The Boys Varsity and JV sprints team performed admirably during the winter season. Under the new leadership of Coach Melanie Rhoden, the boys competed in several invitationals as well as the conference and regional meets. After a difficult round of tryouts in November, the new 2016-2017 sprints team was ready for action. The new captains: Jacob Adolphe, Sam Liu, and Akhil Madhugiri (listed from fastest to slowest), and the rest of the seniors began their last winter season with Thomas Jefferson. After a few meets were cancelled due to poor weather and some growing pains within the new 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays; the team enjoyed several breakout performances at the VA showcase meet in January. The first day of the meet ran several hours over, resulting in the team getting to the hotel around 2 AM. …show more content…
Fast forward to the first day of the conference championship in late January, Jacob Adolphe, with a fifth place finish, advanced to the regional championship in the 55m dash with a personal best time of 6.83 seconds. In addition, Minyoung Hwang and Ian Kang set personal best times as well (6.94 and 6.96 seconds respectively). Matthew Crotty also advanced to regionals in the 55 hurdles with a 6th place finish and a time of 8.76 seconds. The second day of conferences, on the much beloved TJ middle track/oil slick, the boys 4x200 relay finished third and advanced to regionals. Unfortunately, Akhil Madhugiri failed to advance to regionals in the 300m dash, bringing great shame upon the TJ team and the country of India. We caught up with Akhil post race and asked him why he performed so
when selecting the rowers should have taken into consideration both the psychological (personality types and traits) and the physical aspects (strength, speed, stamina, & coordination) and experimented the results of various combinations by mixing these aspects. He should have identified the growing internal conflicts and tried to look into the matter in the initial stages. Coach P from the beginning has focused on ascertaining his belief whether the Varsity team he chose is highly competent or not. Quantitatively, the members were highly competent in their individual abilities. Coach P. had several opportunities to counter this during the Atlanta Retreat. However, he failed to take actions on their failure as a team and waited to resolve it only in the end, just three days before the national games. The Army Varsity Crew is a dysfunctional group. They’ve not yet reached the Norming phase where trust among the members has largely been achieved. The coach should have made sure the structure and composition of the teams were properly made long before the seat races have started. The lack of presence of strong motivator in the Varsity team should have been met to give them a

1. During my membership with Junior League, I wish to acquire the skills needed to plan, organize and prioritize work for a variety of events and socials. I wish to enjoy my time networking and meeting other successful women within the Tampa community. By becoming a member of Junior League, I have an opportunity to develop myself further and build friendships through a supportive environment while making a positive impact on the community. I hope to inspire women to do what is right, guide them, and monitor their progress along the way. A future position in Junior League I could take on would be a provisional mentor to fulfill this hope of inspiring and guiding women. I would like to receive the skills and training to become a more effective community leader. I want to donate my time in the most effective way possible and I believe Junior League can offer me that. Through Junior League, I believe I can succeed in gaining these skills and experiences I wish to acquire.
I should be a member of the STEM Ravens cheer team. I would be a good edition to the team because I love my school, I exercise the LYP traits, and I have previous cheer experience. If I get on the team, I will show school spirit at games. Even if we don't have a game, school spirit is what keeps everyone going throughout the week. Without cheerleaders to boost spirit, the sports teams would not be doing as good as they are.
A common denominator that successful people share is the involvement of playing a varsity sport in high school. Every high school in the United States is different, however all encourage students to get involved. Most commonly, students decide to join sports. High school sports can cause profitable effects because students live healthier lives, achieve higher grades and learn life lessons.
...JV team’s advantage was its ability to perform as a cohesive group and synchronize rowing (Snook & Polzer, 2004). As a result of this and the short amount of time before the championship, the coach should allow the JV team to participate as the Varsity team. However, both teams relate well to other organizational teams and provide valuable examples for team leaders.
When I go to a gymnastics meet and do really good, so I get that 1st place medal or trophy. It feels amazing, I mean the sport gymnastics is competitive and I sure do love competitive sports. The competitiveness gets you that rush of excitement. You feel nervous, but excited to get in there and try your hardest. Kids make better choices and have committed when they have the drawbacks of participating in competitive youth sports.
