Blood doping is an action that speeds up the process, yet is looked down on in the athletic scenery. This action is when athletes feel the need to remove large amounts of blood from their body before any major competitions in order to perform better. Days before competition, as the body is trying to recover from the loss of blood, the athlete reinjects their blood to give their body a boost of red blood cells. With more blood cells in the body the more it creates oxygen, giving it a sense of adrenalin. Blood doping is a highly dangerous process that can result in many health problems such as heart attacks. The cardiovascular system is crucial for body. It gives the body the ability to stabilize homeostatic control over internal conditions.
“Honestly, I didn’t have an accurate definition of feminism when I was younger. I didn’t quite see all the ways that feminism is vital to growing up in the world we live in. I think that when I used to say, ‘Oh, feminism’s not really on my radar,’ it was
Racism, a plague in our society that has infected our society, and still does today, has been rooted by the premise of Darwinian evolution. Racism existed long before Charles Darwin made his mark in history; however, in the book One Race One Blood, the authors explain how there is a very close relationship between the theory of evolution and what we know today as racism. The authors intent of this book is to realize the effects of a specific ideas that has shaped racism. Mr. Ken Ham describes ideas as being seeds, “…they might seem small; they might seem insignificant; they might even go unnoticed by all expect those who hold them in the moment…” (7). Charles Darwin’s idea (or seeds) of his evolutionary has taken root and made its way into public schools, the government, and even our churches. Although, racism did not originate with Darwin, Ken Ham claims that, “he did more than any other person to popularize it” (22). His evolutionary ideas have fueled racism and this is what racists use to justify their hatred toward those who are different from them (8).
In his book, The Blood Telegram: Nixon, Kissinger, and a Forgotten Genocide, Gary J. Bass depicts the horror and political nature of the massacre of East Pakistani citizens in which Nixon and Kissinger did nothing to try to prevent the deaths of thousands, instead, they keep good relations with the dictator and continued to supply Pakistan with American weaponry. Bass supports his explanations by illustrating the events using copious amounts of quotes. The author’s purpose is to clarify this confusing period and show Nixon’s role in it. The author writes in an objective tone.
Wallace Terry has collected a wide range of stories told by twenty black Vietnam veterans. The stories are varied based on each experience; from the horrific to the heart breaking and to the glorified image of Vietnam depicted by Hollywood. Wallace Terry does not insinuate his opinion into any of the stories so that the audience can feel as if they are having a conversation with the Vietnam Veteran himself. Terry introduces the purpose of the book by stating, “ Among the 20 men who portray their war and postwar experiences in this book. I sought a representative cross section of the black combat force.”(p. XV) Although the stories in this book were not told in any specific order, many themes became prominent throughout the novel such as religion, social, and health.
Doping is the use of illegal substances that is harmful to athlete's health and is capable of enhancing performance. Doping also refers to the presence of drugs in the athlete's blood or urine. So, doping in other words is cheating and can be detrimental to the individual reputation and the sport. There are two types of doping blood and chemical. Blood doping is when drugs are placed into red blood cells, oxygen carriers, and related blood products to enhance an athlete's performance (1 Anonymous). Effects of blood doping include kidney damage, allergic reactions, and blood clots (1Anonymous). Chemical doping refers to attempts to change samples used in drug testing (1Anonymous). Despite the many risks the use of drugs among athletes is still prevalent.
...ther competitions, by wrong and unjust means. And consequently, the sports commissioner s of all the sports have to ensure that the players in a particular sport are not using steroids or any other similar drugs, and for that they often have to direct the medical staff in a particular sport to check the athletes, that whether they are using steroids or any other similar drugs. And in case, if steroids are located in their bodies, then the sports commissioners have to conduct thorough investigation, which eventually, results in unique unprecedented punishments for such athletes. Therefore, it s extremity imperative for these Professional athletes to realize the fact that they are the current role models for the future athletes, and can quite significantly influence the young athletes, all over the world, through any sort of misconduct on their part (Haupt & Rovere,
Have you ever watched the Olympics and wondered how the athletes can be that strong and fast? The International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.) certainly has. Each year the athletes come up with new ways to enhance their performance, and make it harder for the Olympic drug testers to detect banned substances. With performance enhancing drugs becoming harder to police, the burden of trying to keep the Olympics as clean as possible falls on the I.O.C.'s shoulders.
