I believe that I am for BOLD actions because nothing in live has ever been accomplished without being BOLD in a way. Boldness is worth the risk and people should pursue it because if the want to accomplish something you need to be BOLD. It is important for us to take bold action because it is a part of daily life. For example in the story “Finding Your Everest” by Robert Medina, it said that ‘When he told his father what he wanted to do, Paul Romero's jaw dropped. Paul Romero is an experienced mountaineer, so he knew what was involved. He also knew his son.”. This means that Jordan is taking a bold action even though he is just a 9 year old at time and he even says to his parents about that. This matters Jordan is already making decisions at …show more content…
such a young age and even though there parents were surprised they should have know since they are mountaineers. We should take bold actions because they are part of our lives like when you finally started to walk even though you were scared because you could have fallen on your head. Everyone should take the risk of taking a bold action because if you want to be great in life you have to have the courage to do it.
For example in the story “Rogue Wave” by Theodore Taylor is stated that”Four times Scoot needed to dive, once for each dog; and working underwater was at least five times as difficult as trying to turn them in usual circumstances. She’d aim the light and rest it to illuminate the windows. Finally, all the dogs were loose and she rose once again. This time, after filling her lungs to bursting, she went down and pushed on the starboard window. It cracked a little, but the outside sea pressure resisted and she had to surface again. Sully sat down, almost giving up hope. How long the air pocket would hold up was anybody’s guess. The boat had settled at least six inches in the last two hours. It might not last into the night. On her sixth dive Scoot found a way to brace her feet against the ceiling ribs. She pushed with all her strength, and this time the window opened. Almost out of breath, she quickly pushed her body through and the Old Sea Dog released her.”. This means that Scott took a bold action so she would escape the “OLD SEA DOG” even though she could have died from drowning. This matters because she accomplished surviving underwater with only a air pocket to keep her alive reunited with scully which was trying to help scoot escape but failed miserably because he didn’t have the courage to break one of the window to help her escape. It is
mportannt to take bold actions because it is part of life, ironicly scoot took a bold action to save her life. The main point of my body paragraphs were that you have to take bold actions because everyone does it every day like having the courage to speak their speech, even if it's horrible or funny. My position is important because i'm trying to convince people against bold actions so they will that bold actions are an important part of life. Thank you for reading my essay.
Making sure it is a good example is the most important part of being a good leader in your community. The Benchwarmers started with the intention of helping a little boy gain confidence, and that blossomed into a whole community standing by their side to fight against bullies. All the children in the end were taught by great leaders, came together, and accepted each other. Leading by example does not just happen in fictional stories though. It happens every day and in reality, anyone can be that leader. The most important part of being that leader is making sure your example is a good one. Whether reality or fiction, anyone can be a leader with a good example which inspires people, schools, and communities to join
We live our entire lives caring about other people 's opinions of ourselves where they seem to become our own but they don’t have to. While most of us as we grow up will realize how foolish this was and be themselves anyway; It takes too long, as children we are not shown to be ourselves but shown to follow the crowd, the safe route. The younger generations need to see that risks can change your life for the better and let each of us live a happier more fulfilled
If a leader is not brave then they will be a weak leader. Manfred von Richthofen also knows as the Red Baron was a WW1 German fighter pilot. Richthofen once said, “I have had an experience which might perhaps be described as being shot down. At the same time, I call shot down only when one falls down. Today I got into trouble but I
The seagulls in this story are used to symbolize human frailty and nature’s indifference to it. As the men continue their journey through the fierce waves, Crane incorporates the use of imagery to describe the nature around them by giving it gloomy colors that are often used to represent death. Toward the end of the story, as the men are still hoping to be rescued, they encounter a shark swimming around the boat that symbolizes that something bad is about to happen. At the end of the story, readers learn that the Oiler, Billie, dies, but if one pays close enough attention to the detail used in this story there is enough evidence to foreshadow the death of one character. In this story, “The Open Boat,” Stephen Crane uses imagery and symbolism through the use of colors and objects in nature to depict the characters lack of power over
In this case, knowing the ocean can be unpredictable these mean still chose to go through with their journey. Even though the probability of dying is low, taking a risk that could mean losing a life is not worth it. Therefore, people need to be knowledgeable about the activities that they are going partake in. For example, In “To build a Fire,” a man went on an expedition to map out a pathway and he went all alone, along with his dog. This man did not learn enough about his expedition until he got himself involved in the life or death situation. “That man from Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country. And he had laughed at the time!” Consequently, the man had died on this journey, for making decisions that were risky. Another example of getting involved in a life-or-death situation is volunteering to go to war. Although these people want to protect their country, they need to know that there is a risk involved in going to war. For example, In the story “Moral Logic of Survival guilt,” it talks about soldiers who choose to go to war, and either come out dead or
