Boom! Bang! Tires skidding across the pavement with children screaming. It all started April 27th, 2009. I went home on bus number one after school. It was a normal day, until we were hit by a Dodge pickup. Paramedics took all of us from bus number one to the Manchester hospital, and the driver of truck got airlifted to Iowa City.
It all happened on Hwy 13. The driver of the truck fell asleep and crossed the centerline, but he lived. The two in the truck with him both died. I was sitting in the front seat of the bus, Daniel Woods was sitting across from me. Our busdriver, Mary Gentz, was driving. I told Daniel to duck, so we both did. Then there was a huge crash. After we hit I could smell blood, oil and antifreeze. There was lots of commotion and all moving around to get out.
Everyone on the bus went running to the back door, we tried to open the door and it would not open. We tried to kick the windows out of the back door but it did not work. Then we went out through the windows on the side of the bus. We all got off and ran to the other side of the road into the ditch. Most of the bus riders were injured and shook up. The first responders came and secured the area, they also moved the guys out of the truck. A tarp was used to

I had a little cut on my finger and my sister had her wrist x-rayed but no damage. My parents had to wait to see us and finally we got to see each other after about an hour. We were sitting in the hospital and, Mom asked the lady from school how driver and riders in the truck were doing. She said “Not good”. We did not know there was more than one in the truck at that time. Then my mom received a cell phone call from my aunt to tell us it was on the news that two were killed in the truck with news coverage showing video of the scene. Eventually we got to go home as Mr. Stanek got our backpacks off the bus. We were free to leave but still very shook
1. Nine year old Jerry stumbled into a drug store, which is usually open late with very few attendants, gasping for breath. Blood was oozing from a small hole in his chest wall. When paramedics arrived, they said that Jerry had suffered a pneumothorax and atelectasis. Just what do both these terms mean and how do you explain his respiratory distress? How will it be treated?
The car would not go, and none of the electronics in the car would work either. We were just sitting there in silence. All I could think about was how we were going to get out of this terrible place. It was as if our life was flashing before our eyes. Suddenly the radio turns back on. Jingle bells is playing and the music was turned up as loud as it goes. Immediately we all scream. We were all speechless and didn’t know what to do. Jingle Bells only played for a short time and then the radio just went to static. It was as if we would never get out this
On May 14th, 1988 a group of children and adults from the First Assembly of God Church in Radcliff, Kentucky got aboard a Ford built 1977 Superior B-700 school bus and headed to King’s Island amusement park. King’s Island is located about 170 miles from Radcliff where the church is located. After spending the whole day at the amusement park, the group got on the bus and began traveling on Interstate seventy-one in northern Kentucky back to Radcliff. At about 10:45 P.M. while heading south on Interstate 71 just outside of Carrollton, Kentucky, the bus collided with a black pickup truck driven by Larry W. Mahoney.
I woke up my dad and told him that it was already light outside. He jumped out of bed and said we had to go. I went outside and started up the truck while my dad was getting dressed. When I opened the door to the trailer I noticed clear blue skies and a light frost that covered the ground. I jumped in the driver's seat of the 1990 white GMC Sierra, pushed in the clutch, and turned the key. The truck hesitated for about ten seconds and then started. I turned on the defroster and the windshield wipers so we wouldn?t have to scrape the frost.
When I was at school I broke my wrist. My friends and I were playing on the slide and I fell off into the dirt and landed on my wrist. When I heard “crack”, I knew something was wrong and needed to go tell the teacher. Holding my wrist I ran to Mrs.Kathy and told her that something was wrong with my wrist. We ran to the nurse because she thought it was severely damaged based on the way it was dangling. An ice pack was put on my wrist to control the swelling. My dad was given a phone phone call and was told that I had hurt my self on the playground. Rushing from work my dad was to coming get me and on the way he picked up my brother from high school, they later arrived at the elementary school. We hastily went to the emergency room because my wrist was getting sizeably larger. By the time we achieved our destination, my mom was waiting patiently for us.

