Habitat:
The Black Bear is native to North America; it ranges all over North America even in Canada and in Eight Northern states of Mexico. Black Bear only is found in 41 of the 50 US States. Black Bears need thick wooded areas because they are shy and they like to be by themselves. They can live in other places such as mountains, swamp, abandoned fields (State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 2014). When Black Bears live in close proximity to a city the Black Bear(s) will weigh more because of the availability of high calorie foods. (Florida State University, 2014)
Male Black Bears travel over many miles, sometimes living in an area as large as 60 square miles. Females do not roam as much and live in areas around 15 square miles. Male Bears do not live in the same areas as other males, but many females may live in the same areas. Females are more likely to defend their territory than a male is when an intruder is to enter. These animals determine their territory “by urinating, defecating, and by scratching, rubbing, and biting trees.” (State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, 2014) Most people think that bears live in caves, but bears lives in different places and make their dens out of different things. The dens may be in “open nest, brush piles, fallen trees, rock piles, excavations, hollow trees, and human structures.” (Ternant, 2006)
Understanding Black Bear Ecology
Reproduction and survival:
Bears begin to reach sexual maturity at different times. “Females generally become sexually mature between two to five years of age. Males become sexually mature at four to six years of age. “ (Callas, 2002) Mating seasons are between June and July, with th...

...Bears are not on it. At one time the population of Black Bears dropped but it has bounced back over the last few decades. The main reason bears become endangered is because their habitat is frequently destroyed. Over-hunting and out of season hunting also causes decreases in other bear populations. Other reasons include “global warming, pollution, development of the areas for oil development and human conflicts.” (Ocean Foundation, 2007-2014)
Conclusion
Black bears are very interesting creatures. They have a long history in Pennsylvania. While they have always been here, their population has dropped but has increased so that bears are common in the state once again. Many people can say they have seen a bear, where years ago they were rare to be seen. Bears are a necessary part of our environment and without them our state would not be nearly as interesting.
Grizzly bears live in a variety of environments .All of which includes dense forests, subalpine meadows, open plains and arctic tundra . In the past though, they could be found from Alaska to Mexico, and from California to Ohio. Though Nowadays there are efforts trying to make it so grizzly bears can make a comeback and the wild, and all of their efforts are proving to be working, there are 4 times as many grizzlies in the wild as there were in 1975, at
For years, we have heard of the devastating effects of global warming and how the melting of the polar ice caps will cause severe climate changes. One animal that has suffered most from global warming is the polar bear. Global warming has caused the polar bear population to decrease due to the results of having to swim longer distances, loss of habitat, and lack of mates to reproduce offspring. Global warming has caused this species to become endangered and has some attention with social media. Global warming has caused much damage to the polar bear population due to the warming of their habitat.
Now even though these bears help the environment so will other bears. The Grizzlies are just another species of the many species of bears why are these bears more important than other bears. As we find from the GNWT: “Grizzly Bears in the NWT occur primarily in open alpine or tundra habitats, but they can also be found in forested areas. They have large home ranges relative to most other bear species. On average, a male’s range can exte...
National Parks are the cornerstone of every country because it preserves the rich cultural and natural resources of a nation, such as Yellowstone in the United States of America. Yellowstone National Park is the World’s First National Park which brings millions of attraction each year, it is larger than Rhode Island and Delaware combine and have over a thousand species of plants and animal (Yellowstone Media). However, a very important type of species has been missing in Yellowstone National Park for a very long time. Wolves, which got reintroduce back into Yellowstone National Park, should stay there because without them the ecosystem would be out of balance.
Although they are now rare, grizzly bears inhabit the dense forest of Montana’s Rocky Mountains. Grizzlies grow as tall as eight feet and can weigh up than 1,000 pounds, yet they can move as fast as a horse. There are six national grizzly recovery zones, and three are in Montana. They are Cabinet-Yaak, Northern Continental Divided, and Yellowstone (Av2 books).
