Narrative Review
The objective of this teaching experience was to teach a specific motor skill to Bug, who is another student in my Physical Therapy class. The motor skill I selected to teach was a burpee. Before we began, I anticipated three things, we would meet for roughly four days, she had a general idea of what a burpee was, and in the end she would complete a burpee without any problems or need for feedback. The following paragraphs will discuss, the objective of my teaching, Bug’s behaviors during our interactions, her motor skill level through our meetings with regards to Blooms Taxonomy, and a description of how I modified information to help the learning style of Bug.

This conclusion was made because I noticed that when I would try to explain the steps to a particular movement with no visual representation, but just words, then she would have difficulty completing the movement. In comparison, when I showed her the movement by completing it myself and had her mirror my movements, then she would complete the tasks much quicker and learn them much faster. Upon determining she was a visual and kinesthetic learner, I skipped explaining movements without demonstration from then on. Each time I taught her a new portion of the burpee; I would demonstrate and explain the movement part by part, have her mirror my movements while reiterating the same instructions as I had given in the first step, have her complete the movement on her own but give immediate feedback, and lastly, she would continue to practice that movement at least three times thereafter. At the completion of the second visit, I asked if my instructions were helping or if I needed to modify anything to optimize her learning. At this point in time, she told me that the teaching layout did not need to be changed because it was clear and easy to

Sometimes, there are words in the story that are utilized more than twice, I would make them repeat the words, read them repeatedly, and even learn to spell the words, however when I gave him an activity in which the word is feature he even though he recognizes the words, but he could not pronounce it. Narrative research is a qualitative methodological approach in research (Bedford & Landry, 2010. Since the early 1980s, narrative inquiry has been emerging in regards to individual life stories. Storytelling is closely related to psychoanalytic tradition. Narrative research, consist of a multiple of approaches, that are apart of social constructionism, which is guided by the philosophical assumptions of an interpretive constructivist paradigm (Patsiopoulos & Buchanan, 2011). On Sunday March 19, 2017 there was an alleged crime at Pitt River Middle School, the former Mary Hill Secondary. On the day of the crime the school janitor was in the school to supervise the sports group. Shortly after he (Mr Bradley) discovered the plaque of Terry Fox went missing, he called in for help asap. The students attending school the next few weeks were surprised very shocked to notice the missing plaque upstairs where the lockers and staff room are located.The first time I was notified by a fellow student it looked like the backing of the plaque was ripped off aggressively, markings of a shoe print and 2 finger prints. The stimulations were really eye opening. I was able to see through the eyes of a child with a learning disability in different areas. I always understood that children who have learning disabilities learned differently, but I didn’t imagine how extreme the difference could be. The problems were hard for me and became frustrating. I now know firsthand how frustrating it can be for students who have learning disabilities in different areas. It’s amazing what extra time or shorter questions can do to help increase understanding. I realize that some things that come naturally to me may be extremely difficult for someone who learns differently. As a new teacher, I will make sure to teach children strategies and develop assignments that increase student understanding.
This task draws on prior knowledge; a vital process during inferential learning. The class will record what they know and want to learn. “What we Learned” (L) is the final section to be recorded upon completion of the unit topic. Students will also watch and read information report text types about life cycles of plants and/or animals. Students will then use egg cartons, soil, water and seeds to during a scientific, sensory lesson during which they plant seeds to grow. Cooperative learning and feedback are also key strategies within this instructional unit. Students will use rubrics, a form of feedback, to observe each other’s performance. Students will then discuss the rubric with the peer observed in order to praise correct techniques demonstrated. Likewise, the use of this peer observation will allow students to have an insight the techniques they are displaying that are improper and offer advice on how to correct these errors.
Despite the advantages of having the extent of man’s knowledge at one’s fingertips, technology is not the best learning tool within the classroom. A teacher may differentiate the content by designing activities for students that cover a variety of Bloom’s Taxonomy levels. This allows for students to build upwards and motivates them to strive to grow out of their level. Students are engaged in activities that enrich their individual minds. Some students may be involved in buddy reading, some may listen to a book on tape, and some may even read chapter books.

There could have been more accommodations made for my students categorized as special, and I also do feel that I needed to give more prompt feedback to assure mastery of the concepts that I was teaching. These problems could have be alleviated with the use of guiding questions, answer choices, and graphic organizers. A strength that I am proud of maintaining is my effective classroom management and my use of a guided inquiry lesson. These components kept my lesson engaging, fun, and encouraged the students to be more autonomous as I helped them to construct their own knowledge about plants. Things that I did lack in my lesson was informing the students of the purpose of the lesson and the activities that I have planned for the lesson after performing my anticipatory set. As I mentioned previously, the teaching method that I used was guided inquiry. At this stage, we are not only encouraging our students to be the constructors of their own knowledge, but we are also encouraging them to be more independent as well. Using this teaching method provides students with some practice in using inquiry processes. All in all, I have noticed much improvement in my teaching compared to my last videotaped lesson, but there are still some important things that I need to work on: prompt feedback, and providing accommodations to meet the needs of all of my