As you can imagine I was contributing my fair share of all the clamor, but after about seven hours it soon became apparent that the effect of energy drinks would wear off. If you could have been there and looked around you would have seen some people reading, other talking amongst themselves; however, I was playing halo on my laptop. About two hours later after just getting into Colorado everything bad you can imagine started happening. I was asleep at this time, but when I heard the loud BOOM!, SNAP!, and HISS, I was instantly awake and wondering what had just happened. At first everyone thought it was just a blow out, but after our youth pastor got out and checked all the tires it soon became clear that there was a much bigger problem at hand. So our youth pastor decided we should call a mechanic and a tow truck, the problem was deciding if we should call...
suited up.I slid down the pole to the Truck I and my whole crew gets inside the Truck ready to roll. We open the garage and pulled out and there was Debris everywhere. We was driving down the streets with our sirens on and there were People running and screaming everywhere and banning on the Truck.
It was July 22nd when I got the phone call that my great grandma was in the hospital. It was so shocking to me I didn’t even know what to think I had just been up there to see her two days ago prior to then. My dad had called me and told me in a calm but of course I know my dad to well to know that he was calm but actually pretty scared and frantic. I was at work and a perk to my job is that I work at a family owned business that is actually close to my family.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
A family friend, Rose Widmer, came over as my mom and dad were getting ready to leave. She would be staying with us because it looked like they would not be coming home that night. As Kelly and I were eating our supper, my mom came into the kitchen and sat down beside me. She explained to us that our dad was very sick, and that he was having trouble with his brain. She used the term "brain abscess." She said that this is what the doctors speculated was wrong with him, but they needed to go to Fort Wayne to take precautions.
This Sunday began as so many others did with yard work and things around the house. The difference was my oldest son had stayed the night at a friend’s house and was calling to be picked up. I got in our Pontiac G6 and began on my way, heading westbound on Northline Rd. I stopped at the traffic light on the corner of Northline and Allen Rds. All of a sudden from out of nowhere I was struck from behind.
My only worry now was how I was going to get off this truck. My chance came when the driver stopped, got out and walked over to a guard. They were talking very fast in a language I couldn't understand. It was now or never. I climbed down the side of the truck and opened the passenger door, I slid in.
Oh my God! TJ!“ It was just my mom.She was crying and calling my name again and again.I was so embarrassed and disappointed of my self.I had let her down. After, two of the EMT guys put us on an ambulance. Finally,we made our way to the hospital. My friend john and me were sent in palo alto medical center. It took us about fifteen minute to get there. My friend john was alright. He had a couple of stitches in his head and his arm. He got relieved after a couple of tests but, I was severely injured. I was lying on a hospital bed and thinking what I would have done in the past. Cause this terrible accident happened to me. I was sent to el camino hospital, where I went to the operation theater for my hipbones surgery. The doctor told me after surgery that my hipbones was fractured the reason they had to put a plate in hipbones to stay together.Although, my left arm was also fractured the reason I could not feel my arm. After surgery, they took me to the other room and gave me a couple of injections. Momentarily, I went to sleep. I woke up in the next day and thinking hopefully it was just a dream, but it’s not. I opened my eyes and saw a couple of relative looking me like a stranger. My dad came over my bed and gave me a hug and I literally started crying after thinking about the accident. I could not believe after a massive car accident I was still alive. Doctors kept in hospital couple of
Years ago I had the most terrifying, shocking day of my life. I had between seven or eight years when this happened. The day before the accident, all my family was at my grandfather’s house. We all were eating the food my mother and my aunts brought, telling jokes at the dinner table. Meanwhile, I was playing with my cousins in the backyard. Everyone was enjoying the family meeting. As the time passed by and everyone was about to go home, my mother suggested the idea that we all should go at my grandparent’s ranch next day, since everyone was in town we all could have the chance to go. Everyone liked the idea. It was the perfect time to go because it was a weekend. As they all agreed to go, they begun to decide who bring what to the gathering. Who would have thought that thanks to that suggestion, I would lead me to the hospital the day of the reunion.
