Wednesday March 21, 2017 is probably one of the most important nights for Branch 3 of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the relevance of this night is a direct map to our future. This night is the night that we nominate our leaders.
As an employee of the USPS and a member of the NALC, Branch 3 for the past 25 years…I find the highest amount of dissent throughout our union leadership. When I speak of leadership, I am speaking directly about our entire structure. This structure starts from our branch president down to our station union stewards.
Now please don’t get me wrong, when placing blame upon any one person, but when we see this big divide by our members, I’m convinced that this rift falls directly on the shoulders
My initial thought about this painting is that it seems to be incorrect. The reflection in the mirror shows that the lady is looking in the direction of the man standing in front of her. If the lady is looking at the man their reflections should not be off to the side. The second observation is the lady is sad or disappointed and is looking past the man standing in front of her. My last observation is there are three sections from left to right; bottles and the audience, the lady, and the reflections of the lady and man. The most interesting concept about this artwork is how the reflections seem to be inaccurate. If the bottles and the reflections of the lady and the man standing in front of her are at an angle, then why are the vertical lines perpendicular to each other?
...reams and seek change. In order to be a leader one must be willing to do what they ask of others. Even while I would always be there to provide guidance and help lead the way, I would never ask members to do something I am unwilling to do myself. Whether its picking up trash from the highway, leading groups at a CDE contest, or standing in the freezing cold to ring the Salvation Army bell, I am always willing to serve along my fellow members.
I wish I had enrolled in the RN-BSN program sooner than this time. Before the RN-BSN program, I did not fully understand my role as a nurse. I had no knowledge of the functions of the Nurse Practice Act and the Board of Nursing. Nursing research was just a part of nursing curriculum. I have no prior knowledge of the evidence based practice. However, my trajectory into the RN-BSN program changed all that. I feel more confident and equipped as a professional nurse now than before. My two specific examples of change in behavior as a result of RN-BSN program are, one, changes in my skills and two, attitudes toward family dynamics, values and believes. Scapegoats appear abundant in the world today. Political parties and businesses consistently seem to find a person or small group that takes the blame for serious issues. This can cause problems and arguments that sometimes lead to something serious like wars. Scapegoats are just a way of passing blame off of oneself and on to others, just so reputations can remain intact. This sort of attitude shows how lethargic the world has become, where people don’t even take responsibility for their actions. Many people from older generations complain about how all the new generations become too comatose and unwilling to take on their own actions and indiscretions. With attitudes like this, peace will never be found and will inevitably lead to conflict. Something must be done to stem the flow of scapegoats which have been utilized far too much over time.
We must guard against partisanship and promote comprise in our government by changing its structure; one of the ways this can be done is by preventing factions that influence the judgment of our representatives from forming. This is a very important issue to solve because the power that factions have on our politicians personally and politically makes them less likely to vote on important legislation. The two ways to do this are as follows: (1) remove its causes to keep them from forming and (2) Control its effects (Kernell, 2013, p. 77). In utter ignorance and complete incompetence strike down those who are: different; misunderstood; meek and those who are more liberal than the next man.

Derek Sivers gave a brief TED talk entitled “How to start a movement” that is a great example of how important followers are and how they make or break a leader. In his presentation, he discusses the importance of the first follower in launching a movement. The premise is that while a leader may have the courage to stand alone it is the first follower that attracts others to join the organization and stand behind a leader. Followers typically have less authority and influence than their boss does. Followership, however, relates to the role those followers have in supporting the boss and the organization. Interestingly, while not everyone is a leader, every leader is a follower and answerable to someone whether that is a superior officer, a board of directors, or in the case of the United States President, the American people. The best leaders are also truly adept followers.
Leadership takes a lot of responsibility and confidence. Many people that are out there in the world is too afraid or embarrassed to go out and speak up for groups or just your family or just they don't even know where to start with speaking out and being a leader. Management’s application of leadership is crucial in the continued drive to maintain employee engagement inside the company, as well as with suppliers. FedEx depends on engaged employees to execute operations at all levels. This commitment is tethered to the third element of FedEx’s mission; “FedEx will strive to develop mutually rewarding relationships with its team members, partners, and suppliers. Safety will be the first consideration in all operations (FedEx2, n.d.).” The company commissioned Real Time Performance (n.d.) to study and evaluate employee engagement through a “360-feedback” process. As defined by Kellerman (2008), there are five types of followers: bystanders, isolates, participants, activists, and diehards. At any given point, an organization can include members who fall into some or all of these categories. The isolates care very little for their leaders and the organization and generally just want to get the job done and do not respond well to leadership. In fact, isolates resent the idea of leadership. Bystanders on the other hand, are those followers who follow passively, observing from the side, rarely getting involved. They do not resent leadership as the isolates do, but offer very little support to the leaders. Participants care about the group/organization and generally want to make an impact, if they feel that the leader will support them. On the other hand, activists have strong beliefs about the organization and their leaders. If they agree with their leaders, they follow them almost blindly, but if they do not, they work to get rid of their leaders. Those employees with the highest level of engagement within an organization are diehards. If they agree with the path their leaders is taking them down is the right direction, they will follow. However, if they think their leader is destructive, “imposing goals on constituents without their agreement of regard for their long-term welfare” (Padilla et al., 2007, pg.177), then these followers
Since the establishment of the two-party political system, both Republicans and Democrats have evolved to reflect the times. Factionalism in politics is not a new idea, but recent years have seen multiple subgroups in both parties emerge. In the 2016 Presidential Primary, the subgroups within each political party are omnipresent. With the primaries under way, the Democrats have two disparate candidates in Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Hillary Clinton is the front-runner and apart of the establishment while Bernie Sanders seems to be the new progressive leader. Although factionalism can be beneficial because it allows all viewpoints to have representation, it also affects the electorate and the political system.
Working in groups is challenging at times. Other times it is very rewarding. We are so focused on life that we do not take time to reflect on things as much as we should. Being in a Groups class has opened my eyes to a whole new world. I have begun to question, explore, and even understand how things work. I even get how they work sometimes. Not only is there a process involved in making individual decisions, process is involved in group decisions as well. This paper attempts give insight into my reflection of my group decision process.
