So far, my favorite part of WPI is the a capella group that I am a part of. I am a part of the Ketones a Capella group, who invited me to join after the auditions (I auditioned for all three of the ensembles that accepted women). This would be my second time participating in an a Capella group; the first time was in the sixth or seventh grade, but I don’t remember it too well, so this experience still felt like a fresh and new start for me. I have really come to appreciate how different singing a capella is from singing with music. It’s a lot cooler to have every sound in the song come from the mouths of the people around you, including yourself, and adding up to form something amazing.

...join so long ago I never really knew I 'd end up here doing what I do. It seems like the common theme for me is seeing something and saying “I can 't do that” then pursuing it until I can. One of my fondest memories is watching someone at the percussion concert play a marimba solo when I was in sixth grade and just looking over at Justin molder and laughing saying “wow I can 't do that” now I do that all the time. I didn 't think I could ever be the leader of a group like this it seemed like too much for me, but now after watching and being in this program and seeing where it could go and what I can do, I want to help take it there. I feel great about next year no matter what happens but I 'm ready to step up, I 'm ready take on whatever I have to to make this year the best year yet. Not just for me but for us all every last one of us in this great family I call home.
Ever experienced cheer camp a famous college? Surround by its famous color orange and blue? Well, I did! A tremendous amount of people have their different ideas an exciting experience in their life. Although out of all of the exciting experiences I’ve ever experienced , I would have to say my favorite is when I visited The University of Florida for cheer camp my sophomore year. I was overly excited about spending four days at The University of Florida; I stayed up all night the night before packing and getting ready to finally stay at a college for four days with my fellow cheer sisters. From that experience I learned a lot about sticking together as a team, and friendship! But, most importantly, I learned that bonding together as a team is what got us to finish strong at the end. Those four days really opened my eyes to a lot of different things and I’m glad I can say that I really enjoyed myself.
Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. It is truly a talent and a hobby that I hope to continue through college and through life because of the joy it brought me and creative outlet it was throughout my
On one visit throughout my community and common environment I was able to observe three separate groups. Within this paper I will describe each group individually provide detailed information regarding body language of the group individually.
The concept of a group proposal is to form a session plan that offers therapeutic services to a certain population. To compose a planning, the procedure for this development must follow a certain framework before it is accepted by both supervisor and potential members (Corey, Corey, & Corey, 2014). Therefore, a proposal must include the purpose of creating the group session, meeting times and place, recruitment planning, and group objectives and size. Subsequently, the type of group, multicultural and diversity awareness, the use of methods related to group goals, and assessment techniques must also be taken into consideration.
As a student, practice is crucial to learn group therapy techniques. In order to achieve these practices, I attended 2 support groups of the same topic. Observation and attendance constructs an idea of how group therapy works. Attending this group was important because of the profoundness of its meaning and experiences I have witnessed.
The begging of middle school our choir consisted of Sopranos, Altos. This was mainly due to the fact that we didn’t hit puberty yet. That year I found my niche. This was exciting for me because I wasn’t like my brothers who are athletic. My 7th and 8th grade year were the years I made a difference. To add on to the Sopranos and Altos the guys were now baritones and that was a big deal. During my 7th grade year we sang Phantom of The Opera. My friend Jon and I sang a duet and received a standing ovation. The following year was just as good due to the fact we sang Broadway medley. I sang Part in the South Pacific song aint nothing like a dame. Later in that piece I had a whistling solo for the king and I. this was so cool to do because people thought I was going to sing and I shocked the by whistling. High school was a big change because we now had 4 parts: Soprano, Alto, Bass, and Tenor. Our choir consisted of 50-60 students and 40 of them were girls. I was very intimidated by this but didn’t let this stop me. I sang tenor and our section was about five people but we were the strongest section. We hosted State Large group which is where judges rate your choir you can receive division 1, 2,3,4,5. One would be the best that you could receive. We also had honor choirs you could go to. I went to one in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg College called the Meistersingers Honor choir. While I was there I sang tenor 2. This Honor choir was about 600 high school students plus the Wartburg choir. This particular honor choir was special because we sang with Simone Estes, the famous opera
In the year 3000, the planet Earth is a desolate wasteland. It has been a little over a half a century since the “big one” hit the Earth. The majority of the human race has been eliminated with only a few hundred remaining. The only ones who have survived barely made it on to the spaceship as the big one smashed the Earth. Without a doubt the most meaningful activity I have ever been involved in is 4-H. I have been a member of the Cheerful Champs 4-H club for almost ten years. When you join a 4-H club the members and leaders become your friends and family. 4-H’s mission is to provide a positive environment for kids to grow and succeed through. With such an environment 4-H hopes to give kids confidence and empower them to do whatever they hope to achieve. Empowerment turns kids into leaders and teachers. After being in 4-H so long you learn how to lead and teach the younger members of the club and others in the community. Through 4-H I have gained a family and many qualities that I will cherish for life.
