The mean kids on The Playground
Bullies are, as defined by a dictionary, “a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.” This is a pretty accurate definition to what a bully is, but with other aspects such as family, or home life, it is not to black and white. Defining bullying, why do bullies bully, how to stop it, and Family issues are all main topics that will be covered. Bullying can be a very serious matter, and if someone you know is getting bullied stand up for them, or help them in any way you can.

That may be the case sometimes, but not always. Some do it to get attention, some do it because their home life is terrible, or because it makes them feel better about themselves. “About 77% of students have been bullied” (Meline). That means out of one hundred students, seventy seven of them have been bullied at least once in their lifetime. Sometimes, bullies don’t even think that what they are saying has an effect on the other person. “Children may be victimized based on their physical appearance, such as weight or build, for being quiet or passive, or for standing our among their peers for whatever reason , even in a positive manner. Children are also bullied for their social status” (Meline). If children have a disability (mental or physical) it really affects their life and they become an easy target for bullies. Bullying kids with disabilities is not okay, they can not help the fact that they are different. “Educators and all those involved in education must receive the proper training to be able to identify what differentiate bullying from normal child play” (Meline). Teachers and everyone else who is involved in a child's education need to be properly trained in order to catch bullies, but even though they are properly trained they often will still miss it. Bullying and friends taunting each other are very similar and hard to tell apart, so if you feel you are being bullied and no one is doing anything about it, it could be because they think you are two friends who like to make fun of eachother as friends do. The most important step to end bullying is telling a parent, or a trusted adult. “14% of students have been bullied their whole life” (meline). Wow, out of one hundred students fourteen of them will be bullied their whole school life. Over half of these students have a disability that they can not control, and need others help to end their bullying. If you are afraid to go to a teacher or adult, at least talk to a friend about it.
