As a sophomore I have grown more as a student and a global citizen this second semester. I have gained more knowledge and have investigated the world even more than before. I have gained more knowledge in Science, but specifically more in Environmental Science. In Environmental Scince I was able to go on a cruise and do a hands on experiment that had to do with the marine ecosystem. This year I have also been able to investigate the world, more in AP European history and have learned about the Holocaust and how it all led up to it. I have grown in knowledge in Environmental Science and an evidence in my growth was the Marine Protection Agency Cruise. The MPA cruise was a trip that my class made to Newport Beach and do a lab experiment on the boat. My group and I were given the task of doing the section of the lab where we had to analyze the plankton species found in the protected area. The objective of our task was to find out if Crystal Cove Alliance has been doing their job and have everything stable and is at their goal. I …show more content…
As an evidence of my growth in AP European history would be when I went to the Museum of Tolerance. The Museum of Tolerance is a museum that lets you learn about the Holocaust and being able to see the point of view on a Jewish person. As well as being able to become a part of how their journey may have led them to their death. I was able to go on a tour where I had to see the life of a Jewish child during this time period and see his whole journey, and at the end of the tour I would find out if my child survived the Holocaust or died. After the tour I was also able to hear the story of a Holocaust Survivor and listen to her whole journey of life from then until today. This piece of evidence has shown my growth because I was able to see more visually a horrific time period that occurred in European history and hear it from someone that was able to witness
cut back on the problems in the Bay. Scientists have given an unthinkable amount of attention to the Bay of the past several years and researchers from countless numbers of agencies and institutions have dove deep into the issues and studying every nook and cranny to create answers to every politicians’ questions. The biggest concern with the Bay, and the most concentrated ...
Perhaps the most visible and obvious structural issue revolves around the aquarium's mission statement and goals. As noted in the case study, the original mission statement "make known the world of water through education, research, and exhibition" concentrates on its goal to bring sea life to the community. The new mission statement saw the aquarium as a "responsive community resource that attracts the broadest possible audience delivering highest quality experience" and as "a culturally diverse staff."
Learning history has given me a new perspective on the World today. I have learned how WWI and WWII shaped how the world is today – from the visions of the modern to the three-world order to globalization.
Later that year, I was accepted into Spanish Honors Society, a volunteer based program to help out the Spanish communities near my school along with volunteering to help raise money for organizations that help less developed countries. One particular project that I helped raise money for through Spanish Honors Society, was Project Running Waters. The money raised for this event was donated to help people living in Guatemala receive fresh water through pipe systems that would be built. We raised over one thousand dollars to donate to this cause. Knowing that I can positively impact individuals in my community and in other countries makes me feel like I have grown maturely and am able to understand what needs to be done to make a difference to
I had an opportunity to visit the oriental institute museum . During my visit to the museum I was made aware of its location and the importance of it to chicago. The museum housed many exhibits of historical value dating civilization back to the paleolithic period of 2,500,000-100,000 B.C. Below you'll find examples of mans rise through the use of tools and refined skills from cave living to structured living throughout evolution. This is an experience that has grounded me to a new interest in structures that we have devised to become the homes we use today for the rest of my life.
The trip to the metropolitan museum was a great trip to learn and to study art. What is art you may ask, well art is an expression you use to show a visual picture. It can be through painting or through sculptures. Some other example of art is music, literature and dancing. For today 's paper we will be talking about art as a sculpture. The two sculptures in this photo are King Sahure and a Nome God and Marble Statue of Dionysos leaning on archaistic female figure (Hope Dionysos). You can find these statues in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. King Sahure and a Nome God is an Egyptian art that was made in 2458-2446 BCE. The artist is unknown. It was during the 5th dynasty and it also belong to the old kingdom. The Marble statue of Dionysos Leaning in the archaistic female figure is a Greco-Roman art. Belonging to the Roman imperial period of the late first century A.D. Augustan or Julio-Claudian period 27 B.C., to 68 AD. It is classified as a stone sculpture and it is made out of marble. The height of the statues is 82 ¾ inches. There is no evidence who was the original artist.
