesson influenced and inspired the younger kids and older adults because it taught them a life learning lesson that could stick with them for years to come.
As a sophomore I have grown more as a student and a global citizen this second semester. I have gained more knowledge and have investigated the world even more than before. I have gained more knowledge in Science, but specifically more in Environmental Science. In Environmental Scince I was able to go on a cruise and do a hands on experiment that had to do with the marine ecosystem. This year I have also been able to investigate the world, more in AP European history and have learned about the Holocaust and how it all led up to it.
I am writing to bring you up to date on the progress that I have made on my educational goals, career goals, goals completed, goals in progress, fie year goals and action steps, ten year goals and actions steps, and potential obstacles to achieving goals. I am confident you will find the results of the report useful for evaluating the progress of my educational and career goals.
Moreover, meeting my district state representatives where I had the pleasure of speaking on behalf of forefronts lobby group for my district, I got to speak to state senator office intern about HB 1379 and more specifically Representative David Sawyer who represents district 29 of the state of Washington. All the research and activities on this project was very interesting and so educational words could not express how I feel about the experience I have gained throughout the process of this project. The one take away from this experience is that in order for my voice to be heard I must advocate so people can
For our class, the class of 2006, graduation was not going to come easily. We were the class of "firsts", and it all started Freshman year. During that year we all first experienced sleep deprivation. We were not used to staying up late and then having to get up early. Then along came our Sophomore year. Our second year at Conolon introduced us to the wonderful world of rubrics. We we...
Professor Stuart used a lot of discussions in the class. Everyone in class offered their opinion on all the material we encountered during the course. The class discussions contributed to helping me learn because it provided me with extra information and different viewpoints of how others interpreted the material. Also, we ended up going to the library and taking a tour. This experience added to my learning in this course because it taught me how to find the proper materials in the library and how to accurately benefit from the sources available in the library. Another contributing factor was the individual conferences scheduled by the professor. The conference contributed because the teacher discussed the current grade I had in that class and helped me understand what I needed to do to improve my academic writing along with my grade. The Prezi PowerPoints encouraging my learning by providing me with accurate information, further helping me understand the underlying material. Peer review also played a role in my learning because it allowed us to get outside ideas or criticism for our paper, allowing us to fix the mistakes, before turning it in. In addition to all these contributing factors, the hupomnemata really benefited me the most. The hupomnemata is a journal used for writing down notes on the material and some things the professor said in
This chapter discussed the reflection on the project and the wider implications of the project, and demonstrated the reflection on the MA experience. In a word, the major project and the MA experience gave me an extraordinary chance to carry on the higher education and learn new and advanced learning skills.
