Junior League 1. During my membership with Junior League, I wish to acquire the skills needed to plan, organize and prioritize work for a variety of events and socials. I wish to enjoy my time networking and meeting other successful women within the Tampa community. By becoming a member of Junior League, I have an opportunity to develop myself further and build friendships through a supportive environment while making a positive impact on the community. I hope to inspire women to do what is right, guide them, and monitor their progress along the way. A future position in Junior League I could take on would be a provisional mentor to fulfill this hope of inspiring and guiding women. I would like to receive the skills and training to become a more effective community leader. I want to donate my time in the most effective way possible and I believe Junior League can offer me that. Through Junior League, I believe I can succeed in gaining these skills and experiences I wish to acquire. 2. I work as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) nanny at Tampa General Hospital. As a NICU nanny, I feed, rock, and change babies who aren’t fortunate to have their …show more content…
parents at bedside at all times. In my collegiate years, I joined the woman’s fraternity of Delta Delta Delta. As a Tridelta, I valued giving back to our community through raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Our chapter would host one philanthropic event a semester to help raise money for St. Jude. As a member of this organization, I would help organize and manage these fundraisers. Another leadership role/volunteer experience I attained in college was volunteering to become a Pi Chi leader for USF Panhellenic. As a Pi Chi, I helped facilitate 30 potential new members find the sorority the best suited them. I planned activities, promoted positive attitudes, and gave my shoulder to lean on when decisions got tough. Now that I am out of college and obtained my first job, I am looking for more opportunities to give back to my community. I believe that Junior League will provide me with those opportunities to give back and help others. 3.
I value words as more than mechanisms of communication, but as depictions of one’s character. The words: determination, caring, compassion, goal oriented, and resilience accurately depict my character. I am very kind hearted and caring individual who will go out of my way to help people in need with no expectations of reciprocation. I keep at a problem until it’s solved and do what is necessary to complete all tasks. My knowledge and skill set as a Pediatric Registered Nurse can contribute to Junior League’s focus on children’s welfare and education. Unfortunately at my work, I come across too many incidents of children requiring foster care due to inadequate parenting. I see a huge need for organizations, like Junior League, to raise awareness and funding for these children to give them a life they
deserve.
...t with a child in the foster care system. This paper gave me the opportunity to learn the positives and the negatives as well as more details about the little parts of the foster care system that I didn’t know existed. Even though my focus is to help the child and think about their best interest, this paper showed me that the parents, both biological and foster, are another important factor that helps the children. It made me realize that I will need to meet the parents and work with them to make a plan that fits their life. I will need to figure out what issues they feel are important to fix and how to get to those solutions. Foster care is a complex system that will challenge me daily if I enter the into this specific field but even if I work with children in a different environment I need to be aware that children come from all different types of backgrounds.
I am involved in several clubs, such as Spanish club and HOSA, although I do not hold office in any of them, I try to serve as a leader and to use my intelligence to help the school. I can work well either individually or on a team and can Inspire positive attitudes and behaviors in others. I promise to utilize my leadership skills and work with other NHS members to achieve success for the school. With my characteristics, I will inspire new concepts and further develop the character of NHS. I plan to volunteer in events as much as possible, and can fill in for other people who can’t be in attendance. Whether I’m volunteering or helping a fellow student, I vow to act with honesty, integrity, diligence, and the best of my ability. With my skills and abilities, I Would be proud to step up and represent NHS with confidence. I am a great strategist and am able to
A NICU nurse is there primarily to give care to the infants, but due to the poor health of the babies, it can create anxiety, stress, depression, and fatigue for the families. I want to help fight for those babies, but I also want to provide support and love for families that are walking in a complete nightmare, one they never dreamed they would be living.
Most neonatal nurses work in hospitals others may have positions in home care or follow ups of infants. When you work in the hospital, it can be very hectic but if it’s really what you want to do, you will do it.
Sport specialization, means to practice and train for only one sport. Some people feel it is better to specialize rather than play multiple sports. There are good and bad that come from being a single sport athlete, but there are good and bad for being a multiple sport athlete.