One pleasant afternoon, my classmates and I decided to visit the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to begin on our museum assignment in world literature class. According to Houston Museum of Fine Art’s staff, MFAH considers as one of the largest museums in the nation and it contains many variety forms of art with more than several thousand years of unique history. Also, I have never been in a museum in a very long time especially as big as MFAH, and my experience about the museum was unique and pleasant. Although I have observed many great types and forms of art in the museum, there were few that interested me the most.
‘New museology’ is the concept of modernising museums and making them more interesting and interactive for the visitors. The District Six Museum is a good example of new museology because it is a relatively new museum that was started and run by the community, not the state and it is very different to older museums. It is very appropriate to have a museum like this in South Africa, because what happened in District Six should not be forgotten and museums like this one encourage people to visit them and find out more about what has happened. Part of new museology is to teach people more about what happened in the past by using more interactive displays; the District Six Museum does this by using a range of interesting and interactive displays.
I wanted to extend a warm welcome back to the school year and as you have no doubt noticed, life with a Senior is a little bit different! At 4 weeks in to the Senior experience and beginning to settle down, we continue thoughtfully thinking of and preparing for life post-high school. From my experience, it will reduce anxiety on many levels for students to be organized and have solid options come spring, be that world of work, trade school, gap year plans, or 2/ 4 year colleges. In order to bring that goal into fruition, planning begins now.
Sophomore year definitely had a lot of ups and down that will influence my decisions in the future. One of the most influential class I had was English. Especially managing my time. In English, we learned to analyze text in the book and it allowed me to pay more attention to the meaning in the context rather than just reading the words. English class made me think a lot and this honestly the first time I learned numerous lessons. In the past I have always waited to the last minute and procrastinate, but in English the first semester, we wrote a lot of essays that required time. the main reason I would procrastinate is because throughout middle school and freshman year, we hardly had any homework and so I was very lazy and reluctant to do work.
At one point in the last year there were three ships in Tauranga’s harbour, the were the Voyager of the Seas which held 3000 people, the Seven Seas Mariner with 700 people on board and Seaborne Odyssey with 462. These three ships were investigated by the international network Friends of the Earth, they found out that all three failed the environmental assessment set by them. Royal Caribbean international had A 's for sewage and water quality, but F for air pollution. The same goes for The Seaborne Odyssey but Regent Seven Seas Cruises is the worst with a C+ for sewage, A for water Quality and again F for air pollution. The F means that they failed to co-operate with Friends of the Earth processes. Having all three cruises in Tauranga running for a day or two would have had bad impacts in Tauranga’s clean air, the average cruise ship realises more sulphur dioxide than 13 million cars. To fix this problem, Friends of the Earth are influencing people to choose their cruise after looking at the environmental effects right now Carnival cruises has the best environmental rating. To limit air pollution at New Zealand ports, more cruises opt to use off shore power while
As a mariner its important to know about the marine life, that was one reason I have chosen this topic for my today’s short presentation.
Finally, the main thing that I have learned about myself this year is that I am responsible. Last year, the only responsibility I had was going to school. However, this year I have more responsibilities. The responsibilities I had this year interfered my ability to complete my school assignments. Fortunately, I was able to work my way around it without any complications. My after school responsibilities I had to complete on a daily basis, was reporting to yearbook on Thursdays and tutoring my friend.
Through the last 13 weeks I have learned about whom I am and what makes me who I am. I have made some great friends not only my age but also older and younger than me. I have realized many things about myself that I never would have realized if I wouldn’t have came here. College is a whole new experience that you could never imagine unless you are there. It is nothing like you read or even that you watch on TV. It is completely different and you learn a lot about yourself as a person.
On Monday, December 7th I went to visit the Natural History Museum. It was my first time going to that one and I found it very interesting. I was around freely. I walked into several different rooms that had a different idea behind each of them. The main theme behind the whole museum was just basic history. I first observed the wild animals. They were fake stuffed animals that were inside cubes. Most of these stuffed animals creeped me out but as I saw a lot of them, I felt more comfortable. They each had their own section and description. In the description it talked about where the animal came from and what they ate. I found many of the animals interesting. My favorite were the Spotted Hyenas. I then saw all the minerals that were displayed
