There is a famous saying that “health is wealth.” I believe that health is of utmost importance when it comes to living a quality life. I have always been stricken by the role that health plays in our lives, thus I have a passion for being a healthcare professional. In order to bring significant changes in the health status of people and promote positive health in the society, I have chosen nursing as a career where I can spread good health through love, care, and support. Recently, I have joined the nursing program at San Francisco State University, and the fact that I am doing nursing makes me feel terrific because it involves taking care, and maintaining health and wellbeing. Nursing is a stepping-stone for me towards achieving my goal, as it will help me gain the ideas and skills to serve the community. In order to learn about the field and start helping people I have volunteered at Children’s Hospital of Oakland for two years. At Children’s hospital, I offered assistance to parents by holding babies and helped the nurses by running errands and comforting babies during their tough times. I have also been volunteering in the emergency department at Doctors Medical Center for more than a year where I have been assisting emergency personnel as well as the patients during their urgent time. I have also volunteered as a student nurse to give vaccinations to low-income population in San Francisco. These experiences have not only helped me understand the complexities of working with a highly diverse and multi-cultural population, but I have also experienced the joy that comes in our lives from offering a helping hand to those in need. In order to help other people by being a healthcare professional, I was dedicated and motivated... ... middle of paper ... ...e of the fact that he did not get to receive the higher education, he motivated me to go to college and become a better person. As of now, I want to work harder toward being a better student in nursing that will help me graduate as a qualified and a knowledgeable candidate. After graduation, I want to serve the community by promoting and maintaining health in the society. In order to build the financial independence as well as to implement my knowledge and ideas into practice, I would like to work. Along with that, I would also like to continue my education so that I gain better expertise in providing the best level of care.

A nurse’s role in our society today is exceptionally significant. Nurses are somewhat idolized and looked to as our everyday “superman”. “The mission of nursing in society is to help individuals, families, and groups to determine and achieve physical, mental, and social potential, and to do so within the challenging context of the environment in which they live and work” (“The Role of a Nurse/Midwife”). Many Americans turn to nurses for delivery of primary health care services and health care education (Whelan). In our country, there is constantly someone in need of health care. There will always be a baby being born or a person dying, someone becoming ill or growing old. Some people due to their physical and/or mental state of health are completely dependent on a nurse and wouldn’t be able to get through the simple obstacles of every day, or achieve the necessary requirements of a simple day without their aid. Not only do nurses help, and assist you when you’re sick, but also act to promote good health to others. They end...

Nursing is defined as “as an application of scientific knowledge enhanced by artful practice in a socially responsible manner.” (Gregory 5). This experience is the very foundation in which my aspirations are rooted, fostering changes both professionally and academically. My objectives include caring for others in a setting that reaches out to communities, with a focus on the Hispanic community. Becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I will be able to holistically care for children, adults, and seniors; an important aspect of Hispanic culture. “To do what nobody else will do, a way that nobody else can do, in spite of all we go through; is to be a nurse,” said Rawsi Williams, a registered RN. This quote completely captures the duties and responsibilities it takes to be in a healthcare profession. Why does one choose a career in nursing? There are usually several reason one may choose to become a nurse; however, nursing is one of those professions that often chooses the person rather than the other way around. Nursing is a calling, a mission, and a life’s work. It is a culmination of compassion, service, knowledge, teamwork, integrity, and perseverance. While it is true that one may receive the title “Registered Nurse” by going to school and passing an exam, this author believes nursing is something that lives inside a person; it is an inherent desire to heal, protect, advocate, and serve.
It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...
Nursing is a promising career that offers many rewards to caring individuals. It is more than just a job that one attends day to day. Nursing is a career that kind people get in to because they are passionate about life and everything is has to offer. They care for people they have never met before in such a way that makes the patient feel comfortable and able to relax. In a way that makes it possible for the patient to recover from whatever they have encountered. If I am going to spend valuable time and money on education, I want to a job that I absolutely love. I want to have the satisfaction of knowing that my job is safe even when times are rough. Interviewing Jennifer H, a Registered Nurse at a local Banner facility really helped me get insight on what the position has to offer. I have encountered many people who are not passionate about their job and just show up for a paycheck; choosing a job in the medical field provides people with the same check, but also offers job security, advancement opportunities and numerous benefits for the employee and their famil...
Seeing my mother go through the healthcare system and make a successful recovery motivated me to pursue a career in the healthcare field. As a result, during my time as an undergraduate student at UCI, I sought opportunities to immerse myself in the healthcare environment, and I became a volunteer diabetes case manager at the Irvine Outreach Clinic in Santa Ana. As a diabetes case manager, I assisted underserved Spanish-speaking patients with their diabetic care by educating them on topics of nutrition and glucometer use. This experience fomented my interest in nursing because I was able to see my patients improve over time and see the difference health education made in their quality of life. I also found my purpose in being an advocate and a guide to those who found themselves lost in the medical field due to a language
My choice of nursing as a career was inspired by past experiences that made me appreciate the field and its virtues. My mother was an obstetrician-gynecologist in China. I grew up having spent lots of time in her hospital. The medical field really appealed to me. Nevertheless, my mom thought that being a teacher was a better career choice for me. As a result, I worked as a high school teacher till my husband and I came to the U.S. to pursue our post-graduate education. I started my retail business in Madison, Wisconsin after I earned my master’s degree in Organization Development. My life appeared to have nothing to do with my childhood medical dream. However, things changed when both of my sons were diagnosed with Autism. The successful experience