In my opinion, making decisions can be categorized into three levels. The first level is making decisions about daily life from choosing what to wear to making a plan for the weekend; making wrong decisions in such level does not have big effects. Making decisions about personal affairs is the second level, such as choosing a partner or a job; people cannot see clearly at this level, and making wrong decisions at the second level can have long-term consequences on their lives. The third level, which is the most difficult, is making critical decisions that determine the destiny of whole nations; at this level, leaders are put between two detrimental decisions and have to choose the least harmful one. Thomas Jefferson
No one wants to follow a leader who is not visionary; hence, great turmoil arises between leader and follower when the leader lacks both vision and strategy (Yukl, 2010). In many instances, leaders who lack vision suffer the effects of several interrelated problems that include: poor communication, the inability to be forward-looking, and the unwillingness to share the vision with others because of fear (Shead, 2016). Fear, at times can be a legitimate concern in leadership, principally when the leader’s credibility is at stake over a failed project; however, fear is an impediment to mutual accountability, honesty, and trust between leader and follower (CCBS, 2016), because of fear, leaders often fail to pursue what could be and thereby damage leadership effectiveness and the potential of an organization (Shead,
‘A leader steps up in times of crisis, and is able to think and act creatively in difficult situations’ (Business Dictionary.com). Unlike management, leadership cannot be...
In the story "The Open Boat," by Stephen Crane, Crane uses many literary techniques to convey the stories overall theme. The story is centered on four men: a cook, a correspondent, Billie, an oiler who is the only character named in the story, and a captain. They are stranded in a lifeboat in stormy seas just off the coast of Florida, just after their ship has sunk. Although they can eventually see the shore, the waves are so big that it is too dangerous to try to take the boat in to land. Instead, the men are forced to take the boat further out to sea, where the waves are not quite as big and dangerous. They spend the night in the lifeboat and take turns rowing and then resting. In the morning, the men are weak and exhausted. The captain decides that they must try to take the lifeboat as close to shore as possible and then be ready to swim when the surf inevitably turns the boat over and throws the men into the cold sea. As they get closer to land a big wave comes and all the men are thrown into the sea. The lifeboat turns over and the four men must swim into shore. There are rescuers waiting on shore who help the men out of the water. Strangely, as the cook, captain and correspondent reach the shore safely and are helped out of the water, they discover that, somehow, the oiler has drowned after being smashed in the surf by a huge wave. (255-270) “The Open Boat’s” main theme deals with a character’s seemingly insignificant life struggle against nature’s indifference. Crane expresses this theme through a suspenseful tone, creative point of view, and a mix of irony.
My strength as activator explains why it is important that I seek a career where I can be a leader. The statement “Once a decision is made, you cannot not act” (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006, p. 28) describes me perfectly. This strength helped me to understand why am I so impatient for things to happen. I feel this is a strong, valuable trait in ...
There are many leadership lessons that William Wallace exposed in this short extract of “Braveheart”. These examples of leadership are very important in being a successful leader in the modern day business world as well. By standing strong in adversity, Wallace got the attention of his army and inspired them into battle.
Enable Others to Act – leaders actively engage individuals and make an effort to generate an ambience of trust and self-esteem.
The most effective way to achieve something in our world also happens to be the most difficult to do. The two most effective methods of achieving something is taking or winning. Taking a stand is the most courageous act a person can do because often times they are going against the common belief of the people around them. All great leaders have one thing in common and that is that they are brave enough to take a stand. Taking a stand is more important and has a bigger effect on the world than winning does.
The case study and readings in this class have painted a clear picture of the various ways one can be a leader, the catalyst that has inspired the least likely to lead to action and the many different capacities in which one is a leader. From the parent whose child is the victim of abuse to the CEO of a major corporation, leadership can spring forth and blaze trails never imagined by others. I learned that on my journey to executive leadership, I can begin leading in my current capacity as an analyst. I do not need to wait to be given the “thumbs up” to lead, as I can be a leader in many ways everyday. Leadership is not about magnificent speaking or major endeavors, “it is about coping with change” (Kotter, p.31, 2003). We all are subject to situation dealing with change daily, it is all about how we cope with it and how others interpret and accept our coping skills.