By allowing the use of these forms of enhancement to sports it levels the playing field. In terms of sports, the perception that everyone has the same chance at winning is totally ridiculous. However, in the example of baseball, if the number one pitcher is using enhancements and so is the best batter then the odds are more even then if only one of the stars were using. In the terms of genetics, some people are born with certain genes that create an advantage over others without that gene. Consider the Finish Olympic champion skier Eero Mantyranta, he was born with a gene mutation that allowed his body to produce more red blood cells than normal. The ability to perform well in competition is connected with the ability of the body to deliver oxygen to muscles. As we know, oxygen is carried by red bloods cells. Therefore, the more red blood cells the body has, the more oxygen is delivered to muscles. This in turn, improves an athlete’s performance. Now if other skiers were allowed to improve their red blood cell count by doping that can increase their performance and even out the competition. This does not mean that Mantyranta would not still win, but it helps even the playing
In today’s age, performance enhancing drugs have become more advanced than just some special herbs and spices. Scientists today have found ways to manipulate elements to help provide muscle mass and stamina. Some types of performance enhancing drugs are human growth hormones (HGH), testosterone boosters, anabolic steroids etc. When taking HGH, a person might experience results such as an increase in muscle mass, an increase in bone density, and a reduced fat content in the body (Freudenrich). The same results could be found when you take anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids have been sought after to athletes and bodybuilders because they increase the size and strength of muscles. They also increase aggressiveness and competitiveness, which can be desirable traits in sports (Helmenstine). On different occasions such as a cyclist or a long distance runner, these athletes will store some of their red blood cells when their hemoglobin is high. The athlete will then train and work as usual, but right before the athlete competes they will transfuse the blood they took out back into their body therefore creating more red blood cells to ...
Doping is a serious issue in the sport world, it is morally unacceptable, unhealthy for the athletes, and it ruins competitions. Indeed, blood doping can have horrible consequences on the athletes, such as blood clotting, increased heart stress, which can lead to death,
Although sudden cardiac deaths are believed to be uncommon, the frequency with which such deaths occur remains largely unknown. (Maron; Pelliccia; Aeppli p.1881) A cardiac arrest is when a person’s heart stops pumping. When a person’s heart stops pumping blood doesn’t flow around their body and oxygen doesn’t reach their brian like it normally should. If an athlete suffers a cardiac arrest and their heart stops pumping for a period of time, then they are most likely not to recover. The frequency of sudden cardiac death in high school athletes is reported as 1:180,000-1:200,000, with 90% of these deaths occurring during training or competition. (Subasic p.18)
Cycling is a exercise that requires a lot of oxygen for the physiological balance between the energy used, therefore it is able to strength the heart, prevent high blood pressure. This exercise is known to be more effective then medication, because during the process of cycling it compress the blood vessels, speeding up the bloodstream, increasing the amount of oxygen in the brain, The inhaling of fresh air is able to make our brains more clear in making decision and feel a since of freedom in
Anemia is a condition in which the body has a low number of red blood cells in the body. Anemia is also known as blood disease that occurs when the blood of the person does not have enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin iron-rich protein that gives blood its red color. It also helps the human body to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body. There are different causes of anemia, but there are preventions and treatment as well.
Doping can be strictly defined as the consumption of any substance (whether food or drug) to improve one's performance. This definition can be applied in a variety of situations, from college students drinking coffee in order to stay awake to athletes who take steroids to make them stronger. The problem with doping is where one draws the line. The drugs used in doping often have detrimental effects to one's health, both mental and physical. In the short run these drugs improve one's performance, but in the long run they can kill.
Athletes are willing to give up all that they have worked for their entire lives in order to win a gold medal. Athletes use performance-enhancing drugs to help break records or win gold medals. Blood doping is another example in which athletes attempt to improve performance. Drug related scandals are some of the major concerns with the Olympics. Drug testing was introduced at the Olympics in 1967, when at the 1960 Olympics in Rome, Swedish cyclist Knut Jensen took compound drugs to compete in the road race during which he collapsed and died.
