Overview
The subtitle for this article by Kim Gittleson is "Professional education in business is a good idea, badly executed” however, the article’s primary message seems to be that graduate students have lost the real sense of why they are doing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) since business schools have failed by not guiding their students to any real sense of direction or with purpose.
Business-School Core Curriculum
Nowadays, most business schools do not offer a substantial material to their students since the curriculum does not have objectives or goals that must to accomplish and do not help the student in the future. Over time, professors who have taken courage to inculcate a sense of social mission within the class, decide to give up because their efforts are often overwhelmed by the atmosphere that lies around. Students were cautioned of not taking careers as invest the banking, as they won't help to increase their income, but they are not taking other important facts as the availability of jobs.

One of the most sought-after technology recruiters recommended that employees begin work as soon as they graduate. This leads us to think that what is learned in business school is not so important that the ability to screen. People who work in private equity do not recommend getting an MBA since organizations are willing to hire or promote even if you do not have one. The anguish is now reflected. I agree with Schmeltekopf, since ethics are an overwhelming issue in today 's business world. Since the understudies are not being told into how to suitably oversee issues and conditions ethically. I don 't assume that its reasonable business universities coming up short here however in light of the fact that paying little personality to a people picked calling there are moral issues that will rise and with everything taken into account our overall population isn 't all around organized to oversee them.
In "Becoming a Real Person", Davis Brooks weighs on the notion of the purpose of college. He claims that there are three ways that college aims to lead us. The cognitive objective teaches us knowledge and how to correctly use it, the moral role helps us build a unique individual self, and the commercial role leads us toward a future career. These three roles play a part in improving an individual's future prospects. While I agree on the importance these roles take, Brooks undermines the significance of moral education in higher education.
For most people who want to pursue and can afford higher education, and also is ready to suffer from debt; the option is always available. Whether it’s to continue on achieving a bachelor’s degree, after gaining a high school diploma, or from a master’s to a PhD; when entering the job market with these degrees, which states that these graduates are certified to work in a specific field; they’ve majored in at a university, college and technical school; the graduates are now looking to be employed at a job that will provide a good salary; this will allow them to make a living for themselves and/or family. The article made me revaluate my decisions. I also asked myself if I were sure of what I wanted to major in. As Brooks mentioned nowadays it’s hard for young adults to find a decent job after graduating. Not only that, but if you are in a competitive major like business, accounting, and even criminal justice, the chances of you getting a job can be very limited. I have personally seen a couple of my friends with Bachelor degrees working a fast food restaurant or doing something else, that has nothing to do with their major earning minimum wage. Many people have degrees nowadays and the hunt for jobs seems to become more competitive everyday. I still have a couple of years before I achieve my goal of getting my degree. The way the work force is getting so competitive, by the time I finally receive my bachelors degree, the chances of me finding a job are going to narrow
While other children watched their favorite cartoon or played their favorite video game, reading business articles and watching the fluctuations seen in the stock market enthralled me. Renowned leaders in the business world have always been of interest to me, specifically Warren Buffet. My favorite quote by Buffet is “It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than you and you’ll drift in that direction.” By attending CMU, I would personify this quote. Growing up, my parents have instilled into me, many essential values, such as working hard and “being the best me I could be.” I have always expected a lot from myself, but high expectations from my parents and close friends, have increased my work ethic and lifted my goals and aspirations even higher. For that reason, I hope to challenge myself through the prestigious Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Science’s economics curriculum. The undergraduate economics program would prepare me for a vast array of careers. Jobs in policy, law, and business are all possible, or if one desires to go to some sort of post graduate school, that is also possible. By having such a top-notch education, I would surely be closer to achieving my goal of receiving my MBA from Tepper. In making all this possible, a wide range of classes must be made available. Classes that are available in just about any economics curriculum, like Intermediate Economics, are also available here, but classes like Behavioral Economics and Global Electronic Markets are what makes CMU unique. Louis Menand, a professor of English and American literature at Harvard University presented three different theories for higher education in an article for The New Yorker named, Live and Learn: Why We Have College. Menand (2011) claims that the reasons for college are meritocratic, democratic, and vocational. These theories are great models for the purpose of higher education in our culture, at different points in our history. As a nation, there are definite intentions behind the way that instruction is conducted in our colleges and universities. The techniques adopted by institutions of higher education are no mistake and they are designed to serve a purpose. These methods evolve with time and shape the way that generations think and reason. In our generation, the purpose of higher education in our culture is to sustain the nation atop of the worldwide economy.

The most valuable education I have ever received used the banking method, but in a way other than Freire describes. Freire’s criticism is mostly accurate, but his philosophies are a bit too radical and his propositions far too vague.

As we all know that money don’t’ bring all of the happiness; however, it is one of the main sources for reaching higher potential and goals. There are thousands of examples used as a reference by certain authority figures that became successful in the business world that enables others to dispute the benefit of having a higher education. The list starts with Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, Richard Branson, Michael Dell, and Steve Wozniak, all of them either did not learn or finished obtaining a degree. Generally, the list of successful people with higher education is much longer. Furthermore, when we talk about finances, the most successful investors not only have had higher education, they also had higher financial education, and such people include: Warren Buffet, George Soros, Peter Lynch. In the business world, too, such people are not enough. Finally, Google, for instance, was a ultimate graduate project of Sergei Brin and Larry Page. Who knows, if they would have dropped out of the university, then all of us would still have to use the search of Yahoo. Diverging paths stretching into the horizon, the worn pathway is a bumpy road of uncertainty in arduous labor; this tattered avenue juxtaposes the golden path, radiating with one’s aspirations, a road trip made possible by the vehicle branded “college”, driving individuals to destination dream. It is true that academic pursuit of education is rigorous and many systems of education are needed to be incorporated. However, if banking education is consumed over problem-posing education, then we dehumanize the persons in the system when we should in fact driving towards a liberating experience for them.
Education has always been a primary concern for my parents, who taught me that if I need to succeed in life, I have to be educated. Following their guide, I have always valued and tried to get the most of any educational opportunity I have had. Having grown up in a business family, I have always been interested in focusing my career in the business field. My Mother and Father own their own company, and they are constantly talking about business, which has inspired me to follow their path. When my parents retire, they want me to carry on their legacy. For this reason, I have decided to pursue my studies in the field of Business and Leadership at Marylhurst University. I want to pursue a well-rounded education at this established university where I also can have life experiences in the outside world, which will ultimately help me to become a successful leader in our family business.
This essay has shown that some of the most important elements for business students to be successful in their career are time management practices, greater knowledge and skills related to time management and how business studies can help lead to successful business career by linking theories studied with real experiences in the workplace.