This is Jad Mulgrew’s 5th year of working in the Sedalia School District. He has also been coaching mid-distance and long sprints in Track and Field for 5 years as well. Originally, Coach Mulgrew is from Palm Springs, California. Because he loved the sport, Coach Mulgrew wanted to coach Track from when he was at college. He believed it was a good way to share the love of his sport.
Some schools force students to participate in organized school sports. However, I believe that schools should not make this a requirement. Some students may have medical conditions, family situations that don't allow them to participate in organized school sports, or they simply may not have the time.
The start of the 2002 track season found me concerned with how I would perform. After a disastrous bout with mononucleosis ended my freshmen track season, the fear of failure weighed heavily on my mind. I set a goal for myself in order to maintain focus and to push myself like nothing else would. My goal for my sophomore track season was to become a state champion in the 100 meter hurdles. I worked hard everyday at practice and went the extra mile, like running every Sunday, to be just that much closer to reaching my goal. The thought of standing highest on the podium in the center of the field, surrounded by hundreds of spectators, overcame my thoughts of complaining every time we had a hard workout. When I closed my eyes, I pictured myself waiting in anticipation as other competitors names were called out, one by one, until finally, the booming voice announced over the loudspeaker, "...and in first place, your 2002 100 meter hurdle champion, from Hotchkiss, Connie Dawson." It was visions like these that drove me to work harder everyday.
As the Tiger rolled around, there arose a question of whether or not to keep the team together or break it up and give the two seniors a chance to compete in other individual events at regionals. I actually didn't know about this possibility until about five minutes before the race began on Saturday. We were all huddled together preparing for the start. Jeremy came up to Rodney and me and told us that if we didn't do well the team might be dropped. Kicking our motivational drive into high, the four of us focused on only one thing: running the time we all knew we could. Getting into the blocks I felt more ready than ever. At the sound of the gun, I shot out of the blocks. I sprinted around the track, concentrating on making a great hand-off.
"C'mon, Chris, you get in the shower first," Taylor ordered from the other bed. "You're already up." Chris conceded and worked his way to the shower. Everyone in the room knew it too, due to his grunting and whining under his breath. Soon enough he was out of the shower and so were Taylor, Anders, and I. We ate breakfast with the rest of the team downstairs in the hotel in silence. It was too early to talk or chat. Everyone knew that one thing was going to be on their minds: winning. It was not worth discussing, either. Everyone knew that our varsity eight was possibly the strongest that McCallie had ever had, and that we had a good chance of winning some gold medals that day, if not a great chance. We loaded on the bus like ants, noiselessly flowing into one little opening. The bus ride was silent all of the way over as well. Everyone's heads, looking intently forward, were slightly jostling along with the bumps in the road. Some tried to sleep, but the tension and excitement was too much for most of them to be successful.
Ordinarily I would have an off season in between the cross-country and Outdoor Track and Field, however, I decided that I would try out the indoor program this year. I’m glad that I made this decision, as it is a truly unique sports program. It is a tight knit group similar cross-country, yet it is also similar to Outdoor Track in that it’s also a diverse group of athletes. Both these qualities allowed for a truly unique experience that made it a worthwhile activity to participate that I truly enjoyed. It has also proved to be a learning experience in dealing with challenges, and it has provided a source of profound self
Are high school sports beneficial or not for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
Many times people forget that teamwork is a combination of the words TEAM and WORK. Which means it takes more than a combined group of people or a team, but it takes that and actions. Positivity, effective skills and effort from each group member. A good team member does their share of work in the group. equity and fairness are key in being a good team member also. A few other characteristics that help a group be successful are , positivity, complimenting other members, communication skills and fairness. By fairness I mean allowing everyone the chance to do something. This group project taught me the ability to be a team player. This is a skill needed to be successful in a group. I feel like it benefit me and my group members because normally
