In this experiment, a lit candle was placed in jars to prove if more oxygen in the present environment would affect the duration of the flame. During the experiment, a burning candle was put in three differnent sized jars labled, ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’ from smallest to largest in their order. The flame was then measured to determine how long it lasted in the individual jars. If more oxygen is present in the environment, then a fire will last longer. The hypothesis that a lit candle will last longer with more oxygen is supported by the acquired data because the flame had lasted significantly longer (a differnece of of approximately 26 seconds) in Jar C than Jar B. This is also similar when comparing the duration of the flame in Jar B and Jar
The Armenian genocide ruins Vahan Kenderian’s picture-perfect life. Vahan is the son of the richest Armenian in Turkey and before the war begins, he always has food in his belly and a roof over his head in the book Forgotten Fire by Adam Bagdasarian. Life is absolutely quintessential for Vahan, until the war starts in 1915, when he endures many deaths of his family, losses of his friends, and frightening experiences in a short amount of time. He is a prisoner of war early in the book and is starved for days. As he goes through life, he is very unlucky and experiences other deaths, not just the deaths of his family. Vahan ultimately becomes the man his family would want him to be.
In Lavoisier’s Memoir in Combustion in General, the author emphasizes the importance of organizing experimental data to form new theories. Specifically, he encourages hypothesis testing and trial-and-error to better understand the laws of nature. Lavoisier apply these principles to his own theory by outlining the observations from combustion and calcification, and by hypothesizing the properities of “pure air” and “the matter of fire”.
...-value indicate that the null hypothesis cannot be rejected and the presence of tobacco in the Goldfish water may not have had an effect on the metabolism of the fish. These results indicate that there may not have been an effect in exposure for 10 minutes with a very slight amount of tobacco present in the water. For future experimentation, the concentration of tobacco, medium in which the tobacco is delivered, or exposure period prior to recording data may have provided us with different results. Beside the experimental factors, the numbers may have also been skewed in the presence of two outliers in both the control group and experimental group. To identify which fish may be the outlier or to offset the effect of an outlier, it may be beneficial for future experimentation to test each fish individually to increase the sample size.
Catching Fire: How Coooking Made us Human by Richard Wrangham is a fresh perspective on the evolution of humankind. Wrangham has made a concentrated effort to prove that humans have evolved particular adaptations, like bipedalism, due to the introduction of cooked foods into their diet. In his book, he is legitimately arguing that humans are the way they are because early on in human evolution, early man discovered fire, discovered the joys of cooked foods, and developed all sorts of fascinating traits still being utilized today.
For thousands of years, before modern electrical lighting systems were developed, candles existed not for decoration but for the sole purpose of providing artificial light in millions of homes.
In the case between the Firestorm Smokejumpers and Jake Kurzyniec and the new crew chief the firefighting company has the applicants meet special condition for being able to attain the employment within the company; therefore, the applicants have to pass through special medical examination as well as be an exceptional paratrooper. Jake Kurzyniec fills out the application for the position as a fire fighter and passes the medical examination as well as signing the contract with the company. However, in the meantime the old chief of the fire brigade left and a new fire chief stepped in and rejects Jake Kurzyniecs application. However, Jake Kurzyniec had already satisfied all the pre-conditions of the previous contract and did all of the qualification
In “Barn Burning” the setting is a time when people drove horse wagons and the workingmen were generally farmers. The major character in this story is Colonel Sartoris Snopes, called “Sarty” by his family who is a ten-year-old boy. In the beginning, Sarty is portrayed as a confused and frightened young boy. He is in despair over the burden of doing the right thing or sticking by his family, as his father states,” You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain’t going to have any blood to stick to you.”
The hypothesis for the glow sticks in different temperature experiment was accepted. The data used for the experiment that supports my hypothesis was that the glow stick in the glass cup filled with two hundred thirty-five milliliters of filtered cold water illuminated the longest. This glow stick in the cold water lasted on average of all three trials for ten hours and thirty-six minutes. The cold glow stick lasted three hundred and sixty-six more minutes compared to the lowest lasting time of which the hot water glow stick lasted. On average the hot water lasted four hours and nineteen minutes, and the room temperature glow stick lasted eight hours and fifty-seven minutes. I think the cold water lasted the longest because molecules move slow in cold water, causing it to slow the reaction down which made it last longer. In this experiment the outside factor might have been the color of the glow sticks which was pink. This may have also had an effect of how long
The main purpose of this lab was to conduct an experiment with tobacco seeds in different environments to see if it could change the phenotype of the seedlings. My hypothesis for this lab was that the environment has an influence on the development of a phenotype. My hypothesis was supported in two different ways. First of all, after switching the environment, we had more green seedlings than what we started with due to the chlorophyll being activated with the light. Second of all, we had seeds that had the chlorophyll gene sprout an Albino stem. Even when we conducted the experiment we found similar results. This is supported because when we first started the experiment, we had 25 seeds in the dark and 25 in the light. Although the first seedlings
My study is based on the communication techniques used by Yankee Candle CEO Harlan Kent and his employees as he goes undercover at four different locations to gain a better understanding of his company and how operations take place when he is not around.
Does changing the length of the carbon chain effect the heat of combustion of water when heated for 2 minutes?