Many hunters argue that the protectiveness towards grizzly bears is oriented more towards emotion than environmental sustainability. Researchers at the BC Raincoast Conservation Foundation have been devoted to fighting the hunt for over a decade now. Although they do signify that emotion is a part of their reason for banning hunting bears, they like to focus on the ecological and ethical aspects of the hunt. There is a big controversy over the fact that if there is a sustainable number of bears in the environment and people are allowed to kill them, then why is the surplus of humans allowed to grow?
The habitat of the Arctic wolf is a very harsh place. The temperature must be below zero degrees. There are tundra, rolling hills, glacier valleys, ice fields, shallow lakes, and green flatlands (Arctic/Antarctic: The Arctic Wolf). These snowy white creators don’t have that many places to live. Arctic wolves used to be everywhere in North America, but sadly now they are reduced to Canada, Alaska, Idaho, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Wisconsin, and Wyoming (Arctic/Antarctic: The Arctic Wolf). Arctic wolves are one of the most dangerous types of wolves; people need to find a way to save them and their habitat before they disappear forever.
The Kermode bear lives in a variety of places like Princess Royal Island and Gribbell Island. The Kermode bears are mostly found in Great Bear Rainforest of British
Spirit bears live on the Queen Charlotte islands in Canada, and of the cost of British Columbia, Canada. Also they live on the Princess Royal and Gribbell Islands along the rainforest coast of British Columbia. There are about 400 Spirit Bears that live in the world, as a result they are endangered people are hunting them because there fur is very warm and they do not have to hibernate because of that. There are a lot of black bears that live there. Did you know that a spirit bears are really black bears!
Wolves were once the most widely distributed mammal on the planet. With their exceptional ability to adapt, wolves occupied almost every habitat except tropical jungles. But with the arrival of humans, wolves numbers diminished. Systematic eradication programs were aimed at top predators; this, along with over-hunting of prey populations and habitat loss due to population encroachment, wolves were eliminated from most of the contiguous United States by the 1940s. In 1973 wolves were finally put under the protection by the Endangered Species Act, and just recently wolf populations are increasing due to wolf recovery and reintroduction projects.
Until now, there is not a certain answer to how many grizzly bears are left in British Columbia. With approximation ranging from as low as 6,000 by individual biologists to as high as 15,000 by the B.C government, grizzly bear populations are therefore controversial. The reason why official estimates cannot be trusted is that the method used is suspicious since the government only applies a predictive model based on ground surveys conducted in only a limited number of areas. One of the independent scientists, Kyle Artelle, suggests that “more bears were being killed than government quotas allowed.” (thenarwhal) Serious situations, such as extinction, could occur on this species if trophy hunt in addition to other dire scenarios such as declining stocks of salmon along coasts and danger of road and railway accidents proceeds. Even though it is nearly impossible to eliminate all harmful causes of the depopulation for grizzly bear, the prohibition of trophy hunt can be easily taken into action to mitigate the negative trend. Additionally, grizzly bears are being an integral part of the ecosystem where they live. In case the grizzly bears die out, the ecosystem will become chaos. (pacificwild) For example, the speed of seed dispersal of many plants and berries will be reduced, the ocean-derived nutrients will cease to be transferred into inland to make
Black bears in Alaska range from sea level to the wooded forest. Where they live depends on what time of the year it is. Most black bears are not found on islands in the Gulf of Alaska, but some are found in the southeast near those islands except for Admiralty, Baranof, Chichagof, and Kruzof. They are not on these islands because most are inhabited by brown bears and most bears like to keep to themselves. You hear more about bears that live in the forest then the ones that live by the sea. The habitat of a black bear that lives in the forest is normally wooded areas that has thick vegetation.
Everyone knows what an bear is, but soon you will know about the American black bear. The black bear is one of the smallest of the other bear species. It’s fur , which is long and shaggy, is black and it has brown markings. Also can have cinnamon or blond “stains”. The black bear has approximately 42 teeth, and razor claws. It wouldn’t be fun to encounter one!

“If you talk to the animals, they will talk to you, and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys.” This was said by Chief Dan George and is common with many wild animals here in North America; one animal in particular, the bear. There are three different types of bears in North America: brown (or grizzly), polar, and black. The most common in the Northern Virginia area are black bears (Palmer & Lickley, 2001).
