The painted cerulean sky, palm trees swaying in the distance - with the muggy weather and the views of the empty desert stretching for an eternity; a classic portrayal of a midsummer road trip through California - endless hours spent in the car, family reunion, and walks in the unbearable heat pieced one of my most memorable life trips together. If there’s one thing that I learned from this trip, it would be to live in the moment and enjoy the little things in life. Spending more than nine hours in a car definitely brings the passengers closer to each other. Imagining the distance we’d be traveling that day was overwhelming - a day-long drive from Hillsboro, OR to Chula, Vista. The summer trip we’d been planning for months was finally approaching, …show more content…
Another cycle of waking up at 5 AM was bound to start - the next morning - and napping through the notorious California traffic that everyone dreaded. I was a late bloomer - towards the end of last year, I opened up my first Harry Potter book. Stepping into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter was an experience like none other. The Hogwarts Castle standing in front of me made me question if I was living in a dream or in reality. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey took a toll on my consciousness, but witnessing events from the movies really satisfied my needs. The quidditch matches, 3D tours around the castle, Draco ridiculing Harry, and the cold fog really made it seem like I was actually inside of a Harry Potter …show more content…
That night, we ate Japanese food with my godmother and caught up for all the years where we hadn’t seen each other. An almost unbelievable encounter with a stalker and the sun that nearly broiled us - the temperature that weighed in at a whopping 108 degrees Fahrenheit - I was lucky to have ended that night floating around in a pool. Much to my dismay, it was time for us five tourists to return back to Oregon. Our 9 hour journey was delayed due to a minor car issue, which caused us to stay back about an extra hour - or two - in California. By 6 pm, we were already back home, the one place that I least wanted to be at. There are times when I catch myself missing California; the infamous SoCal weather and I may have had our hardships and fights, but I miss the swaying palm trees that decorated the sidewalks, the daily adventures, and family members that we left behind. However, I doubt that I only miss California. I also miss the little parts - the memories - of our July road trip that included the birth of our inside jokes, my endless Snapchat stories of every chosen location, and the laughter that we all shared. I realized that that whole week of adventures and the time we spent confined inside the car brought all 3 of us cousins closer together; they may have gone back to Barcelona, but 8,920 km can’t bring us apart. As L.M. Montgomery wrote, “Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember
This is actually how it felt when I would stay up until 12 am on school nights reading Captain Underpants or making it impossible to sleep by reading multiple volumes of Goosebumps. I used to completely pass my time reading little simple books like these and in return they would fill my mind with vast opportunities to allow my imagination to flourish and apply it in class. When I first picked up the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling it was comparable to when the first people proved that the world wasn’t flat, that’s how amazing it felt to be able to fully understand and talk about the books with my
As Freddy peeled out of the parking lot Charles, sitting in the passenger seat, turned on 93.3 KTNP modern rock.. The first 3 days of their trip were mainly getting out of the places they had seen time and time again. They didn’t experience much except for driving and eating as they reminisced on the past. Stopping frequently for Stanley’s immensely small bladder they reached about 50 miles the first few days. As they approached the evening on July 3rd they drove by a college, and decided to see if anyone would let them crash for the night.
I never predicted this beautiful trip ending up as a nightmare in my existence. I drove for approximately 40 minutes and my partner shared the driving for an additional 40 minutes. We were driving my friend mom’s brand new Toyota Camry XLE; one of the most comfortable cars I had ever been in. We enjoyed the elongated ride with new hit music, and air conditioning set to an exact temperature that met our necessities. On the way to the beach some doubts about going there started to circle around our minds, but the fact that we were about half way there made them a...
After two days of doing reservations for the hotel, and the other activities mentioned above, we realized our trip was closer than what we thought! On a chilled afternoon we headed to our destination the sun was going down the horizon with a beautiful sky combined with orange and yellow colors, it looked
It’s fair to say that life on the road is something most people do not desire, as a way to live out their days; but a young man named Chris McCandless believed it was necessary to avoid the venomous grips of society. McCandless goes as far as to venture out to the rest of the United States and even crossing borders to achieve his true destination, Alaska. He shows us living such a life can hold many unique and wonderful experiences. Consequently, he also shows us the difficulties that most do not expect upon leaving for such a journey. Many speak about the advantages, like the freedom they enjoy, and the wondrous relationships formed along the way; but even so, some disadvantages outweigh the advantages, like the
We continued down the infinitely long interstate towards our destination. Thunder clouds continued to rumble in, like an ocean tide rolling closer and closer to the beach front. Within minutes the entire landscape was calm and dark. It looked like a total eclipse of the sun, and the once ...