Through the traumatic experience of my father’s illness, a positive and optimistic perspective of commitment to nursing career evolved. My journey of becoming a nurse and commitment of shining a bright light on another individual life has been my life long goal. I moved to the United States in early 1980 and with God help and guidance, I followed the nursing career and promised to make a small difference. During my first years as a nursing student, I took a part-time volunteered position as a candy-stripe and a part-time position as a nurse aid in a community hospital to provide relief and support to hospital staffs. I rocked and read poems for babies in the nursery, as a nurse aid I assist nurses with vital signs, blood pressures, fill ice pitchers in patient rooms, runs specimens to labs and sit with patients in the room and feed patients. I still volunteer in my hospital oncology department and the underserved and homeless clinics with several Emory physicians at the Good Samaritan Health Center, Mercy Care and National AIDS Education and Services for Minorities (NAESM) all in Fulton County, Ga, because it gave me fulfillment and appreciative of life
The first ideas of organized play originated in the 1890s and lasts still today. Organized team sport was looked as a way for Americans to improve their cities. Americans believed that organized team sports was a way that could help govern themselves more successfully like a democracy. Not only did Americans believe that they could improve their cities with organized sports but, they also believed that they could improve education in the schools by adding physical education and team competition. Organized team sport was viewed as a way to add further educational value in the school system that children could not get in any other subjects in school. The spread of physical education in the schools was originated by Luther Halsey Gulick. Gulick
Our book defines a group as a collection of people who are perceived to bond together in a coherent unit to some degree (Baron 241). Making a decision isn’t always easy depending on how many people are in the group and if there is any conflict within the group. The basic aspects of a group include roles, status, norms and cohesiveness but when viewing my soccer team I see only certain obvious aspects being present. When thinking about the process in which we, as a group have to make the decision of where to stop for food after an away game, it is obvious that many theories and/or topics can be applied. These theories or topics include evaluation apprehension, social decision schemas, authentic dissent and conflict. The four subjects listed above help explain how a group can come to a decision together.
Words never fade. Whether they help or hurt an individual, words influence his or her thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors long after he or she hears them. Even though Mother Teresa has passed away, her work and quotes influence me as an aspiring social worker. She once said, “I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples” (as cited in Bradberry, 2015). Mother Teresa worked in the slums of Calcutta, India with the poor and the outcasts. Even though her outreach was limited, she influenced the entire world by creating ripples. I desire to be a social worker that continually welcomes those who need empowering while simultaneously creating ripples to the broader society.
As a native of Lancaster, I feel an obligation to act and do something that will benefit my community. I am well aware of the many perils that youth face, and these obstacles can be extremely difficult to overcome without positive figures to aid and provide guidance. There is a great need for an intensive mentoring program within the community to positively influence the lives of youth. For The Land of Dreams, I have proposed to host a community basketball tournament to raise funds to implement a mentoring program to assist in the personal growth and career development of youth in Lancaster County and surrounding areas. The program will form partnerships with local school districts and the juvenile court system. This event will aid Lancaster County by providing additional discretionary resources that will be used to fund such activities as tutoring programs, leadership courses, and college tours.
The crowd started cheering as number 3 dribbled down the field. Every single fan stood up on their tippy toes with their teeth clenched. As she’s making her way to the shooting circle, the crowd is so silent, wondering what was about to happen. She’s on her own now, it’s a break away. Time for her and the goalie to face head to head. She shoots, and…. The goalie blocks it.
Are high school sports beneficial or not for students? I personally believe if a student is in a high school sport they’re forced to prioritize between school and their sport, and at a young age I believe the student would decide to use his time to improve in his sport instead of school. Which in the long run would affect his academics, unless they decide to stay up late and work on their homework to keep up with both school and their sport. But, even like that in time the lack of sleep would catch up to them, and cause them to do even worse in both academics, and sports. High school sports are like the lotto in my opinion, many play but only a few get rewarded for their work. Therefore, high school sports cause more negativity than positivity.
What do you think of when you watch Michael Jordan play basketball? What do you think of when you watch Cristiano Ronaldo or Pele play soccer? Are they remembered as great individual players or as great team players? In sports today, fans often forget the term team player. A lot of the time, the star player will forget what it means to be a team player, but what does it actually mean? Many believe that the definition of a team player is the person that does all of the hard work for the great players on the team. I feel that the real definition of a team player is one who is determined to make the team succeed, from practicing, learning the game, and from having great individual performance.
Many life lessons can be taught through sports. Children can learn the importance of work ethic, working with others, perseverance, and the list goes on. There are studies that have shown that kids who are involved in athletics are more successful in the business world. It is only when parents turn the sporting events into an ultra-competitive requirement for their child that it can become detrimental. The lessons that sports teach kids about real life is one of the greatest benefits that can be gained from sports. Because so much can be learned through sports we need to make sure that we put focus on teaching lessons through sports rather than making it all about winning. It is a sad when parents turn a great beneficial thing into something that can be harmful for their children.
Nursing is a stepping-stone for me towards achieving my goal, as it will help me gain the ideas and skills to serve the community. In order to learn about the field and start helping people I have volunteered at Children’s Hospital of Oakland for two years. At Children’s hospital, I offered assistance to parents by holding babies and helped the nurses by running errands and comforting babies during their tough times. I have also been volunteering in the emergency department at Doctors Medical Center for more than a year where I have been assisting emergency personnel as well as the patients during their urgent time. I have also volunteered as a student nurse to give vaccinations to low-income population in San Francisco. These experiences have not only helped me understand the complexities of working with a highly diverse and multi-cultural population, but I have also experienced the joy that comes in our lives from offering a helping hand to those in need.
