Introduction
The Book of John is believed to be a testimony by the disciples of Jesus to the various signs performed by Jesus Christ (Beasley-Murray & John, 1999). The purpose of the Gospel is to guide the believers in recognizing the glory of Jesus and thus believe that he is the Messiah (Brown, 1966-70). The case study under consideration is one which involves a long one-on-one conversation between Jesus and a Samaritan Woman. The said case study gives clear reasons to the readers of John on why believing in Jesus Christ is the only source of salvation, hence enjoying eternal life.
The paper, therefore, analyzes the passage in the Gospel (John 4: 1-30), where Jesus talks to the Samaritan Woman. Discussed in the various sections of this study is the historical context of the passage, literary context and the meaning of the said passage regarding issues it addresses. Lastly, conclusions are drawn concerning the meaning of the passage for today's world.

Therefore, the passage is found in the section of the “Book of Signs” in the Book of John (Edersheim, 1993). The reasons for making the above conclusion is that the talk of Jesus with the Samaritan woman consists of one of the many signs performed by Jesus manifesting his power. This is when Jesus tells the woman about herself and then proclaimed to be the Messiah and that He is the Living Water, which means that he is the Savior of the World.
The passage does not represent any particular type of literature. It however, consist a parable, history of the Samaritan woman and a few cases of prophecy as well as apocalyptic writing. There are also some cases where aphorism is seen to have been used. The case of aphorism, for example, is evident where it is stated that Jesus is the Living Water, and that quenches all
