The novel ‘The Hunger Games’ by Suzanne Collins (2008) is a novel about a teenager named Katniss Everdeen who volunteers to compete in a death reality television show called ‘The Hunger Games.’ I agree that the text shows the people with power are controlling and manipulating the powerless. Firstly I will be discussing how the capitol manipulates and alters reality. Next how the Capitol controls the districts and how the districts a limited. Finally how if the capitol didn’t edit the hunger games the districts will erupt into rebellion.
The Capitol controls all of Panem and to keep order they must manipulate the nation by editing footage and changing the reality of ‘The Hunger Games’. When ‘The Hunger Games’ is broadcasted to Panem and the game makers need to be sure that no classified information
The Capitol gives limitations to the districts from doing things like escape or hunt. The punishment could be as severe as death. Gale and Katniss are hunting in the woods (restricted territory) when Gale gets an idea. “We could go you know… leave the district. Run off. Live in the woods. You and I we could make it.” Katniss immediately thought about how ‘preposterous’ the idea was because of how risky it was. District 12 is a very harsh environment for many reasons one being the limitations of the amount of food. “District twelve. Where you can starve to death in safety.” Starving to death is normal in district 12. During the games Katniss and Rue are talking about their districts and Rue says that when you’re farming the food as a job any sign of trying to steal could result in a punishment. “I’d thought, in district 11, you’d have a bit more to eat than us.
