Section 1: Identification and Evaluation of Sources
The investigation will explore the question: What was the impact of Black minstrel shows on Black reality television? The years that will be the focus of this investigation is 2000- 2017, to understand the mockery, mind control, and repetition of history that is being took place in this current period.
The first source that will be evaluated is Kia Speaks article “Reality Television: The Modern-Day Minstrel Show”, written in 2012. The origin of where the author has gotten her information is unknown; however, she has had this blog since 2011, when the era of most successful reality television shows came to focus, so that tells the let the reader know the author has been up to date with pop …show more content…

This is valuable because it indicates that both programs are derogatory stereotypes of Black people, mostly the Black woman. Although, the author having notice the comparison within the short period given limits to those who notice the comparison today.
The second source that will be evaluated is Justin Simien article “Dear White People: Reality TV Is the New Blackface”, written in 2014. The origin of where the author has gotten his information from is unsure, however the author released this article after the release of the motion picture “Dear White People”, which he was the wrote and produce. The author is also African American; however, he is a male and a producer, so, which would make his information more liable due to him actually working in the field that constructs most of the reality series.
The purpose of this article was to visualize the foreshadowing of minstrel shows into todays “most favored” television genres, reality television. This is valuable because it indicates that racism or stereotypes are still visible to this day, and as stated before Black women fall victim towards these stereotypes. Young women view that simply acting in that manner will get them fame and fortune, instead of seeking responsibility and humility to gain long term lasting effects of a career. Even though, these women of reality television have other careers, they still have this promised role that they play on television, which a lot of young girl won’t ever have, instead of aiming to become a doctor or lawyer, most young women will go out of their ways to imitate something that is scripted rather than something that is