There are two main states that I would like to include on my map, California and Texas. These two places mean a lot to me in many ways. Texas is a place where I spend most my summers and other vacations at. I don't visit there regularly just because, I visit because I have most of my family from both my mom’s and dad's side. That is why I decided to put a quote about family instead of drawing out my whole family. Around it I drew a picture of the famous Texas star which lays on a mountain and looks really nice at night. In the top right corner I drew a picture of UTEP which stands for University of Texas in El Paso which is the university I wish to attend.
This weekend I was down in Louisville, Kentucky for archery. While I was in Kentucky we decided that It was not just going to be about archery, but yet to have a boisterous amount of joy whether the days were hot and the nights were crisp. All of us went to the Kentucky Derby and explored bundles of horses, consequently the stench of sweat, manure and humidity had myself hacking up a storm while my nose burned and notwithstanding the extraordinarily high temperatures as well as I had thought . Then, while we were walking around Louisville we went souvenir shopping, I honestly believe we had gone to every little shop there was; my feet were so sore it felt identical to walking on nails, I reckon the saying is true “Shop till you
The sun glistening off the chrome mirrors, the khaki top down the wind flowing through the car, the white interior stitched with red almost as if it is a baseball. The candy apple red paint glistening in the sun the two white race stripes cutting down the lanes on sand covered road, the heat of the California desert blaring off the asphalt the humid wind flowing through the cab of the car as the gas pedal is pushed to the floor the roar of the 350 tearing through the wind, the dark clouds pouring over the mountains in the distance as the car reaches 120 mph, as it reaches a curve in the middle of the road, without slowing the car barrels around the slow grade turn with ease. The seats of the car are bright white stitched with red the
The car was hot and stuffy when I slipped back into the driver's seat. I found the most depressing music I owned and drove out of Glenwood as the sun started to set. Two more hours until I was home, two more hours of thinking what a terrible day I had gone through, and two more hours of cussing myself for being so naïve. The drive was a long one.
Some people even become so enchanted with the novel that they too will wait for their acceptance letter to the magical school of Hogwarts.
Looking back on a childhood filled with events and memories, I find it rather difficult to pick on that leaves me with the fabled “warm and fuzzy feelings.” As the daughter of an Air Force Major, I had the pleasure of traveling across America in many moving trips. I have visited the monstrous trees of the Sequoia National Forest, stood on the edge of the Grande Canyon and have jumped on the beds at Caesar’s Palace in Lake Tahoe. However, I have discovered that when reflecting on my childhood, it is not the trips that come to mind, instead there are details from everyday doings; a deck of cards, a silver bank or an ice cream flavor.
I waved my family goodbye on June 1, 2015 and boarded my flight to Atlanta Georgia. That flight took two hours and the transatlantic flight took eight. Another two hours and I was in Berlin, Germany. I traveled one month in the southern part, two weeks in the north, one week on the island of Rügen, and the final week back in Berlin. I spent the time I had with family and friends, and the fleeting moments I had to myself were timeless. As a result of my trip to Germany I have changed my perspective on the world in its natural and physical inhabitants.
At last, we had arrived! It had taken us about four days to reach Los Angeles, four long treacherous days. There my aunt Yolanda and her husband came to pick us up. I recounted the events of my journey at a meal. Without asking for it, I had learned that crossing the border was the most difficult task that I would ever endure. That night my child and I slept soundly. The next morning, Pedro, my husband, came to pick us up. After about six hours we arrived to Hayward, which has been my home for almost 18 years.
However, I was only two years old when the book was released and six when the movie was premiered. I read the book after the movie debuted, but I refused to watch the movie until I read the book. I cannot remember what exactly attracted me to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, although I am