Freshman fifteen is the NEW EPIDEMIC!!.. or not? In the eyes of freshman, college can be seen as entering the lion’s den when transitioning from high school. Students routines, diets, and moods drastically change resulting in an imbalance of one’s well being. As a way to cope college freshman typically look towards food for a release. Therefore, this is where the term freshman fifteen was born. Freshman fifteen is the idea that in one’s first year of attending college, the student will gain fifteen pounds. On average students are gaining weight at an abnormal pace however, it is not exactly the amount that the media has portrayed.
It’s a very rewarding feeling knowing you’ve helped someone who has been really struggling, and knowing that they trust you with their problems and that they know they can rely on you for assistance when they need it. Being involved with the musicals is some of the most fun i’ve had in my highschool career. I’ve always tried out for the highschool musical and always gotten a part, and just last year I helped the backstage crew of the middle school musical. Just being a part of it is what I like the most, being a single part in an entire production, and i’m the person who was best fit for that specific part. It makes me feel unique and different knowing that I was picked for that certain part. Last year I got my first actual lead as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard Of Oz. It had to have been the greatest experience of my life, I read my script any chance I could because I wanted to make this the best performance I have ever done, and I feel like I had
This particular English 102 class pertains to going in depth of the heroic. This means to me that we will discuss what characteristics it takes to be a hero and how those characteristics have evolved in classic stories that many of us all know in today’s society. This course will help me develop better research skills, different and more efficient writing styles, and how to communicate with others. The objective is to be able to research a specific topic from a certain academic aspect that inspires myself, which in my case is nursing. For example, nurses have a duty like heroes and they are much alike, to help save people from something that is endangering that specific person whether it be a disease or a villain. Our religion class had the pleasure of having two members of the Agape Community present to us what the Agape Community does, the people within it and what it has to offer to society. The Agape Community was founded in 1982 and has a belief system that revolves around living in a nonviolent Christian environment where one finds belief within yourself, others and family. Within the Agape community you live a life of devotion to life examples of Jesus by daily prayer, outreach programs, practice of silence, and meditation. They have morals based on the love and protection of the natural world, which correlates with resistance to war and violence. AN example of this is their outreach program where they have the Bethany Hill School which helps
My favorite musical moment during the event was when the band explained the meaning of a few songs performed. Each song announced had a different meaning and a different reason for it being written. For example, the one song was written after the Cleveland Cavaliers won the championship game and how they felt. This was interesting to hear because if you’ve grown up in Ohio for your whole life, you understand what that game meant to everyone. To hear how a song/ why a song was created was a unique experience, especially when for once you are able to relate to it. Honestly, it made the songs more interesting, since you were able to feel the passion for that song along with them!
I believe my experience in education allowed me to make valuable contribution throughout the process of designing and creating the Arts-Integrated curriculum–related lesson plan with my group. During the initial group meeting one group member was not presented and as a result I felt worried about our group being able to do a good job. In addition, the first meeting began with no direction, as members of the group presented many ideas for the project. Thus, after thirty minutes of dialogue I began to feel frustrated. After listening to my group members I finally offered the suggestion to the group for us to look at the Department of Education (DOE) of Massachusetts website as a framework to our project. I informed the group that the DOE had specific learning objectives for each grade level per subject. Interestingly, not all members of the group knew this information that I had provided. I believe this helped us as a group come together in a more focused direction of what we wanted to
