I wish I had enrolled in the RN-BSN program sooner than this time. Before the RN-BSN program, I did not fully understand my role as a nurse. I had no knowledge of the functions of the Nurse Practice Act and the Board of Nursing. Nursing research was just a part of nursing curriculum. I have no prior knowledge of the evidence based practice. However, my trajectory into the RN-BSN program changed all that. I feel more confident and equipped as a professional nurse now than before. My two specific examples of change in behavior as a result of RN-BSN program are, one, changes in my skills and two, attitudes toward family dynamics, values and believes. The complexities of nursing practice, healthcare policies, and patients' needs lead to the

While the transition from LPN to RN provides these opportunities, however, as I go deeper into the RN program, I have come to realize that, the role of the RN is much more than that, the role of the RN goes beyond the increased of skills, education and the financial stability. In fact, being an RN in my view, is more than a profession, it is a calling. This call comes with a greater purpose and much more engagement in the care of the patient. The RN role calls for a
Many may argue that one is just as capable as the other in offering patient care. But recent studies conducted by Aiken et al. have shown nurses educated at higher levels are better prepared for delivering optimal patient care. One of the key eliminates is evidence-based practice. BSN programs provide the knowledge and preparation needed for evidence-based prac...
My score on the PRCA-24 was a 100 which lands me in the high level of communication apprehension area. A further breakdown of my score is as follows: Group Discussion-26, Meetings-26, Interpersonal Conversations-24, and Public Speaking-24. Since I am a very antisocial person, I knew my score would be very high. I am so antisocial that I rarely order my own food at a fast food restaurant when I am with a group. This type of situations will only intensify as I begin public speaking, so I am in desperate need of management strategies. After reading the first few chapters of the book, I have produced the strategies below.
The College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is the governing body of all registered nurses in Ontario and is regulated. The CNO provides expectations and guidelines to follow, which need to be met by each Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) individually. As a nursing student, I am taught about the CNO and the importance of referring back to the guidelines while caring for patients. While gaining experiencing in the nursing field through my clinical settings, I have realized as a nursing student there are areas I need further development in. In this paper, I will address two of my learning needs and my goal for each. I will also discuss the plan I created in order to successfully meet my learning needs prior to becoming an RPN, and

Transitioning from academic nursing student to Registered Nurse/New Graduate Nurse (NGN) within the healthcare environment is a challenging task for many NGNs. They may encounter a number of challenges, such as the following: transition shock, professional isolation, lack of clinical experience, stress, lack of a support network and cultural incompetence. At the end, this essay will discuss the rationale for developing my two most important goals for the next twelve months.
As part of my HNC study, I will look to define and discuss the importance of reflection. I will be using a variety of sources such as books, web pages, articles and journals in order to gather information. Which in return will allow me to explain why reflection is of such importance.
My strengths, with writing FBA’s, is my confidence with gathering and compiling the interviews, collecting the data, and my ability to develop a working relationship with all parties involved with the process. Secondly, it’s my goal to provide a detailed, accurate document that gives a clear description of the student’s behaviors.
Newly graduated nurses lack clinical skills necessary to evolve professionally and carefully from academics to bedside practice (Kim, Lee, Eudey, Lounsbury & Wede, 2015). How scary is that not only for the patient but also for the new nurse himself or herself? While being faced with new challenges, an increasing amount of newly graduated RNs felt overcome and unqualified. Twibell and Pierre explain how new nurses express “disillusionment” about practice, scheduling, and being rewarded. Frustration and anger between employees play a huge part in NGNs resigning because of the lack of experience and knowledge of what to do in high stress situations (2012). Nursing residency programs have proven to directly improve patient care, develop critical
Nursing is ever-evolving. Healthcare in general is becoming more sophisticated, which requires an increase in knowledge and education, as well as the need for nursing staff to be able to think critically. As medical advances are at an all-time high, reimbursement from state and private insurance has decreased. These factors lead to a greater need of autonomy and evidence-based research by RN’s (Huston, 2014)
In this reflective analysis of NAEYC Standard three, Observing, Documenting, and Assessing to Support Young Children and Families, I will first reflect on my growth, as an early childhood professional, during my course of study. Secondly, I will address my strengths related to the standard and discuss areas in need of further professional development. Finally, I will outline my goals for future growth and development. Early childhood educators demonstrate professional competence by understanding the role of assessment and the various methods of assessing student learning, including observation, documentation and standardized testing. These assessment strategies, along with partnerships with parents, can support students in their development and growth, by informing instruction and evaluating instructional practices.
The BSN program helps the nurses in many ways including utilizing the process to the full scale and it will encourage nurses to use their skills like educating the patient as we’ll as creating new nurses. Because of the new health care reform, the BSN program will also aid in filling the gap from the influx of patients. The baccalaureate degrees and BSN program helps prepare students for the significant part they are going to play in reinforcing the new healthcare reform. At present, I utilize and develop nursing care plans in the nursing process, even though it needs some corrections due to the nature of my work. The highest standards of nursing can only be achieved through better research and advanced training.
The Consensus Model is reprinted in the appendix of the Institute of Medicine report and is “recognized by policy makers and others outside of nursing as foundational to the future of APRN practice” (Stanley, p. 242). Stanley (2012) discusses the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Report, Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, that supports the AACN in reorganizing the role and impact of APRNs to practice to the full extent of their education and training; collaborate with other professionals in addressing healthcare issues in the United States; and work as full partners with other health care professionals. Dennison & Payne (2012) describe the characteristics of the nurse interested in the DNP degree as “those committed to a career focusing on nursing practice and improving patient outcomes.” and “APRNs in direct
